I have had the battery tester for a few days now and have used several times I find it very functional, seems very well made. Great value for your money. Love the fact that you can test in or out of the vehicle, also that you can test 12 and 24volt systems. Has the capability to test cranking and charging systems. Also have the option to be able to print which can be very beneficial. There is an option to do a voltage waveform which is great as you can see how it’s charging as rpm’s change. The cables on it seem like they are very durable and it says the are no spark and that seems correct. You have the capability to test cca and ca which is nice, not to mention it is very simply to use and navigate. Overall I definitely would recommend this battery tester to a DIY person or a mechanic as it is accurate I have tested it against the old fashion load tester and it is within 1/2 volt.

I’ve been working on cars for years and always wanted my own battery tester. With winter coming, I decided to grab the VDIAGTOOL BT500 to check my own car batteries. Turns out both were testing low, so I replaced them before they could leave me stranded in the cold. This little tester saved me from what could’ve been a huge headache.
I’ve had the chance to directly compare it to some other testers we have in my shop: an OEM battery tester made by Midtronics, the Ancel AD410, and the Cornwell ESC718. The BT500 reads the same as the Midtronics, but it’s four times smaller, much faster and couple hundreds cheaper. The Ancel and Cornwell UIs are a mess to navigate, and their readings were slightly off compared to the Midtronics and BT500. The Cornwell is also ridiculously overpriced for something so basic, even the Schumacher branded costs more than the BT500.

I wanted a tester that can do all the batteries and can test alternators and starters, and this one works great. So much quicker than this big brick I need to use for my warranty work...
I picked this one especially because of the interface with a D-pad, enter, and return button—it saves so much hassle! The clamps on the BT500 are surprisingly high-quality, with solid soldering.
I love that it uses USB-C for updates and printing, I don't think others do that.

Edit: changed rating from 1 star to 3 because the seller reached out to me to offer refund, and made sure they took care of the problem very quickly. So seller excellent, product still bad.
Total garbage, tested against the $600 tester we use in the shop and it was off by 200CCA. If not for the $20 tester I got from Walmart being within 10CCA accuracy of the tester at work I wouldn't have been surprised it was off, but if the cheaper one can be that accurate there's no excuse this should be off by as much as it is, embarrassingly inaccurate. the device itself, very cheap. I would expect this quality in the $20-30 range, not in the full price over $50 category. It's really light and the plastic feels thin, the screen is terrible in dark lighting, it's very bright and the cheap display with the bright colors is almost disorienting to look at the menu for more than a few seconds. It has a USB-C jack on the bottom for what I don't know, I thought it had a battery but it powers off as soon as unplugged making it pointless if it's powered when connected to a battery. Probably going to get one from a brand I trust, figured I'd take a chance with this one. Would not recommend.

I used this tool on several batteries throughout a couple of weeks. I only got to use it on 12V battteries, but I have no doubt the results would have been the same on 6V or 24V systems had I had the opportunity to work on them.
The keystrokes were minimal to get the test rolling. I really liked how the CCA value could be moved in larger increments as well as smaller steps. My $1200 brand name tool makes me go in 5 amp steps. A pain when going from one end of the scale to the other.
The results were quick to display, faster than my expensive tool and more information was displayed about battery condition on this BT500.
I used it on the charging and starting modes as well and found it equally easy to use and results were in line with my other tool for reference.
I am very happy with this meter and especially so when I consider the cost of this tool vs the one I have been using at work. If you need a battery, alternator and starter test tool, I think you will be happy with this one.

I used this tool on several batteries throughout a couple of weeks. I only got to use it on 12V battteries, but I have no doubt the results would have been the same on 6V or 24V systems had I had the opportunity to work on them.
The keystrokes were minimal to get the test rolling. I really liked how the CCA value could be moved in larger increments as well as smaller steps. My $1200 brand name tool makes me go in 5 amp steps. A pain when going from one end of the scale to the other.
The results were quick to display, faster than my expensive tool and more information was displayed about battery condition on this BT500.
I used it on the charging and starting modes as well and found it equally easy to use and results were in line with my other tool for reference.
I am very happy with this meter and especially so when I consider the cost of this tool vs the one I have been using at work. If you need a battery, alternator and starter test tool, I think you will be happy with this one.

Accurately tested several batteries that were known to be good or bad. The unit is powered from the battery being tested so there are no batteries within the unit to replace or fail. The charging and starting tests provided useful information and the level of detailed battery performance info was helpful. This is a good tool to have prior to the winter season to identify a weak battery before it fails completely.
