I have used one of these lid openers for years and given them to several people as gifts.This is so simple but it works. It is wonderful for older people or someone with arthritis in their hands. Only Has Teeth on One Side
You would expect a tool like this to have metal saw-like teeth on both sides of the "V" but instead, one side is smooth plastic. Yet it works beautifully to open jars. The smooth side wedges the lid in place against the metal teeth by friction. Many years ago I was using large (5 or 6" diameter) round rubber discs to grip and open stubborn jar lids. That seemed to be the only way to do it at the time. In later years I found that to be a difficult way to open a jar and sometimes it failed. I like this opener because it mounts securely to the underside of a cabinet. It won't get lost in a drawer. It's easy to use because you're turning the jar, not the lid, and there's no slippage. This opener has never failed to open jars I couldn't budge using just my hands. As I gradually lose strength with age, I'll be relying on this more and more. I believe it's well designed and durable, so I think it will last a very long time.
