Cultivate happiness and calm with mindfulness meditations
Mindfulness is a proven method for finding calm and reducing stress. Practical guidance from the founder of One Mind Dharma will help build or enhance an ongoing mindfulness practice.

The Wandering Mind
The natural tendency of the mind is to wander. Even the most accomplished meditators have wandering minds! The brain was designed to process information; it’s just doing its job. Rather than seeing this as a problem, approach it as an opportunity to strengthen your mindfulness. Try to bring forgiveness, curiosity, and patience to these moments, and whenever your mind wanders, bring it back to the breath.
Finding the Breath / Time: 5 minutes
The body is always breathing, and the breath is constantly moving. Your breath is not only the best place to start; it’s a constant you can return to anytime you need a little centering.
In this first practice, you will gently find the breath in the body. There is nothing to figure out, there are no problems to solve, and there’s nothing special you need to do.
Constantly return to your direct experience of the body breathing. You are training the mind to be with one experience without distraction.
Editorial Reviews
Review
"The best thing about Practicing Mindfulness is that it is practice based. Rather than espousing theories of why we should be mindful, Matthew artfully shows is precisely how. The practices within are clear, easy to learn, and easy to remember. This way we can use them when we need them! I would recommend this book to anyone new to meditation and to those who are experienced meditators."―Darren Littlejohn, author of The 12-Step Buddhist, http://the12stepbuddhist.com
"Habits are difficult to change. Our ways of behaving and thinking become ingrained in our neural networks, and this often causes us to act without forethought or reflection. But there is a space between stimulus and response, and by practicing mindfulness, we can increase the space between the two. This is where Matthew Sockolov's book comes in. Practicing Mindfulness demystifies mindfulness practice, and is a wonderful―and necessary―addition to existing literature."―Sonnee D. Weedn, Ph.D.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 6, 2024For more than 7 decades I have been a voracious reader. My interests have always been wide and varied from the scientific to the esoteric, from classic literature to westerns, and everything in between. This is why when I saw this 183-page soft cover book (Practicing Mindfulness: 75 essential meditations to reduce stress, improve mental health and find peace in the everyday by Mathew Sockolov) on Amazon I decided to purchase it.
Over the years I have read numerous books on meditation, and I have taken several training courses on related topics. I think this is one of the best books I have read on the subject of meditation techniques. There are lots of reasons I like this book, one of them being the large number of different approaches to practicing meditation techniques. The second is how it explains techniques that take very little time (from 5 minutes to 20 minutes in most sessions) and are easy to practice. The third thing is how many areas you can improve yourself with these simple meditation techniques.
After a brief introduction and an explanation of Mindfulness, there are three detailed sections (Basic mindfulness exercises, everyday mindfulness and mindful moods) that include various types of meditations such as “the mindful body, body awareness, caring for yourself, energizing the mind, cultivating the mind, waking up with awareness, cooling the fire, the strong you” and many others.
This is the kind of book that you may want to keep as a good reference source to try out the various techniques taught in this volume. I highly recommend this book for anyone who is seeking a very simple and effective guide to quick and easy meditation methods.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for ideas on guided meditation

1.0 out of 5 stars A waste of paper in my opinion
I got a refund on this book because really it's just sub-par. The content is not bad per say but would have been better suited to a blog post/ series.
The book just gives you ideas of things to meditate on. So yep not great and having page of paper with 5 sentences is a waste of a perfectly good tree
