After going to a theme park and my phone not lasting I knew I needed a solution. Ive seen FuelRods at airports and theme parks. After researching how the trade in works and some places its free I purchased a set for my husband and I to use. Ive used it for traveling so my phone could charge while flying on a plane. I was super impressed on how well it worked, how fast my phone charged and how easy it is to recharge. It lives in my purse now. I would recommend this to other theme park goers.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 29, 2025FuelRod was a game-changer on my theme park trip. It kept my phone charged all day, and the free, unlimited swaps at kiosks were super convenient. Small, lightweight, and reliable — a must-have for travel!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 2, 2025Perfect for travel to keep in a small purse give you a full charge probably 1 time comes with adapters. Durable last a few years. Bought my first ones at Disney world in a vending machine.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 10, 2025I found one of the battery packs didn't charge my phone well. Something about the cord and trying to get it to charge it wasn't having it. The other was fine. Didn't get a full charge on it or anything but it worked and got me about 30% on my Pixel 6 pro. I play a lot of location based games so my battery drains really fast, but it got me enough to survive
- Reviewed in the United States on July 5, 2025Very useful and convenient! Bought them for our Disney trip and we were able to swap for no additional cost at the kiosk. Our phones were charged the whole time
- Reviewed in the United States on January 27, 2025These are very handy when traveling especially flying most airports have exchange sites where they can be switched out for a fresh rod no more looking for an ouhh th let to charge up your device also if you have an older device it is upgraded to the newer model when you exchange it price is a bit higher than most auxiliary charge sources but you are paying for convenience which can be very important when traveling
- Reviewed in the United States on July 3, 2025Bought these for our Disney trip. Worked great to exchange them in the park. Small convenient design.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 17, 2022Having just made a trip to Disney World, I had seen some things about the Fuel Rods, and more generally about needing to have a backup battery for my phone. So, when they were on sale for about a third off the retail price, I bought a 2-pack to try them. (You can never have too many backup batteries.)
For my trip I had an Anker 10,400 mAh battery in my backpack with a charging cable running to an outside pocket. Over 5 days, I took more than 700 photos, and used the Disney app to book rides and meals. Almost no texting or phone calls. It was a vacation after all. Social media posting is not my thing, but I suspect that would have used a lot more power (and wasted time).
But I never had to recharge during the day. My 4-month old Pixel 6 Pro has a 5,000 mAh battery. Of course, if I had used the phone more and run the battery down I could plug it into my backup battery. (I always try to recharge when I get down to 15-20%.) And many smaller or older phones have much smaller batteries that would not make it through the day.
So, would the Fuel Rods have been useful to me? First, they have a max capacity of 2,600 mAh. So, In theory, the two of them would charge my 5,000 mAh phone battery. Not really. When I got the batteries, I made sure they were fully charged (they were not when delivered). When my phone was down to 20%, I plugged in one of the Fuel Rods. In about 1.5 hours, the phone went from 20% to 52% before the Fuel Rod ran out of power. I then plugged in the second Fuel Rod. After about 1.5 hours, my phone had reached 85% when the Fuel Rod was fully discharged.
Now 85% capacity is good, Even 50% is okay. It can get you by for a while - IF you are not constantly using the phone while charging. Phones with smaller capacities will get a higher percentage of charge simply because they are smaller. But they will not last as long either, requiring more frequent charging.
It took about 3 hours to recharge each Fuel Rod to full capacity.
Some would say that you can just swap out the discharged batteries for new ones at a kiosk at Disney World. From what I have read, it's not that simple any more. In a pinch, I would not want to be trying to find a kiosk to get a battery that may be charged, and may cost me at least a few dollars to exchange it.
My Anker backup battery is slightly heavier (3 ounces) than the 2 Fuel Rods, but it is essentially the same size as the 2 Fuel Rods. In their plastic cases, the Fuel Rods are actually slightly larger than the Anker battery. AND, the Anker has about twice the capacity.
In short, I believe other backup batteries, such as my Anker, are a better overall solution to being able to recharge your phone in an emergency.
I will say the case with the Apple Lightning cable and a USB-C tip that fits over the USB-micro tip is very convenient.

Wasn’t able to get these in time for a trip I was taking but the value was much better than when I got to the states and had to buy.

3.0 out of 5 stars Don’t hold much power
These rods were purchased for a trip to Disney, as we expected to be using our phones quite a bit while at the parks. They were easy to exchange and did serve that purpose well. However, since returning home I have noticed that there is not much power in them. Even when fully charged, the units only offer enough power to charge my phone to 30%. So while they would be good in a pinch, don’t expect them to provide a full charge to your device. I do like the portability and the fact that they came with adapters for various connections.
