This is my early impression of the Heomaito HMT4300iD Inverter Generator. I picked this generator over its near cousins from other vendors.
It arrived well-packed. Good thing, too. It was delivered upside down. Whoever put the shipping stickers on it put them on the bottom of the box. Unpacking was easy.
Prepping for break-in and testing was a little time-consuming. My hands are Lg/XLg, but my fingers are normal length. My hand barely fit in the opening to check the spark plug. When I checked the air filter, I could barely get my fingers in to spring the clip on the cover. Good thing I checked, because the filter was bone dry. After filling the motor's crankcase, I had to add a few drops of motor oil to it. Why not supply the unit with a magnetic dipstick as a factory part?
Starting took more than the 3 pulls the instructions said for using propane, and that was with bleeding the feed line all the way to the input connection on the generator. For a 1st start, I guess 7 pulls is OK. I also like the pull cord coming from the top. It makes it much easier to pull.
The instruction manual is good, but could use some improvements. The small drawings in the manual don't show the service panel side where the air filter and oil drain are located very well. It makes no mention of checking or oiling the air filter before the 1st use. The air filter cover has a spring tab that needs to be lifted in order for the cover to be lowered to gain access to the filter element. I ended up resorting to a flat-head screwdriver because I couldn't get my fingers in to move the tab. There are 2 clear tubes that run across the air filter housing. The manual mentions leaving the fuel valve open to drain the gasoline tank, but it doesn't say where it drains. One tube comes from the bottom of the carburetor to drain the bowl. I can only guess that the other is the gas tank drain. The instructions show a screw valve to drain the carburetor bowl, but my unit has what appears to be a spring-loaded plunger valve. Again, it's a tight fit for my fingers, so I am not exactly sure what it is. I should mention that the internal propane feed lines run directly across this area.
A large color photo of the service side with the cover off and a couple of color close-ups with arrows and labels showing the components would be helpful, at the cost of an extra sheet of paper, equal to 4 pages.
One important note: This generator has a single 120v 20A L5-20R receptacle. 2 would have been nice for running lighter loads like TVs, computers, routers, telephone chargers, etc., but I'm pretty sure I know why it only comes with one. Watts = Amps x Volts, and somebody might try to connect 2, large, full-wattage loads to the generator and overload it. Get a cord with the L5-30R connector on one end and regular 120v receptacles on the other. As long as your total load doesn't exceed the generator's capacity, you're good to go.
