Editorial Reviews

Review

A New York Times bestselling series!

Praise for Rise of the Earth Dragon (Dragon Masters #1):

"In this first of the Dragon Masters series, vocabularly is accessible; sentences, paragraphs, and chapters are short; and dialogue moves the story along rapidly. Black-and-white sketch-type drawings add depth to the story and feelings to the characters (both children and dragons). Emergent readers will find happy success here." -- Booklist

"The first of a new series of early chapter books, this entry is sure to attract fans. Brief chapters, large print, lots of action, attractive illustrations in every spread including a maplike panorama, an enviable protagonist -- who wouldn't want to be a Dragon Master? -- all combine to make an entertaining read. With plenty left to be resolved, the next entry will be eagerly sought after." - Kirkus Reviews

"Each page features wonderfully detailed pencil illustrations which help to support the text." -- Library Media Connection

Praise for BRANCHES books:

"These books should be considered for larger libraries wanting to enhance their easy-reader collections." -- School Library Journal

"A nice stepping stone to more advanced chapter books." -- Booklist

Saved me from reading Captain Underpants for the 100th time!
I’m a mom of four, and let’s just say I was desperate for something new after what felt like a lifetime of Captain Underpants. Dragon Masters was a total win! The stories are exciting, the chapters are short (perfect for bedtime), and my kids love that each dragon has its own special powers. I grabbed this series as an Easter basket gift and it a total hit with my 6 and 8 year old-we just finished the last book! Highly recommend — my kids love it, and I actually enjoy reading it too!

My husband picked up the first Dragon Master book on a whim at our local public library, and from that first reading, my daughter has been hooked on the series...for over a year! We’ve read almost every book in the series at this point, and she’s eagerly awaiting the release of future books.

    Things to love:
    - Dragons, of course, in varying shapes, sizes, colors & talents
    - Diverse cast of kids/characters from a variety of (fictional) countries/cultures
    - Fun to read (and act) out loud (although we had to tone down our interpretation of Maldred a little bit ) ^_^
    - Has themes of friendship, teamwork, and wanting to make the world a better place
    - While (so far) each book has been formulaic with a new Dragon Master/dragon introduced with each book, there are story arcs that span several books (builds anticipation and interest, encourages reading comprehension and paying attention)

After he read the first book in class, he begged me to get him the next in the series so he could find out what happens next. My son could read, it was just that nothing really motivated him enough to WANT to read until he found these books about the different dragons. Cut to the end of summer - he’s has read nearly 45-50 books and devoured the first 18 in this series between others. Sometimes 2 a day. This super active, “I need you to pay attention to me” kind of kid now reads when he’s waiting, for quiet time, in bed, in the car, at coffee shops while I’m reading, etc… it’s been a huge transformation. I believe these books were interesting and gave him the confidence to read. He started with magic treehouse books and while interesting, the smaller font and many pages seemed daunting to finish so, this was easy to read, has occasional pictures to help build the imagination, and a fun story to keep things interesting. Now he reads just about anything he has laying around.

Please note: while these books have wizards in them, it wasn’t a magical spell that made my kid fall in love with reading. I read and he see me hold books - not my phone/kindle. I made going to the book store a special thing for him after he finished reading 2 books, we got more. It was worth the “inconveniences“ to me.

My 7 year old son loves reading these books. They start at grade 1 reading level and go to grade 3 reading level. My son loves the stories, and he's so excited to tell me all about what happened, like how potions were made, or magic spells, or the traits of the dragons. I'm happy I made this purchase!
