Product Description
The Scattergories game is the fast-thinking game of categories and words! Roll the die, flip the sand timer, and think of answers to each category on the category list. Players race against the timer as they write down answers such as things in a musical group, a vegetable, a reason to have a party, and items found in a bakery -- each beginning with the letter C. Score points for writing down things no one else did. The more creative the answers, the more points you score. With more than 190 categories and 20 letters on the die, the game is exciting to play over and over again. Scattergories and all related properties are trademarks of Hasbro.

Scattergories Game
The Scattergories game is the fast-thinking game of words and categories. Players roll the letter die, flip the sand timer, and race against the clock to come up with answers to each category on the category list. Score points for writing down answers that no one else did. The more creative the answers, the more points scored!
- Scattergories is a fast-thinking game of categories and words
- Write words no one else does to win points
- 20-sided letter die shakes up the game
- Includes more than 3,500 category combinations
- Ages 12 and up
- For 2-6 players
Ready, Roll, Write
To play the Scattergories game, pick a list from the category cards and roll the 20-sided letter die to determine which letter each answer will begin with. For example, if the die turns up the letter S, players start the timer and as quickly as possible, write down the answers to things listed on the card such as "'hings you plug in', 'items in vending machine', or 'song titles' - each beginning with the letter S. When time is up, players compare answers and each unique answer earns a point. The player with the highest score at the end of each round is the winner!
Thousands of Combinations
One thing that makes the Scattergories game different from other games is the 20-sided die, which provides endless fun for each round. With more than 190 categories and 20 letters on the die, there are more than 3,500 category combinations! So, the Scattergories game is exciting to play over and over again. Players try to make their answers unique and think of things that will be different from everyone else's so that they will earn more points.
Think Fast, Write Fast
The Scattergories game includes a 3-minute sand timer so players have to be creative and clever within that span of time. Roll the letter C? Quickly come up with a musical group, a vegetable, and reasons to have a party. Write down only 1 answer for each category. Which would be a better answer for the vegetable carrot or cauliflower? Choose wisely! Only one-of-a-kind answers score. The game includes 6 individual folders to keep all of the category and answer sheets together, and to deter prying eyes.

I love the game, but the quality of the folders has worsened over the years.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 8, 2020I finally bought one for myself after gifting to several people! It's an awesome game that always brings some form of laughter. If you are like me and have played older versions of this game, the die included in this version doesn't have 26 letters. It excludes q, u, v, x, y and z. This doesn't diminish the fun at all. You can always use one of the online Scattergories die available, if you want to play with those letters.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 9, 2018We love Scattegories and have played it for several years. My daughter wanted to get her Grandmother and also her cousins something for Christmas; something that would allow them to spend more time together so she thought about purchasing a board game that they could play together. This game is great to play as individuals or with teams. We usually play using teams if the children are under second grade (wriiing slows them down). We’ve played with teammates as young as 3 years old. You’d be amazed at some of their spot in answers. The game came quickly and my daughter can’t wait for them to open their gifts.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 31, 2023I really liked this game as it worked my brain and was great for our 7 year old and our 74 year old.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 1, 2019The only reason I gave this game 4 stars instead of 5 is because it is so much different than the version I grew up playing. If you haven't played it in the last 10 years or so, let me tell you the differences. It comes with an hourglass shaped sand timer now instead of the electronic one that buzzes. Also, there are cards that have the lists on them to be dealt out, with nowhere to hold them, instead of the cards that fit into the individual playing folders... Also, there is only one pad of sheets to write on, that have to be split between the 6 player folders, instead of each folder having its own pad. A bonus is there are 16 lists now instead of the 12 that the old style used to have. The game does not come with the little pencils that it used to contain, either. It seems to me that the reduction of sheets, change in the timer, and lack of writing utensils probably is what makes it less costly than it used to be. The concept is still the same, and the game is still quite enjoyable. However, if you're a creature of habit like me, and a staunch fan of the old style Scattergories game, just know that the contents of this game are different. A lot different. Still a good value for the price. Still a fun game.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 6, 2020I bought this to play with my wife and 11 year old daughter. I loved this game as a kid, and neither of them had played it. They couldn't put it down the first night and enjoy a few rounds after dinner.
Very glad I bought this. It's very simple and quick, unlike some other games. It's a great way to avoid electronics and have some family fun.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 19, 2022We used to play this game when I was a kid, but a few decades later, the quality of the folders has gotten way worse. I can’t even bend them in half without them breaking, and sliding the answer sheets into the holder section causes the folder to break in THAT spot as well. I love playing this game so much, and the quality of all the other components is great, but the folders are complete junk. They used to be very rugged, but not now.
