"Ready?" the voiceover-style narration asks on the first page; it shows a yellow dot on a plain white background. "Press here and turn the page," it instructs. When the page is turned, there's a second yellow dot beside the first one. "Great!" it says. "Now press the yellow dot again." A third yellow dot appears beside the first two. "Perfect," the narrator continues. "Rub the dot on the left... gently." On the next page, voila!—that dot is now red. "Well done!" the book congratulates. The fun continues as the dots proliferate, travel around the page, grow and shrink in response to commands to clap, shake, or tilt the book, etc. The joy is in the tacit agreement between artist and reader that what's happening is magic. I always give books for baby showers. This is one of my top 5 choices, I have probably given this book four times, plus one coming up. It is a great 'lap sitter' book (not good for a group). Just received a copy for my next gift and I am disappointed that there is some gunk on the back of this copy plus on a few internal pages. if I had never bought this book before it would have gone back. I'm wondering if a Used copy was substituted by mistake? So while this copy is not perfect, the story is precious. I may try a local bookstore next time.

As a kindergarten teacher, I sometimes bring in my own books to class for storytime - this being one of those books. My personal class ranges from 2-4 and they absolutely love this during storytime, as all 18 of them can intereact with the story while still sitting down. While I definitely wouldn't leave the book to the children as the inner pages would be ripped, the cover is pretty sturdy! I've even read it to the older kids in the kindergarten and they still really enjoy the interaction in the book.
