This Busy Board was tested by an 18 month old who loved the lights and pushing the buttons on and off. He especially likes the horn sound which added to his excitement. It seems well made, and perfect size. The unit is turned on/off by inserting the key. If I could add one thing it would be an automatic shut off. I removed 1 star due to the cap on the motion lights was able to be pulled off. He did not pull it off himself, but while testing it's safety with small parts we were able to pull it off. We will glue it on and make sure he is supervised while playing. A fun toy that keeps them busy!

So guys, this busy board is by best bust board I've come across. This will be a Christmas gift for my 1yo for a long car trip, and I was aware of the shrill button. But my husband is good with circuts, and was able to easily disconnect the speaker. This can be done by easily popping open the back with the provided screwdriver and disconnecting the wire indicated in my first picture. I also think the button still works well in this board because it springs back; which is nice if the speaker is connested because the shrill noise won't just stay on until the batteries die, but it's still an interesting fine motor exercise on the board.
The key is the master switch and turns on the whole board, so depending on the kids age, some parental help is required. Also, the key can be inserted into the lock in either orientation, but only the correct one will turn on the board.
This board is generally lightweight, making it easy for a 1yo to handle, I got this board especially for the loop at the top of the device which can be attached to a car seat with a minder for long trips.
The board uses a variety of grasping, pincer and pushing fine motor skills, and none of the lights strobe or blink.
The insertion light is usually the fail point on our other light boards, so I will be interested too see how the wire holds up. It should be noted the lights are SUPER bright, so this will not be a toy you want littles to play with at night for how stimulating it is.
The plastic is smooth and well finished with no odd smells, the buttons and switched operate smoothly with satisfying *clicks*, and it's a manageable size to keep in a diaper bag for quick entertainment on the go.
Overall, this board is an excellent value and will undoubtedly grab the attention of boys and girls alike. I'll probably buy another for my sister's kiddo!

As another mentioned...unplug the sound part of the toy if you do not like it. Neither of us parents liked it so we unplugged it. This board is replacing a wood one we have that broke. Construction is seems pretty sturdy although mostly plastic. A little bit harder for my 19 year old to turn on and play with but my 4 year old can fully enjoy the toy.
Edit: I ended up reconnecting the little sound switch again. Cut a small piece of black electrical tape and put it over the speaker. This reduced the sound dramatically so that it's not ear piercing. Kids are still playing with this toy quite a bit over a week later.
