Maisy is confident and acquainted with the routines of preschool. She clearly has no separation issues…As always, Cousins’s bright color illustrations are simple and appealing.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 28, 2021My two year old was going to preschool/Mother's Morning Out program for two days and we wanted to prep her, so she would know what school was about. This is a great story for new to preschool toddlers! It's simple yet interesting, shows a lot of the day, positive (nobody cries at drop-off, pick-up), and colorful. Like how they have a potty and wash hands page to remind little ones there are potties at school to use. Would like a Mom picks up Maisy at the end, but we just add that part as it comforts her. We also have the Daniel Tiger book about school (there are two, one is good the other not so read reviews!) Glad we got this Maisy book!

- Reviewed in the United States on April 30, 2014I bought a whole bunch of recommended books to prepare my 2 year old for "school.". This is one of my favorites.
I think this is intended more for a 3-4 year old, but it's still is helpful for a younger (2) crowd that might be starting nursery school as well.
The activities described in the book are well chosen, described, and segregated (by page).
Eg, maisy arrives and sees her friends and her teacher, mr. peacock (my son now LOVES peacocks because of this book), on one page (I add "bye mom, see you later!").
They then paint (one page), go outside (one page), eat (one page), do stories (one page), nap (one page), go outside (one page) and leave (they say goodbye to mr. peacock and friends (and I add "hi mom!" one page). Each activity on a different page, and all relevant for a 2-5 year old set.
My kid has noticed different things as we've continued to read it (eg, at first, "Maisy paint", then a few months later "Maisy is messy!").
- Reviewed in the United States on November 19, 2016This is my daughter's second Maisy book. Maisy Plays Soccer really helped her after her first soccer lesson didn't go so great. So as we were preparing for preschool at 3 1/2 years old, I researched a lot of "first day of school" books. I settled on this book and another book (Daniel Tiger Goes to School) because the stories were so positive. Prior to starting preschool, my daughter had been at home and wasn't used to being without me or my husband; she also didn't really like being around a lot of kids (one reason the first soccer lesson didn't go so well). So we were really worried about how she'd do at preschool. I started reading this book to her over the summer before school started. As I mentioned, the story is really positive since it focuses on the fun things kids do at school. It helped give her an idea of how a typical day at school would be but without harping on the scary parts, i.e., it doesn't talk about separation anxiety or being left at school without your parents. I truly believe this book had a positive impact on my daughter. Her first day of preschool went so well I couldn't believe it!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 10, 2019This is absolutely the number one perfect book for preparing a very attached toddler for going to school. It keeps everything positive and happy. Doesn’t give any ideas about crying or be scared. It also includes nap time which was very important for us since my son is still breastfeeding to go to sleep and has never slept anywhere but in our home. It really helped us a lot and he loved it. He would come home from school the furst week or so of school and ask me to read it to him over and over and over again. I also bought another book just in case this one wasn’t so great but this Maisy book was the best one by far.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 29, 2017I was looking for a book to introduce my 2.5 year old to pre-school. She has been home with granny so far. She loves this book. It is very simple and leads the child through a typical day at pre-school. When we took her to the school, she already knew the cubbies where she would hang her coat, the drawing easel. She knew what circle time was and enjoyed her snack time.
The book does not talk about separation or tell the child familiar that the parent will come back. By leaving it out, I think it keeps a more upbeat mood. And I get to convey the idea myself in a way that is appropriate for my child.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 7, 2021Great story that just focuses on the friends and activities involved with preschool. No fears of missing parents, not being liked by others, etc so if your kid is excited for school, this book won’t ruin that or introduce things to be scared of. My kid saw Maisy painting and got so excited to paint at school. She has since painted every day (sometimes twice a day per her request!) since starting school. Thanks for making a big transition - having spent more than half her life in quarantine because of Covid and now going to preschool - so much easier.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 15, 2022This book is perfect for the beginning of preschool. It is relatable to kiddos just beginning their formal education. Quick read for short attention spans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Intro
Bought this for my 4 year old grandson who’s about to start kinder. I’m sure it helped to give him an idea of what to expect, apart from one page that shows kids taking a nap at kinder/preschool. However, that was easily explained. He loves and has many Maisy and friends books and enjoyed the large, colourful illustrations. Packaged well and arrived quickly. Thanks

5.0 out of 5 stars A great book for kids getting ready for daycare or preschool
A great book for kids getting ready for daycare or preschool. It focuses on the routine and the activities rather than the whole "missing mom" thing that most books about preschool do. It really helped my son settle in.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for starting pre-school
This is a fantastic book to get your little one excited (rather than nervous) about beginning pre-school. It goes through all the little activities they do at pre-school and is very sweet.
