Having a crock pot is like having a personal chef to cook for you!
I love how the stainless steel reflects the colors of my red kitchen towel. The actual crock pot is much glossier than the stock photos they have up on the website. It is low enough that it can fit under a shelf, for those who have shelves above their countertops for condiments, for example. I put my chicken in on the bottom of the pot, drizzled a little grape seed oil over it, added a half cup of water, to start the cooking process; them proceeded to add small potatoes, whole, with skins scrubbed, washed and diced celery and carrots, diced to at minimum 3 inches long (any smaller and they might become mush with all the larger veggies, and meat), added a whole onion, peeled and cut in half. Remember, this is rustic cooking at its best for those of us who can’t cook outside in the severe Southwestern heat. I added 5 cloves of thickly sliced (8th of an inch) garlic, for flavor and closed the lid. Already my kitchen is smelling wonderful, with the pot cooking on high for 30 min. Did not want to take a chance on cooking poultry on low heat at first (risk of salmonella with any poultry). Will bump it down to low heat after a couple of hours and adjust my cooking time as needed. Planning on an 8 hour cooking time for this lot. Can’t wait to eat it and will try some more recipes from my Betty Crocker Cookbook which is arriving tomorrow! My only negative is that they advertise a small cookbook within the package, which came sealed in an outer layer of plastic, all the way from China. Great packaging and thanks to the manufacturer for taking such great care so that as a consumer, you know that you are buying a bona fide new product and not a returned product. My only suggestion is that the packaging labeling and the seller’s description are changed to reflect the truth : that there is no cookbook included with a purchase of the 8 quart, oval Crock Pot. Thanks.
