About the authors
Stan and Jan Berenstain were already successful cartoonists for magazines and adult humor books when they began writing children's books. The first story starring the bear family, The Big Honey Hunt, appeared in 1962. Since then, more than 370 Berenstain Bears books have been published, and more than 300 million copies have been sold. What began as an idea sparked by their young sons' love of reading has become over the years arguably the best-selling children's book series ever.
Since their inception, the Berenstain Bears stories have expanded to include picture books, beginning readers, and chapter books--even a hit TV show on PBS. Writing and illustrating the books has become a Berenstain family affair. Mike joined with his parents as a creative team in the late 1980s. The Bear family has expanded over the years as well. Sister Bear arrived in 1974, and baby Honey joined the family in 2000.
Though Stan died in 2005 and Jan in 2012, Mike continues to create the delightful Bear adventures from his studio in Pennsylvania.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 25, 2023One of the pages in the book is defective, looks like it was cut and marked for the stitches in the wrong place. I need this book for a preschool graduation gift in 3 days. Hope I can get a replacement copy before then. Ironically, the packaging for these 2 small books was huge. Update; I was able to get a replacement copy very quickly. I have it in time for todays event. I am changing my rating.. Thank you. It's a cute going to kindergarten story.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 11, 2013This story does a good job of covering event knowledge from end of summer to first days of school. The story holds my toddler's attention while reading word for word. Overall it is a good story. My goal is to introduce and prepare my toddler for the cultural shift that is soon to take place.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 7, 2013I read this to my little boy before the first day of preschool. We read several books about starting school because he was a little nervous about starting school. Of all the books we read about starting school, The Berenstain Bears Go to School was his favorite. My son just loves the Berenstain Bears. I love them too because they teach children valuable life lessons. The Berestain Bear Books teach children how to grow-up and be respectful, responsible adults. Obviously parenting is a difficult, yet rewarding task. A book won't solely do the job of ensuring your child grows-up right, but it's safe to say that The Berenstain Bear Books may very well indeed help place them on the right track.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 22, 2021This is a must have for the kids in my family. My mom bought it for me in kindergarten and read it to me the night before back to school day. She kept the tradition going a couple years after that. She was and still is so sweet. I kept the tradition going for my children and will do it for my future grandchildren. This classic book never goes out of style. Timeless classic. Kids love Berenstain Bears!

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice book for Toddler/ Preschooler
My 3 year old daughter loves this book. I read it to her weeks before her first day in nursery. Her first day at nursery went pretty well. She did not cry at all and even addressed the nursery staff as “Ms Honeybear” based on one of the characters of this story.
