The True Love Experiment Kindle Edition

Sparks fly when a romance writer and a documentary filmmaker join forces to craft the ultimate Hollywood love story—but only if they can keep the chemistry between them from taking the whole thing off script—from the “divine” (Jodi Picoult) New York Times bestselling authors of The Soulmate Equation and The Unhoneymooners.

Felicity “Fizzy” Chen is lost. Sure, she’s got an incredible career as a beloved romance novelist with a slew of bestsellers under her belt, but when she’s asked to give a commencement address, it hits her: she hasn’t been practicing what she’s preached.

Fizzy hasn’t ever really been in love. Lust? Definitely. But that swoon-worthy, can’t-stop-thinking-about-him, all-encompassing feeling? Nope. Nothing. What happens when the optimism she’s spent her career encouraging in readers starts to feel like a lie?

Connor Prince, documentary filmmaker and single father, loves his work but when his profit-minded boss orders him to create a reality TV show, putting his job on the line, Connor is out of his element. Desperate to find his romantic lead, a chance run-in with an exasperated Fizzy offers Connor the perfect solution. What if he could show the queen of romance herself falling head-over-heels for all the world to see? Fizzy gives him a hard pass—unless he agrees to her list of demands. When he says yes, and production on
The True Love Experiment begins, Connor wonders if that perfect match will ever be in the cue cards for him, too.

“Full of big laughs, a few tears, and some seriously steamy scenes” (
Kirkus Reviews, starred review), The True Love Experiment is the book fans have been waiting for ever since Fizzy’s debut in the New York Times bestselling The Soulmate Equation.

Review

"Another winning romance from Lauren, full of big laughs, a few tears, and some seriously steamy scenes." -- - Kirkus Reviews (starred review)

"The authors gleefully play with romance tropes, blending the delight of the meet cute with smart critiques of more toxic dating habits and wrapping the whole in clever dialogue and refreshing sex-positivity. Readers will have no trouble rooting for Fizzy." -- -Publishers Weekly

“The True Love Experiment is my favorite kind of book to devour: something that manages to be hot and intense, yet still the very best comfort food. The divine Christina Lauren has created the ultimate reality dating show, and like all its fictional viewers, you’ll fall for Fizzy.” -- - Jodi Picoult, NYT bestselling author of MAD HONEY

When the authors mentioned that this was a love letter to the reader, I truly felt it! Connor’s grand gesture had me teary! 🥹🥹 The true connection that these two characters have was so genuine. The interactions were so mature and Connor…my goodness what a grounded male character. Cheers for strong and effective communication! The way the reality TV show was developed had me eating the pages. I think this book just made me re-fall in love with romance as a genre. I’m such a cynic and find it hard to find a romance novel that hits all the points (great plot/writing, believable fun and non-toxic characters, and great chemistry) and The True Love Experiment had me from all angles. Nothing but positive thoughts. Will immediately be reading all 29 other Christina Lauren novels.

It’s often difficult to successfully pull off the comedy in a romance novel. This book had me smiling & laughing. It was truly a delightful read.steamy sex scenes a bit much but well written & honest.

This book was a fun read & I recommend it to others. It will also make a great movie (#Hollywoodshouldlistentomyopinion)

I read a lot of books and skip between romance and suspense/thriller. I loved this book. The characters were witty and endearing, the story was cute and not overdone, the scenes were steamy, and I hope there is a hidden epilogue or fast forward bonus book out there somewhere. I usually just do free from kindle unlimited but this I paid for and it was totally worth it

This was a fun read. It was an odd combination of light-hearted and deep in places, but it worked, IMHO. You can get the general theme of the book in the description, and it flows from there. Some aspects were predictable, but there is a little twist, too, which made it interesting. I liked the pairing of Fizzy and Connor- the chemistry was believable to me. The end made the book for me, though. Not giving spoilers, but I thought this was well-done- I actually read the end again right after reading it the first time. There were some spicy romantic parts (detailed- warning for those who might be averse to that). There were some times when I felt Fizzy was borderline vulgar in how she talked, which I think was meant to show how lightly she generally viewed relationships and sex, but I felt it took away from her character a bit more than built it, but that might just be my feeling. I read this without reading the first in the series, but I don’t feel like I was missing anything because of it- it stood well on its own. I may go back and read the first after I finish others on my reading list. This was the first book I read by this author duo, but I will likely read more! Overall, it was a feel-good, light read for a nice mental/emotional vacation.

Lovely characters, bits of humor and a plot that was different even if the ending was predictable. This was a very pleasant read that was only mildly interrupted by professional angst. It’s a worthy novel for any romance lover.

Wonderful writing by the great Christina Lauren duo. Multi-layered characters who evolve together in ways they never imagined…and we are fortunate observers in their journey. Heartwarming, evocative and just ‘all the right feels’, this story is just the ticket to warming your heart and buoying your belief in True Love. Definitely not to be missed!

Yay! Fizzy got her own book! I loved her in The Soulmate Equation and could only hope this duo gave Fizzy her own HEA. And they teamed her up with the perfect partner in Connor Frederick Prince III. Now with a name like that, you’d think he was an elderly stuffy gentleman….well that is far from what Conn was like. He’s only in his early thirties but is wise from his life’s experience and occupation. It was smooth sailing for this couple and they had some hard obstacles to overcome but it’s worth the ride. I’m never a fan of overly dramatic dilemmas within a book, I avoid them like a virus, so I was pleased that Fizzy and Connor worked through their issues without the immaturity. The solution and grand gesture was a great ending. I did hope for more, maybe a different epilogue with more details on their life a few years later. I actually enjoyed this book more than TSE.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Favorite Christina Lauren to date
Reviewed in Canada on August 19, 2023
This book was WOW! I loved the soulmate equation (which was my favorite Christina Lauren to date) but this one knocked it out of the park. It was funny and heartfelt, the characters were so likeable I fell in love with them right away. Fizzy is now my absolute rom-com favorite heroine. She is so funny and witty and quick on her feet. She gives the best advice and she's the aunty and friend everyone would love to have. And Connor. I loved how we can see the biggest change in him from the beginning to the end of this book. He has the best character development in my opinion. The side characters were also great and added to the story either my giving us more insight on why the MCs are the way they are or by having an actual supporting role. The pace of the story was perfect, fast enough but not too much that we did not get character growth or skipped on the chemistry building (which was hot hot hot). It really felt like I was watching a love story unfold and I could not put it down. This is hands down the best Christina Lauren book to date.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful romance with snark and witty banter.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on August 14, 2023
The True Love Experiment features Fizzy, who you may have met in The Soulmate Equation where she was the heroine's best friend (don't worry you don't need to have read The Soulmate Equation to follow this, though it may make it more fun if you have). Fizzy's a romance author suffering from writers block. Her fans are clamouring for her next book, but she’s just realised she’s never been really in love and now she can’t get past a meet cute in anything she writes. Connor Prince wants to make documentaries, but the small production company she works for has just pivoted to reality TV (there’s more money in it) and now he needs to produce a TV dating show or look for another job, which will probably mean moving away from his daughter. He decides Fizzy should be the heroine of his series after a chance encounter, she decides she’s going to teach everyone who looks down on romance novels and reality TV a lesson. Only trouble is, how can she fall for any of the heroes on the show, if she can’t stop thinking about the show’s producer?

Oh boy. This is so good. So good. I ate it up in one giant sitting, not even putting it down to eat my pizza for dinner. Fizzy and Connor are an absolute delight. There is snark and witty banter, there is just having sex to get it out of their systems (such a fun trope) and seemingly no way that these two can end up together without it being a professional disaster for one or both of them.

Also it’s just such a nice world to spend time in – awful parents aside; all the characters are a delight and it’s lovely to see River and Jess again along with lovely Juno and Connor’s adorable daughter Stevie. There’s boyband concerts and romance in jokes and I was so happy with how it turned out but sad that it was over too. Just lovely
