Eh. Mind changed after extended use
***The below paragraph is my first review which I posted about 2 weeks after using the Elvie. My updated review is below this one.*** As a working mom I wanted to find a pump that would work for me on several aspects: pretty portable, easy to clean, good suction, not too many parts, comfortable. This pump checks most of the boxes. Its super portable. It has really good suction, way better that I though it would have considering it doesn't have tubes. There aren't too many parts, and its not murder on your nipples. Clean up is where I would dock a star. the pieces are all weirdly shaped and its hard to get them cleaned and dried easily. You definitely can, but it just takes a bit longer and is a little annoying. If you leave them to air dry it would probably be fine, but working I need to clean them after use. Additionally on clean up, transferring is a bit odd too. You have to use the pour spout or the milk drips on the counter. Also with the pour spout there is always some milk left in the bottle part that you cant get out. The last part I don't like is that when you take it off, there is a milk build up. Because of the way the shield is shaped its hard to get it off without dripping milk. Again, not a huge thing, just a minor annoyance. All in all I love it. I get better volume with this pump that I got with either of my Medelas or my Lanisoh. The app tracks it pretty well, but if you get any milk splash on the sensors it doesn't really work until you dry them off again, which is a hinderance while pumping. But if you stay upright and don't bounce around the sensors are fine. It is really small to travel with and the battery life is pretty good. I can pump 3 or 4 20-30 minute sessions before I have to charge, so basically I just charge it every night. Its very comfortable and pretty quiet. Its not silent like it says on the description, but with the light office noise and tv or radio you don't really hear it. The loudest part is the milk dripping into the bottles but there is really nothing you can do about that. It quiet enough that I'm comfortable wearing it and pumping with my coworkers around. All in all if you're on the fence about it id recommend it. I love how much milk it gets out and how portable it is. Its definitely worth the price to me. ***UPDATE*** I've been exclusively pumping with the Elvie for about 3 months now. I am still a fan of the amount that the pump gets. HOWEVER the bottles are not labelled correctly for ounces. What the Elvie bottles say is usually about 1/2 and ounce different than the actual volume. So, if I was bagging milk and the bottles said I have 3.5 in one bottle and 2.5 in the other, I would label that bag for 6 ounces. It is actually only 5 ounces. That makes a big difference when your baby is hungry and eating a specific amount. The battery life is still good. The sensors worked well for the first 2-3 weeks and then not really ever again. They ALWAYS stop the pump telling it the bottle is full, but normally the bottle only has 2.5-3 oz. That really sucks because you have to tell the pump to start again every few minutes and you cant really trust if the bottle is full or not. As for the main problem. LEAKING. Idk what the secret is to get it to not leak. I had the best luck the first few weeks with it not leaking. After that I've had it leak on me about 6 times. It really sucks because by the time you notice your shirt is all wet and its wasted at LEAST an ounce of milk. It definitely still has its upsides, but its not as great as I first thought. If you're debating between the Willow or the Elvie the leak proof bags of the willow would sell it for me.

I hesitated so much to purchase this pump with my first child, 4 years ago. It was new and expensive, everyone doubted me when I added it to the registry. “Just use the one insurance gives you, it’s free!”
Well, I am here to tell you that is a load and if you’re even remotely on the fence about purchasing this pump. Just do it.
I used a Medela 4 years ago and after my pumping journey with that thing I swore my next pumping experience would be different. I was stuck plugged into a wall and seriously it messed with my head pumping every 2-3 hours for the first 3 ish months.
With the Elvie, I am completely free to get up, help my toddler get water in the kitchen, fold laundry while sitting on the couch, go to the bathroom, I mean the list is endless. I’ve even worn the Elvie while I went inside Target to get groceries.
I posted a photo of both left and right pump while wearing an everyday t-shirt as well as a video with the sound up close.
The sound is quiet and unnoticed by most. It does not bother me.
I charge both pumps every time I use them and they’ve lasted for an accidental 50 min pumping session, where I fell asleep..
The parts are extremely easy to clean and keep up with, I watched several YouTube videos to educate myself on how to use the parts and clean them.
I went with the Elvie over another popular wearable pump simply because it was more easily accessible and now I’m glad I did because the other name brand you have to purchase extra pieces if you want to have reusable milk containers instead of plastic bags to store your milk.
The suction on the Elvie is great, it completely empties my breasts with each use and I’ve never messed with the suction settings. I can only speak from my personal experiences with the Elvie as there are a lot of people that state otherwise.
I don’t have any cons about this pump at all, whatsoever. Purchase it for your pumping journey and it’ll change your life.

UPDATE: 2025 and using the Elvie pumps for a second breastfeeding journey on my third baby. This pump stored wonderfully for close to 3 years, charged up and worked immediately after getting it out. It felt very natural, like I didn’t skip a beat in using it. While I purchased new shields, flanges etc. the previous ones were still in good condition. After sterilizing everything, I’ve continued to use the original part and they work like new. The suction is still impressive to me. While I have adjusted it to fit my personal needs, I get a great output with these pumps. Wear a tight fitting bra and don’t do jumping hacks while pumping, seems simple enough for me. I still highly recommend these pumps to every single mama I know. Don’t spend another moment thinking about, buy them. They will save you so much mental exhaustion from being plugged into the wall with a traditional pump.

      Report
    • Reviewed in the United States on June 9, 2021
Let me say I am VERY disappointed in this product. I have tried on multiple occasions to keep using this product as well as seek support. It seems like there is always an issue. Aside from medical factors this pump leaks, has inconsistent suction, and randomly powers off (not pause, it turns entirely off). The only thing consistent about these pumps is the amount of issues it's causing. Over the last month postpartum, I have probably spent too much time stressing about this product.

Medically these pumps have caused so much pain and trauma to my nipples. After consulting with a lactation specialist, I was sized to the correct flange and STILL had pain. I went as far as seeing the doctor because blisters formed on my nipples, which ended up also causing thrush! Constantly having open sores from these pumps have led both the doctor and lactation consultant advising me to stop the use! Ridiculous that I'm out hundreds of dollars on these pumps and all the accessories I've invested in to try to make these work for me.

This product is promoted as pumping anytime/anywhere, silent, wearable, hassle-free, smart, and responsive. It's really unfortunate that I can find a problem with each of these categories….

How can I pump anytime/anywhere when I have been advised by support to sit still, in an upright position many times? To avoid leaking this is what I was told to fix the issue. NEWSFLASH this item STILL leaks when I do this! Besides the point, the #1 reason to buy this pump is the ability to be portable. When you barely have enough supply for your baby, it's very discouraging and disappointing to have it leak all over. Support also advised me to check all corresponding parts, which I have, and we found no issues there. Just told to sit still…. Which doesn't even fix the issue. What a joke. Makes me wonder how much milk I'm really missing out on, how much my baby is missing out on? What if these didn't leak, could I no longer need to supplement with formula? Really sad I have to stress about this!

A silent pump would be great. I have addressed this issue with support as well. Squeezing and a thumping sound (not how it typically should sound) takes place. While they have replaced the pump before, this issue continually arises! Not only that, but I notice every time it occurs, the pain is even worse! Again, pain which has caused blisters and damage to my nipples leading medical professionals to advise me to stop using the product.

Sure, the product is wearable, BUT why would I want to wear this anywhere when all it does is leak? As mentioned above, I've been advised by support to sit still when using. Either way, the product still leaks! So as far as being wearable, I'll pass since I soak through my bra and shirt anyway!

Hassle-free is a JOKE! While there are only 5 parts to clean, the hassle comes from all the issues which no one can seem to resolve. Continuously saying the same tips (which haven't worked!) and sending new hubs is not fixing these issues that keep occuring. These hubs are a complete hassle and very stressful for a new mom trying to feed her baby.

The smart component would be great if the app didn't glitch every so often, but more importantly if the hub would correctly track pumping. Continuously being told the bottle is full and the hub pausing makes pumping longer and more stressful. Even when the bottle is less than half full I run into this issue. Sometimes instead of pausing, the whole pump powers off! Unacceptable! How can I control the pump remotely if it turns off? In addition to this they are constantly losing connection with the app! What a HASSLE.

Responsiveness is nice when it switches modes, but again, the bottle full detection is far off!

To say the least, I am disappointed, stressed, furious, and unsatisfied. With multiple attempts at searching for help from Elvie customer service with no success and being advised by doctors to stop my use of this product before I cause permanent damage, I find myself out of hundreds of dollars. I have tried many times to make these pumps work, truly. How can I return these and get my money back? I am over the pain and stress. I would simply like to feed my child without pain, discomfort, stress, or permanent damage.

This is a game changer for pumping mums, I have been using it for a month and I love it, the suction is strong and you can control it in the application, it also tells you how much milk you have while pumping which is simi-accurate, I am able to pump the milk while moving around which is great!

Pero si desearía saber si estoy haciendo algo mal o por qué me saca tan poquita (y se que no es problema mío, porque tengo otro de otra marca que en la mitad de tiempo me saca un poco más que el Elvie Pump 😫)

5.0 out of 5 stars It is actually worth the money...

I hate to admit it, but this has been worth every penny!!!! It does exactly what it says it will. A Primark girl at heart I originally bought a cheaper version. And it worked okay for a couple of months, but it would leak easily and the battery went downhill quickly.
I bought this in sheer desperation as my milk supply can be all over the place and I really wanted to get time to pump hands free, and it just works! It is neat. It is actually quiet. Not silent, but I doubt anyone would hear it unless you were in a library and talking to someone two foot away from you. The way the bottle inserts to collect milk means it doesn't leak (you will get a couple of drops when you take it off) unlike the cheap version that leaked about 2ozs down me!
Easy to clean, easy to charge. Granted I feel like Pammy when I have them both in, and no you can't go for a jog in them, but you can potter around the house and run (upright) errands in them. Its great overnight to feed off one side and pump the other and my little one is oblivious to it.
So yes I'm sorry to say it isn't cheap, but it is exactly what you were looking for!!

Expensive breast pump BUT worth the $ IMO. It’s super quiet, easy to use, gentle, easy to clean and looks great. Comes with extras as well. Has kept me breastfeeding, keeping on top of my mastitis and not spending $$ on formula.
