Spark is a wonderful reminder that creativity comes in many forms!
As a Christian mama of four, ages 10, 7, 5, and 3, it was refreshing to read Spark. I was reminded that God created each of my children differently, but each of them were made to create. "Creativity is an ability that everyone has and skill that everyone can learn to use." (p.7) One of my kids is a "fast and fun" type of creator and another is "slow and steady." None of them are painters, but all of them are creators. I can encourage my 10 year old as she creates a lesson plan for her pretend school, my 7 year old as he builds an obstacle course, my five year old as she designs a doll house, and my three year old as she decorates play dough cupcakes. Every kid has a "favorite way" to use their creativity. Once your kid has found their "instrument" to be creative, encourage them to keep trying. I love the quote on p.51, "You have to make a lot of not-so-great stuff in order to make great stuff."

Such a great lesson in creativity for kids. Breaking the notion that creativity is just about drawing or being artistic. It’s about problem solving and finding relationships between things in unexpected ways. And how you can be creative in any field or interest. The balances fun examples and activities, with meaningful content that is easy to understand. Along with absolutely beautiful illustrations by my personal friend, the amazingly talented, Emily Balsley, this book is great for kids of all ages and even kids-at-heart like me.

This book is a joyful vehicle in helping us explore and expand our creativity. I purchased this for my 12 year old daughter who’s working on being more gentle with herself. The positivity of these ideas and activities helps enhance her healthy relationship with herself.

My daughter really like the American Girls books that have been coming out lately. She has been reading and rereading this one. It has all sorts of inspiration to get the creative juices flowing and to boost self confidence.

It has five chapters - Creativity, Imagine, Make, Tinker, Finish. The first chapter plants some seeds about how to be creative, such as choosing an instrument. It doesn't have to be a musical one, although that's the example they give. It also has a hall of fame of creative women in different fields. The next chapter suggests ways to imagine new things and methods of finding inspiration. There are some blank pages for your ideas and several thought provoking questions to guide you. Chapters three and four get you started on making things and have lots of encouragement. They suggest positive ways to consider what you've made and says that you are not making mistakes, you are making new things. The last chapter helps you figure out when are satisfied with what you've created and how to save it if you want to do so.

All the pages are bright and colorful. There are plenty of positive illustrations of girls having fun and finding success in trying something out of the box. There are almost 100 pages of great ideas and the back has a tear out poster for easy access to inspiration hanging on your wall. My daughter hasn't hung it yet, but she tells me she really likes the book.

Spark: A guide to ignite the creativity inside you
Wish had this one years ago.
My daughter has been writing in pretty journals since about age 7.
This one would have been perfect for her a few years ago but she is still liking it and she is well beyond the age range.
Has such neat ideas to make you think and the pages are inspiring.
Half the fun when she was little was to find a journal that was more than just a basic book with white pages.
She always picked out ones with something going on inside to keep her motivated to continue writing.
Now as a teenager she has such a love of the pen and it has been fun for her to go back through her journals and see her progress.
This one would be perfect to get your child started to see if they would like to journal or doodle or just put their moments down on the pages to look back at when they are an adult.
Such a motivational book this one is to get you to feel and be anything you set your mind to.
Both my daughter and I have enjoyed looking through this one and talking about it.
