Solid, well made, versatile
The website describes this style as depression era glass. They're heavy, almost chunky, and the online photo when enlarged shows three faintly deeper seams in the ridged area - center out to the edge and around to the bottom - that suggest a mass produced weighty medium grade candle holder. (The seams are barely noticeable.) The glass is colored throughout rather than tinted at the surface. It's a medium dark red color and semitransparent. When tested in boiling water, no tint leached out. The center bottom is clear glass. The candle openings are plenty wide for using a taper or votive candle, making them versatile. (If the taper wobbles, drip a few drops of melted wax into the whole and hold it to stabilize it.) The ridges reflect room light and when combined with the red color and candlelight give a sense of warmth. They're available in sets of 6, 12, and 18 and in red, brown, gray, clear and purple colors. Prices vary depending on count and color. An individual holder in red is $3.75. Although it seems overpriced compared to similar sets (4 stars), if you're looking for a solid/durable, well made set in red, this is the set for you.
