A novel of terrible first impressions, hilarious second chances, and the joy in finding your perfect match from "a true talent" (Emily Henry, #1 New York Times bestselling author).

Dr. Briana Ortiz’s life is seriously flatlining. Her divorce is just about finalized, her brother’s running out of time to find a kidney donor, and that promotion she wants? Oh, that’s probably going to the new man-doctor who’s already registering eighty-friggin’-seven on Briana’s “pain in my ass” scale. But just when all systems are set to hate, Dr. Jacob Maddox completely flips the game . . . by sending Briana a letter.

And it’s a really good letter. Like the kind that proves that Jacob isn’t actually Satan. Worse, he might be this fantastically funny and subversively likeable guy who’s terrible at first impressions. Because suddenly he and Bri are exchanging letters, sharing lunch dates in her “sob closet,” and discussing the merits of freakishly tiny horses. But when Jacob decides to give Briana the best gift imaginable—a kidney for her brother—she wonders just how she can resist this quietly sexy new doctor . . . especially when he calls in a favor she
can’t refuse.

“Abby Jimenez’s words…sprinkle humor and warmth all over my life.” –Ali Hazelwood, New York Times bestselling author of The Love Hypothesis

Overall, it was a good read to me. Just not up to par with her others in my opinion.
Yours Truly by Abby Jimenez 3.5-4 stars Spice: 🔥/5 I love Abby Jimenez’s writing. However, I did not absolutely love Your Truly as much as I anticipated. Don’t get me wrong – I liked this book. I just didn’t want to crawl inside this book and became these characters like I’ve wanted to do with Abby’s past books. As much as I love Abby for bringing anxiety to the forefront, I’m not sure I loved it in the main male character, Jacob. I have enough anxiety in my real life that I felt like it took some of the sex appeal away from me, because I know exactly how he feels a lot of the time. Not to the extreme where I need to know the parking situation, but I loved that Briana knew him well enough that she provided the information he needed. Abby did a great job with creating their chemistry and history between the letters, phone calls, and working together. Even though they didn’t know each other long, Abby did a great job at creating a relationship between these two well. I wouldn’t have minded a bit more spice though. Spoilers ahead: Two ER doctors who were very shortly enemy to friends, turned into a fake dating trope, and then an accidental pregnancy was thrown in. Two of my least favorite tropes, fake dating and accidental pregnancy did not help me love this book as much as I’ve loved her others in the past. As someone with infertility, I just don’t love that trope and I felt it was added in to create that third act break up. Overall, it was a good read to me. Just not up to par with her others in my opinion. Which is entirely okay. Someone else may absolutely love this one over her past books. Books are so subjective, and that’s why I love reading so much. #avidreaderbookblog #readingislife #bookblogger #bookbloggerofinstagram #bookbloggers #romance #romancebookblogger #romancebookbloggerofinstagram #romancebookstagram #bookstragram #bookstagrammer #bookaddiction #abbyjimenez #abbyjimenezbooks #workplaceromance #angst #triggers #fakedating

I loved this book so much!!! I am OBSESSED!!! Abby is such an amazing writer!!! I felt so bad for Bri when she didn't get the position at first. I love that she has Alexis in her life. And Jacob has anxiety. I wanted to cry for him, and for me too, when I learned what it's like for him and how he thinks other people feel about him. I felt so seen. It's like I wrote my feelings on a piece of paper and sent them to Abby to use while writing Jacob. And I was sad to learn that his ex is marrying his brother. I hate that he thinks he is boring. I loved the convo with his family and how it quickly turned into an uncomfortable conversation, lol. And I loved that everyone was mad at Amy and Jeremiah on his behalf. But I have to agree with Jacob that them being mad is not going to make Amy and Jeremiah change their mind. And Jacob overthinking his interaction with Bri and feeling like a jerk for not letting it go is so familiar. I do this too and it's so exhausting. I liked their easy conversation in the sob closet, even though it only lasted a few seconds before it went downhill. I understand Bri not wanting any platitudes. Benny is entitled to feel angry about his situation. It is unfair. And Bri is allowed to be mad at it, too. But omg, do I understand Jacob and feel awful for him. Anxiety is awful and exhausting. But I also feel for Bri and Benny.😭😭😭

Awww, Jacob was sewing the girl's doll so she could be distracted while the bite was treated. He's so cute and sweet. And I loved that Zander told Bri that Jacob is an introvert and a bit shy. As an introvert, I understand what it's like to have people think you're a jerk simply because you don't talk much and seem standoffish. And then Bri told him to bring the nurses dessert and he asked her which cupcake was her favorite!!!! 🥰🥰🥰

I loved how they started to exchange letters and got to know and understand each other better through them. I was smiling the whole time! Their letters were so sweet and funny!! I loved how Jacob poked fun at himself and felt comfortable with Bri to write more about himself. And their phone convos were even better!

I was so sad to learn that Amy made him uncomfortable. But I'm so happy he feels comfortable with Bri. I was so heartbroken when Bri broke down and cried while thinking about her marriage to Nick. I loved that Ali was there for her. And Jacob donated his kidney to Benny!!! I loved how welcoming Jacob's family was to Bri. I could totally feel Jacob's discomfort throughout the conversation about him when he was little as if I was in his shoes 😢. Though his family meant well and the stories were endearing, it is so uncomfortable for someone with anxiety to sit through that. I'm so happy Bri reassured him and was there to help and support him. I almost cried when he thought about how Bri must feel about the whole thing after dinner was over😢. And the taxidermy room!!! I laughed so hard at the coyote dressed like Flo from Progressive😂😂. I wasn't ready for Grandpa!!! He is so funny! And Jafar yelling profanities and Jacob's parents' safe word😂😂😂😂. I love how Lieutenant Dan always puts his head on Jacob's lap when he is nervous or his mood changes. He is such a good puppy. And his name is so clever! 😁.

I loved how Bri and Jacob's relationship slowly progressed into love. I loved their intimacy and how they could easily joke with each other. I was sad to learn that Jacob blamed himself for what happened with Amy. I'm happy Bri set him straight. There is nothing wrong with him and he is not boring!!! I was so mad at Amy for making him feel that way instead of taking the time to understand him. Ugh!!!! I loved the catchphrase game Bri taught Jacob and how she didn't make it easy for him. Ha!! I loved Bri's response to Amy's stupid comment about people, mostly her I'm sure😑, couldn't believe Jacob had a girlfriend. I was like "want something for the burn, Amy?" UGH! I don't like her one bit. And she had the audacity to follow him and argue with him about Bri using him and him being vulnerable after their break-up. Is she for effing real?! And of course Bri heard them and thought Jacob was still in love with Amy. I was so sad for her. I hate Amy so much!!! I hate that Jacob stayed and just paced after dropping Bri off. And I was happy when he asked Bri out for real. But of course I understand why she rejected him. I felt for the both of them 😭😭😭. Ali and Daniel are the bestest of friends.

I loved Joy's advice to Jacob to just show up. And he did. He went to Wakan to be with Bri. I love how easy it is for them to spend time together and how comfortable they are with each other. I loved watching them fall in love. But I was so heartbroken that they kept thinking their feelings were one-sided.

And she moved in!!! I was so happy when Bri just showed up at his door. And Bri thought Jacob wouldn't get jealous of Levi. Ha!! Of course he would, he is so enculado with her!!! And Bri is with him too. But they're too silly to realize it. I was so sad when Jacob had a panic attack at his parents' house. And Briana thought it was due to Amy and Jeremiah having a baby. And then Bri found him and told him she loves him and he kissed her!! That kiss was cathartic!!! And then they had the no-pants dance hehehehe. But poor Bri thought Jacob still wanted Amy and not her 😢. I was heartbroken for them both. I loved how Bri defended Jacob when that Shannon woman was talking nonsense about him. And Amy came to talk to her at the gazebo. And she realized that she did not appreciate Jacob and how much effort he put into showing up. And she wants Jacob to be happy because he deserves it!!! I had to smile and I guess I like Amy now.

I was so happy when their fight turned I to a love confession and they told each other how they feel. My smile was so big my face hurt!!😁😁. And they were so cute at the wedding. I loved their romance and flirting so much. And she caught the bouquet!!!😁🥰 And Benny, I mean Ben, lol, is dating Jane!!! I was so happy for him and learning that he's taking care of himself made me feel so relieved. He deserves to be happy. And I love that Bri and Amy are nice to each other after their conversation in the gazebo. And then they had to see Nick and pregnant Kelly on their way to their room. I panicked when I read it was them. Poor Bri, that was so jarring to her. And poor Jacob didn't know what to do, which made him anxious. And Lieutenant Dan was so distressed for Bri. I was devastated when they got home and Bri broke up with him. The things she said were so hurtful and that just shows how hurt she really was by the whole Nick situation. I totally understand where she was coming from after learning everythingshe went through. I was really horrible. I felt their panic. My chest got tight and I wanted to cry so bad😭😭. My heart broke for them both, again😭😭. I loved what Joy told Jacob about Briana needing therapy. Depression is an awful thing.

Jacob was so gentle with Bri through her awful moments. And she is pregnant. And he gave her his journal. And he is so in love with her!!!! I'm so happy she decided to be brave and accept his love. I loved that she was there when he woke up after the surgery. And he listed her as his wife!!!!!🥰🥰🥰🥰.

The epilogue was pure perfection!!! I loved that he did everything in his power to reassure Bri that he was not going to do the same Nick and her father did to her. He even changed his last name to hers!!! I loved that they went to therapy together and Bri also went alone to deal with her issues. And Jacob is a stay-at-home dad!!! I loved how they planned their wedding so simple and without any of the moments that would make Jacob the center of attention. I loved that Bri and Amy are friends now. And Ben and Jane are happy together!! I could honestly not have thought of a better and more satisfying ending to this beautiful story. Love shows up and they showed up for each other and agreed to be harmless to each other. I loved this book so much!!! Thank you Abby for the roller-coaster ride and for writing such beautiful stories with such well-rounded characters. I love your writing so much! I am obsessed!!! This book will always be at the top of my favorites list. ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

Abby Jimenez crafted a beautifully written story that captivated me from beginning to end. The way Brianna and Jacob first met was quirky and unforgettable, setting the perfect tone for their journey. I was immediately drawn to Jacob—his character was so beautifully developed, even as he struggled with anxiety. His vulnerability made him incredibly relatable, and I found myself rooting for him the whole time.

Brianna’s strength was equally compelling. Even after enduring a failed marriage, she remained tough and resilient. Her emotional complexity made her feel real, and I loved watching her open up to love again. The fake relationship trope was executed flawlessly, gradually blossoming into a heartfelt romance that felt authentic and meaningful.

One of the most touching aspects of their relationship was the notes they wrote to each other. It was a beautiful sentiment that added depth to their emotional connection. These little exchanges made their love story even more endearing and showed the care they had for each other beyond words spoken out loud.

The audiobook was absolutely perfect. The dual narration by Zachary Webber and Kayla Garcia was phenomenal. Their performances brought Jacob and Brianna to life in a way that made the story even more immersive. The emotional depth they conveyed added an extra layer to the narrative, making it impossible to hit pause.

Overall, I would rate this audiobook 4.5 stars. Yours Truly is my favorite Abby Jimenez book so far. It’s a beautiful blend of heart, humor, and healing, wrapped in a love story that felt genuine from start to finish. If you’re looking for an emotional yet uplifting romance, this one is an absolute must-listen.

Relatable. Anxiety is a demon. Ms Jimenez gave it form and life. I laughed and cried with Jacob. I too have hoof and mouth disease. His compassion comes from the empathy of knowing life can and does hurt. Brianna I liked her from the first book. She is amazingly good humored and has a sharp, tart tongue when called for. His family is worth the read. Insanity runs in families, right!
It’s really a gentle, simple, well told story that made me feel good.

Simply amazing & beautiful. The way i went into this one determined I wouldn’t let it bring me to tears was completely delusional. Just like Abby Jimenez’s books this one did not disappoint. Every one of her stories feels unique and takes on a life of it’s own. Our couple Brianna & Jacob have been added to my couples hall of fame.

My favorite parts of this story were the letters (YES LETTERS) that they wrote back forth to each other. Without giving anything away the last one Jacob writes made me ugly cry far longer than i care to admit. Thinking about this story brings tears to my eyes.

While this story can be read as a stand alone, it connects to the authors other book Part of Your World. That story was my first read by Jimenez last year and I will not stop screaming to the roof tops how good it was. This story follows Brianna & Jacob as they navigate very difficult times in there lives post traumatic break ups. Brianna ending a marriage that ended with cheating & Jacob’s ex now getting married to his brother (less than a year after ending their relationship. Yes totally messed up). Brianna & Jacob are the best of what the other needs.

I just love the way the author sheds light on real life difficult moments and leaves the reader feeling hopeful. She gives these broken characters an Angel in their life to bring them out of the darkness. Anything this author writes I will devour in a few days. Can’t wait to do a reread with the audio book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Oh so good
Reviewed in Australia on March 30, 2024
It's been a little while since I've read one of Abby's books, so I'd forgotten that at some point I end up either laughing out loud or crying. Her writing treads the balance between humour and heartfelt so well that it's like sliding into a warm bath at the end of a long day.

This book is one of the first where I've seen social anxiety dealt with so beautifully. There were a lot of instances of Jacob's behaviour and thought processes that I found myself having a 'oh snap' moment. Who would have thought that a rom-com novel would lead to so much personal introspection afterwards? Not this reader, and yet here we are. Briana's vulnerability and self-protectiveness was yep, you guessed it, another component of the book that had me thinking about my last few relationships. What the heck? This is a rom-com - why is it hitting me in the feels so much?!

Don't let my rambling self-reflection put you off though. This book is a delight. The joy and love Abby clearly has for her characters shines through in the writing. It's an entertaining read that might just happen to hit you in the feels. The family characters and interactions are all really well fleshed out without being melodramatic or over the top quirky, they're all people that you will recognise in your own life. Oh, and the easter egg shout out to Nadia Cakes is a great touch!

The book was fantastic to read, and the audiobook is next level good - the narrators couldn't have been a more perfect fit for this story.

    Highly recommended.

    QUICK REVIEW

Some books just wrap around your heart and refuse to let go—Yours Truly by Abby Jimenez is one of them for me. This is a romance that’s not just about falling in love but about learning to trust, heal, and truly see another person.

    DEEPER DIVE

    A brief synopsis.
Dr. Briana Ortiz has had enough. Her divorce is almost finalised, her brother desperately needs a kidney transplant, and to top it all off, the new doctor at her hospital, Jacob Maddox, is rumoured to be gunning for her promotion. Except… Jacob isn’t who she expected. Socially anxious, kind-hearted, and quietly thoughtful, Jacob is struggling with his own demons. When he unexpectedly offers to donate a kidney to Briana’s brother, everything shifts. What starts as wary office interactions turns into an endearing exchange of letters, a nostalgic, almost old-fashioned way of connecting that brings an extra layer of intimacy to their growing friendship.

The letter-writing element was an absolute highlight for me. There’s something deeply personal and vulnerable about written words, and seeing Briana and Jacob slowly open up to each other in this way made their connection feel so real. It wasn’t just chemistry—it was trust, built piece by piece.

Jacob’s neurodivergence is also a key part of the story, handled with nuance and authenticity. His social anxiety and the way he navigates the world add depth to his character, making him one of the most well-developed and relatable romance heroes I’ve read in a long time. His quiet acts of love—like offering his kidney without fanfare or expectation—speak volumes about the kind of person he is.

There’s an undeniable Pride and Prejudice vibe to Yours Truly too, particularly in Briana’s journey. From the start, she misjudges Jacob—assuming him to be cold, distant, and possibly even a workplace rival. But as the story unfolds, much like Elizabeth Bennet with Mr. Darcy, she begins to see past her initial assumptions. Jacob’s true nature—his quiet kindness, deep emotional intelligence, and unwavering generosity—slowly reveals itself, making her (and the reader) fall for him in the best way. While not a direct retelling, that gradual unravelling of prejudice and the discovery of a deeply good heart beneath the surface adds a wonderfully familiar and satisfying element to their romance.
I personally relate to both of our main characters in many ways.

Jimenez doesn’t just skim the surface of emotions; she dives in. The book tackles grief, anxiety, chronic illness, and the ways our past wounds shape us, but it does so with a balance of humour and heart. Some moments are laugh-out-loud funny, while others hit you right in the feels.

If you love romances that feel deeply human—where love isn’t just about passion but about understanding and safety—then Yours Truly needs to be on your shelf. With its beautifully developed characters, emotional depth, and the softest, most heartfelt letter-writing trope, it’s a book that lingers long after the last page.

Perfect for anyone who loves contemporary romance with heart, humour, and characters that feel achingly real.

    Key tropes:
Epistolary romance, fake dating, a little bit of grumpy sunshine, workplace romance, slow burn, major yearning, misunderstanding.

This deserves all the very big-enormous-gigantic and very fat five stars! This was so cute, so adorable, so beautiful!

Yours Truly was one of my most anticipated books of 2023 and it delivered more than I was expecting! Oh, I absolutely loved it.

Briana and Jacob's story is like a warm and your favourite blanket which you never want to let go of. It's summer outside? Yey, good for weather but gimme my blanket back and nobody gets hurt.

I adored meeting Briana and Jacob! Their first interaction is so funny, you literally just want more and more because you know it'll be both hilarious and adorable in the best freaking way possible!

Jacob is the sweetest sweetheart ever. Gosh, I love that man! He's so gentle, so kind, and perfect! That man is perfect. He says all the right things, he does all the freaking right things! If I sobbed while reading this book, it's because of Jacob!! That man made me cry, and made me "awwwww" and made my heart happy!

I love Briana. So funny, adorable, beautiful! She's loyal, very protective of Jacob. And she's a very strong woman. She's fighting her own battles and personal insecurities, and I'm so happy that she has such amazing people in her life who help her every step of the way.

Briana and Jacob's story is beautiful. It may be a bit sad at times, but ultimately it's so heartwarming that I genuinely feel I could never get enough of them. I finished the book, and yet I want more.

Abby Jimenez' writing is one of my favourites ever, I loved her books I read so far and I will absolutely read the others I haven't yet. She's amazing, and I cannot wait to see what Abby writes next.
