- Reviewed in the United States on April 9, 2024Color: Mercury Blue/Dark Silver MetallicSize: 11.5Verified PurchaseFirst off, I'm a shoe nerd. I admit it. Growing up my Dad would buy us only 𝙏𝙃𝙀 cheapest shoes he could find. They were so bad that we'd wear them out in a couple of months and I should be honest, I am not hard on my shoes, either (my older brother was a different story). Didn't make a difference. My Dad would rather buy us a pair of new shoes for $20 every couple months rather than spend $35 on ONE pair that would last at least a year (if not more). As a result, when I finally got a job and could buy my own, I had quite a collection. A habit I continue to this day.
With that in mind, within the last year I've purchased 2 other pairs of New Balance trail running shoes which were (at that time) the most comfortable pairs of shoes I had ever purchased. Since then I bought a pair of Brooks Ghost Max which replaced those as the most comfortable pair of shoes I had ever owned.
The Fresh Foam X have now replaced (by a slim margin) my Brooks for sheer comfort. I don't really run, but I DO an awful lot of hiking and walking. So strict comfort is pretty important to me. These shoes are simply brilliant in how comfortable they are. The previously mentioned New Balance Trail runners were, for a lack of a better term, had almost too much cushion. I know, how can a shoe have TOO much cushion? Well, those do...at least for me. For instance, I would never wear them for weight training, especially doing the dead lift. The cushion is SO pronounced that I'd be worried they could pull me off balance a little too easily. But then again, they aren't designed for weight lifting, so just keep that in mind.
The Foam X shoes are a perfect balance between great cushion and sheer comfort. It must be hard for companies to achieve that balance without going too far but Kudo's to NB for pulling it off. The soles aren't as durable as the trail runners perhaps, but oh man are they a joy to wear. Again, since I don't run I cannot speak to how stable they'd be at doing any long/short distance running but man am I happy with mine.
Overall 𝙏𝙃𝙀 most comfortable shoes I own (and I own a LOT). I am VERY satisfied with my purchase.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 4, 2025Color: White/Black Metallic/BlackSize: 13Verified PurchaseLet’s break it down simply: these are Hoka sneakers, but on steroids! They’re stylish, comfortable, athletic, and have a great design. They’re wide and roomy, making them a home run from New Balance..
- Reviewed in the United States on March 19, 2025Color: Black/Coastal Blue/Ginger LemonSize: 11.5Verified PurchaseBought as a cheaper alternative to the Hoka Bondi 8 since they’ve moved on to an even uglier V9 for even more money -grrr! So this will be a comparative review with my opinions, but I’ve only walked about 15 miles in the New Balance FF Max so far, so longevity cannot be assessed, but initial impression is that these will last 300-500 miles based on the selective placement of rubber, and massive foam exposure.
NB Pros: Lighter, slightly softer foam feeling, narrower toe box, arguably better looking.
NB Cons: greater supination (outward roll), narrower toe box (this one is in the eye of the wearer), the heel doesn’t lock-in as much, these shoes feel wider through the body to me, no pull ring on the heel to assist in putting the shoes on.
Verdict: Would I buy them again? Yeah, they’re super comfortable. Would I if Hoka Bondi happened to be the same price? No, Hoka wins here, and my quest for a cheaper, better shoe continues! Damn.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 4, 2025Color: White/Black Metallic/BlackSize: 12Verified PurchaseThe soles are very thick and soft. Need to get used to height and cushioning when standing still. If you walk a lot, you can tell the difference with these shoes. Your feet will not hurt or hurt much less after long walks or standing. The sizing was comparable to other sports shoes purchased, except the width is a little wider.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 29, 2025Color: Aluminum Grey/Neon Dragonfly/Hot MarigoldSize: 10.5Verified PurchaseGreat shoes! Super soft and comfy but light enough for daily jogs.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 22, 2025Ridiculously comfortable shoe... Helped me get walking again while dealing with Plantar Fascia!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 18, 2025Color: Black/PhantomSize: 11Verified PurchaseAll in all I really like these shoes. They are very comfortable. They have so much padding and are so plush you don't even really feel the ground beneath you. However, they are a little heavy, and take some getting used to. I do slightly prefer my Hoka Bondi 8's over these. My Hokas are not quite as comfortable, but still pretty comfortable, look better and are lighter on my feet. These are really nice though. They are really nice on harder surfaces like blacktop or concrete, as you can't even really feel the surface beneath your feet. Overall, I would recommend these shoes and would likely buy them over again in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Zapatillas de discapacitado.

5.0 out of 5 stars amortiguación extrema

- AdamReviewed in Canada on July 26, 2024
1.0 out of 5 stars Way too soft, and unbalanced
Color: Aluminum Grey/Neon Dragonfly/Hot MarigoldSize: 12Verified PurchaseUnfortunately, I found these shoes to be quite limited in their use. They are specifically designed for running, but even in this context, they have significant drawbacks. The shoes feature a rockered sole, which can be hazardous on uneven surfaces or stairs. This design makes them less versatile and potentially dangerous in certain environments.
When it comes to cushioning, these shoes offer an exceptionally soft and cloud-like feel. While this may sound appealing, it requires your body to adapt to the new sensation, which can be challenging if you switch between these and standard running shoes. The extreme cushioning makes it difficult to maintain consistency in your running form.
I would not recommend these shoes for treadmill use either, as they seem best suited for running tracks. Overall, while they have their merits for specific running conditions, their limitations and safety concerns make them a less than ideal choice for many runners.
