This birdbath is made from a heavy duty hard plastic material so I expect it to last a long time since it hopefully won't split if frozen. We put a heater inside to help prevent that. It comes with coated chains for hanging but I have it sitting on a stump. The birds love it and some mornings they are crowded around the entire rim getting their drinks or taking a bath. They seem to appreciate the holes in the rim for perching. It holds about a gallon of water and because so many birds use it we have to fill it twice a day. Our summers are hot, so the plastic won't absorb the heat and burn bird toes like a metal bird bath would.

I believe they prefer this one to the larger birdbath that's standing in the yard. They're adorable, very small birds, and a typical birdbath is much deeper than this one.
