Emmy Award winning interior designer Kerry Joyce showcases eight of his diverse projects in a beautifully produced and large format book.  Quietly poetic text and gorgeous photography illustrate his mantra of creating well-being and tranquility  - The Intangible.   Foreword by Whitney Robinson, editor in chief of Elle Décor.Kerry Joyce is known for the refined elegance and quiet classicism that unite his varied houses and interiors, as well as his collections of textiles, furniture, and rugs. His debut book spans a fascinating career, celebrating a unique, warm design sense that seeks always to turn houses into homes - to achieve the Intangible through the creation of tranquility and balance. The book showcases homes in a surprising range of styles, from modern to traditional, urban to rustic, period restorations to entirely newly imagined houses that feel as though they are just as authentic. In addition, a charming introduction describes Joyce's unusual path to becoming a designer, with thoughtful essays on each part of his work, from houses to interiors to his products. A special view into the creative process of an influential and multi-talented designer.
Joyce's work has been featured in Architectural Digest, Elle Decor, House Beautiful, Milieu, Traditional Home, WSJ Magazine, World of Interiors, and Veranda, amongst others. Editorial Reviews

Review

"A brilliant must have tome!" - Whitney Robinson, Editor in Chief, Elle Decor."The Intangible is overwhelmingly beautiful and pleasurable - A masterful work. His vibe, his talent is absolutely POURED into it - every page just beams! The photography is sublime and when paired with Joyce's stories (and his voice) and the textiles, it's personal and thorough; really impressive. Books like this are hard to do."
 - Sophie Donelson, Editor in Chief, House Beautiful

"Upon reading Kerry Joyce's new book, The Intangible, he makes the convincing point that his palette of materials and colors results in something that might be called the intangible, a sense of tranquility and balance in rooms that is discernible but not tactile, experienced but not visible. In this compelling book, which reads in part like an autobiography, the reader comes away knowing how he designs, what he thinks about design, and why his loyal clients continue to commission him." -
Pamela Pierce, Editor in Chief, Milieu

"His interiors, unsurprisingly, boast the commensurate level of cool. Witness the perfect seafoam green bathroom in Malibu whose petite architectural shelves are covered in an array of starfish and shells (think sophisticated, not sweet); a wood paneled library in Santa Monica whose arched windows frame banana palms; and an all-white mod pad in Manhattan. And while he works in disparate styles, the mood remains minimal yet lush, beautiful yet practical. The fact that he has such a diverse range is as disarming as his impish smile. As you devour the contents of this beautiful book in your hands, one thing will become clear: while for many others design is about a signature look, for Joyce, it's a signature feel, one that puts the client first." -
Whitney Robinson, Editor in Chief, Elle Décor

"The beauty of Kerry's interiors are indeed
Intangible. In this book, he articulates a process that is often indescribable by a designer - his innate ability to design homes that are viscerally complete. To read this book is to understand how he creates tension and restraint, energy and calmness, intellect and soul."
Jill Waage, Editor in Chief, Traditional Home

"Kerry Joyce is one of the world's most subtle and sophisticated designers. Until now, however, much of his best work has remained unpublished due to his clients' wishes for privacy. So it was with great excitement that I opened Joyce's new book,
The Intangible, which collects some of his most notable - and heretofore unseen - projects in one beautifully produced edition. The book is a marvelous journey through the different aesthetic themes that Joyce has mastered during his distinguished career. Full of delights and surprises, The Intangible assures Kerry Joyce's place among the great designers of today."
- Michael Wollaeger, Editor in Chief, DesignLA

From the Back Cover

"I always want to design homes that feel good to be in, where all the pieces are in balance and a sense of tranquility prevails. That's the most special thing I can create. That's the Intangible." - Kerry Joyce

Gorgeous book by a brilliant design master.. The level of love and attention to detail in the craft of this book is sublime. I have dozens of design books in my studio and this sophisticated and textural tome is simply the most well designed - Which is completely expected of course knowing that Kerry Joyce himself poured and sweat-fretted over every inch. The feel of its cover, the weight and quality of its pages, the choice of presented projects, the perfectly lit photographs are just wonderful as you’d expect- but what I found most surprising is Kerry’s voice and intimacy in the written pages.. The nuanced style that we see in his work is charmingly reflected in his writing. Kerry does a remarkable job describing his process and thoughts in an almost vulnerable way. We don’t often read design books, skimming the bold type at most, yet I found myself immersed.
To view and judge a room’s design is to understand the sum of the many choices the designer toiled over to create it. The same for this sexy book: it’s a perfect companion to the perfection of this artist’s work. Kerry doesn’t thrust his ego into the spaces he creates, he lets the rooms act as a set for the families to live their lives in.. This book acts as a set for Kerry’s work and it’s exciting to have in my collection propped next to my velvet settee.

A stunning collection from one of Americas master designers. The images are breathtaking and capture the elegance , warmth, and timeless glamour of his work. But it is the text in his own frank and open voice that makes this book so much more than your typical interior design coffee table book. Joyce offers a masterclass in good design to anyone who cares to read it. I was blown away.

I have a lot of interior design books, and for some reason I just didn't connect with this book.

The major sections of the book include:
** Beginnings: 30 pages of background on the designer
** Interiors: 2 pages of text outlining basic design principles, and several pages of photos
** Houses: 1 page of text and several exterior photos of homes
** Eight projects: Homes across a variety of styles

Beautifully bound in one of Kerry's very handsome fabrics, "The Intangible" became a design focal point when I placed it on my coffee table. This long awaited tome is so alluring and its size so comfortable to read on my table or cradled on my lap that poring over the beautiful photographs of Kerry's lovely, varied interiors is an ongoing pleasure.!

This is a stunning monograph. Beautiful photos and rather well written text that was a pleasure to read. He works in many styles and although extremely varied truly capture The Intangible. His work is sophisticated, quirky and elegant.

beautiful photography, high quality cover, thisck paper. Gorgeous book. However, I had to return it and the ink had such a strong smell that it pervades the room and was irritating to my eyes. I hope that this can be corrected, as it is a stunning book

As a longtime fan of Kerry Joyce's interiors, this anticipated, first designer monograph does not disappoint! The title, "The Intangible" speaks to Joyce's unique design philosophy of finding tranquility and balance in the rooms he creates, and makes for a pleasurable theme to read about. The oversized scale of the book, richly printed imagery on thick paper, and cloth-bound cover make Joyce's book an objet d'art in its own right...A beautiful book not only to read but to display in your home. It's obvious that this book was produced thoughtfully and with great care and quality in mind. Bravo!
