About the Author

Alice Schertle is a poet and author of many well-loved books for children, including the beloved #1 New York Times bestselling Little Blue Truck series, Very Hairy Bear, Button Up!, and All You Need for a Snowman. She lives in Plainfield, Massachusetts.



Jill McElmurry was the illustrator of many picture books, including her own Mad About Plaid, When Otis Courted Mama by Kathi Appelt and the best-selling Little Blue Truck series, written by Alice Schertle. She happily divided her time between the wide landscape of New Mexico and a green island in Minnesota. Jill passed away in August 2017.

    The first books I remember loving are "Harold and the Purple Crayon" by Crockett Johnson and "Animal Fair" by Alice and Martin Provensen. I also loved "Ferdinand" by Munro Leaf and Robert Lawson and "What Do You Say, Dear?" by Sesyle Joslin and Maurice Sendak. Later on I loved "Homer Price and the Donut Machine", "Alice in Wonderland", "Grimm's Fairy Tales", and one about bread dough that keeps rising and rising, I wish I could remember the name of it.

    I've lived in big towns and small towns, in mountains and valleys, beside the ocean and across the ocean, and now I live in Taos, New Mexico in a house with big windows that look out on mountains and sagebrush. My husband, our dog, Harry, and I take a lot of long walks in the desert.We spend the Summer in a tiny cabin on a tiny island in a big lake in northern Minnesota. We've named the island Good Dog Island in honor of all the good dogs we've known.

Faulty book amd really disappointing!!
I'm extremely disappointed to receive this faulty book, I hate sending things back and now I'm worried that it won't be here intoned for Christmas if I do have to send it back to get a replacement. My little boy loves cars and I was so excited upon ordering this book so you can only imagine my disappointment. Does nobody check these items before sending them? I will be contacting the seller in the hopes they can just send me a book that's not faulty. Otherwise if you don't get a faulty one, it's a lovely book.

    If you like The Little blue Truck, you will not be disappointed with this follow-on book. It is well written story about a country truck, first time driving into the big city. Of course all the city cars and trucks are always in a rush and have no patience to find an orderly way to let cars pass to avoid major traffic jams. The Little Blue Truck doesn't let them intimidate them and he keeps his cool as well as his manners. He goes on to teach the big city folks that "one at time is the way to go". By setting a good example, he convinces the mayor and his fellow vehicles to change their ways. My boys 2 and 4 love this book and I would highly recommend it.

    I am compelled to leave probably my first review on Amazon, because this book deserves it. This whole blue truck series is my little 20 month's favorite. There are little lessons to learn from each stories and the words rhyme well and is great for toddlers to learn speaking as they are encouraged to complete the sentences. The illustrations are also beautiful, with many little hidden details and recurring themes across the series.

    For those who do not know, there is even a downloadable audio book with Alice reading her own book in a very engaging manner. The music soundtrack accompanying the audio book is also very well composed with recurring and appropriate themes and deserves recognition on its own. (The only improvement is that the instrument sounds VST used could be a little more real, but I'm being picky as we are a family of musicians).

    All in all, we own a huge cupboard of hand-me-downs + new books (probably about 100 books by now), and this blue truck series is one of the best so far. Thank you Alice Schertle. Please write more!
