The Scariest Book Ever Hardcover – Picture Book, July 18, 2017
Purchase options and add-ons
Reader beware! This is the scariest book ever! Or so claims its melodramatic ghost narrator. Go ahead and turn the page, but don't expect him to come with you. Anything might pop out of that black hole in the middle of the forest! What do you mean, it's just a bunny? Well, it's probably a bunny with big fangs! Despite the ghost's fear-mongering, none of the animal characters seem very scary at all.... What's up with that?
Many delights—such as surprises after the page turns, a wildly over-the-top narrator, and perfect punch lines for readers to anticipate—make this book a scream for both kids and parents.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 18, 2019Are you a sarcastic mom who reads to her children in a sarcastic tone because the stories are just so dumb? This book will work for you and your tone actually emphasizes the story and makes the kids giggle. My very visual, very distractible 5 month old girl loves the visuals and my 4 year old boy who is too busy to sit for a whole story actually requests this book as well as Bob Shea’s other work (check out the happiest book ever. Frowny frog is my jam!). I am a pretty gender neutral lady, it have noticed my daughter strong attraction to pink and glitter even with the world of toys at her fingertips. She is blowing my mind. Anyways, fun story, even some laughs from adults if in the right state of mind: great illustrations. It’s fun watching my son recreate my performance to his stuffed animals. Buy it.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 5, 2022This has been one of our go-to Halloween books for the past three years. I first checked it out from the library when my daughter was 3, and she giggled nonstop with every reading. I purchased it the next year and she finds different things funny each Halloween. A joyous, extremely well-designed and written book.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 18, 2017We LOVE this book! Absolutely LOVE it! It's an adorable story about a ghost being scared, woodland creatures, a cat and donuts. It's far more charming than I realized and it is the best book purchase we've made in awhile. My 4 yr old asks me to read it every night, so I consider it a huge win!
The only negative I have is that the pages are rippling, as if they were exposed to lots of humidity. The box wasn't wet upon arrival, and the book cover wasn't stuck to the cover, so I knew that it wasn't rained on. I do think that during warehouse storage or transportation or it was exposed to humidity because the same book we found in the store had smooth pages.
Overall, I am so happy that we have this book because my son is in love, but I do with that the pages were flat and not rippling.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 7, 2017We actually checked this book out at our local library. It was highlighted on a special holiday shelf. Our kids loved it so much that we ordered it the day we had to return it to the library so we could add it to our home library. Thanks to the author for such a fun story and cute illustrations.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 20, 2019My early elementary aged school kids loved this funny and sweet story of a ghost who is a scaredy cat. The illustrations and quality of the book are really beautiful.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 21, 2022I insisted on getting some Halloween books for my October baby and this book is so fun and different! Such a fun read! Love!!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 10, 2018Because my three year old likes this book so much that she can recite work by word the entire book. As an adult, I tried very hard to understand why she likes this book so much. Even I gave up on that, I still bought the book on Amazon at a relatively acceptable price. Why the good authors on kids book all make their book so expensive? We saw the book first from local library.
