The aMAZEing Labyrinth uses a clever board design to create a series of ever-changing mazes that one to four players must move through. The object of the game is for each player to collect as quickly as possible all seven treasures depicted on their individual treasure cards. To add to the challenge, players know what the next treasure is only after they find the one before it. Before each turn, a maze card is pushed into the maze in a strategic place, helping the player make his or her way to the prize. This means that the entire maze shifts and changes on each turn, confounding some and helping others. Players will need to think ahead to choose just the right spot to shift the maze in their favor. This is an excellent game to get lost in. A simpler version can be played by younger children. --Lee Strucker

Engaging and challenging board game for young kids

- Reviewed in the United States on May 15, 2025Bought Labyrinth six years ago for our three boys (now 9, 6, and 3), and it’s still a family game night MVP!
The simple rules (shift the maze to collect treasures) are easy for kids to learn, yet the strategy keeps everyone engaged. Our boys love outsmarting each other, and the ever-changing board ensures no game feels the same. I just know they are getting smarter and better forward thinkers as they play.
The quality shines: vibrant tiles, sturdy board, and cool pawns (our “Wizard” and “Knight”) have survived years of rowdy play. Setup takes a minute, but it’s worth it. Perfect for 20-30 minute sessions, even our 3-year-old joins with some help.
Not the deepest for hardcore gamers, but ideal for families.
Labyrinth is a durable, fun gem that’s taught our kids strategy and sportsmanship. A must for family bonding!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 26, 2024Love it! After playing several rounds with my kids and friends, I can confidently say this game has earned a permanent spot on our shelf.
What Makes It Great:
Simple Yet Engaging Gameplay:
The rules are easy to learn, making it accessible for kids and adults alike. The goal—navigating the shifting maze to collect treasures—is straightforward but requires enough strategy to keep it interesting.
Strategic Thinking:
I love how the game challenges players to plan their moves carefully. Shifting the maze pieces to block others while creating your own path adds a layer of tactical depth.
Beautiful Design:
The board and cards are vibrant and well-designed, with high-quality materials that stand up to repeated use. Ravensburger’s craftsmanship is evident in every detail.
Replayability:
The maze changes with every game, so no two rounds are the same. This keeps the experience fresh and exciting, even after multiple plays.
Family-Friendly:
It’s the perfect balance of competition and fun, suitable for players as young as 7. Watching kids figure out strategies and surprise you with clever moves is incredibly rewarding.
A Couple of Considerations:
Setup Time: Sliding the maze pieces to the starting positions can take a bit of time, but it’s part of the fun for some.
Advanced Players: For those who love heavy strategy games, Labyrinth might feel a bit light. However, it’s ideal for casual gaming.
Final Thoughts:
Ravensburger Labyrinth is a fantastic game that delivers hours of entertainment. Whether you’re introducing it to younger players or enjoying it as a nostalgic favorite, it’s an excellent mix of strategy, luck, and fun. Highly recommend it for families and game lovers of all ages!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 13, 2016I have been a board game lover all my life. I am always open for a traditional game of chess or go, a family night of Trivial Pursuit or Scrabble or an all-out nerd night with Shadows Over Camelot or Warhammer. My 3.5 yeard old son seems to have also acquired this interest, so I am now in a quest to find games that we both enjoy playing together.
Last November I came across Labyrinth, a game I had not considered before due to its childish-looking cover. Even it was rated 8+, I decided to give it a try due to the overwhelming good reviews in Amazon. Oh, what a right decision! Labyrinth is that kind of game where the concept, the gameplay and the artwork come together to provide a masterpiece of family entertainment. But enough general praise; let me give you the detail of why I love this game.
THE RULES
- In labyrinth, you have a deck of cards. Every turn, you look at your top card in the deck and then try to bring your pawn to the right place in the board where that item is. So if your top card is the sword, you will have to move your pawn to the place where the sword is
- The labyrinth does not always have a path to the item you want to pick. That is why there is an extra tile. You can insert this tile from any of the yellow arrows (look at the picture of my son inserting a tile). This will shift all that line, and reshape the whole labyrinth so you can have a path
- To win, you need to find all the treasures shown in your cards and go back to the start point
- While the rules might look simple at first, the gameplay is simply fantastic. Introducing the tiles allow you to change the shape of the labyrinth, or even shift the position of yourself or your rivals! As we play more often, we find more creative ways of playing - and sometimes to obstruct each other, hehehe
DESIGN AND QUALITY
- First of all, the game comes in a beautifully decorated box. Once open, it has compartments to store the pawns/cards/tiles. This is already a plus compared to other "modern" games that expect you to dump everything in a mess into the box
- The tiles, same as the board, are made of hard cardboard. I got a little surprised at first (I was expecting hard plastic), but now that I have got used to them I feel them sturdy and durable
- The pawns that you use to play are simply superb. The Wizard, the Warlock, the Witch and the Sorceress (that's what I have name them, you can look at the picture). Thank you, Ravensburger, for spending a little extra money in making each of them unique and not just make the same figure in four colors!
- The tiles slide very well when pushed; sometimes they get stuck if the line of tiles is not fully aligned, but after a few games you will get use to this and it will not bother you
- The artwork has a mixture of childish-looking and art. My son loves the sword and the dragon the most!
RECOMMENDED AGE
- In general, I recommend this game for children 5-6 if you are willing to spend time to teach them, and 8 if you want them to learn the rules quickly
- Yes, I am playing it with my 3.5 year old, but I still need to help him a lot. He can figure out how to move his pawn around the labyrinth to the next treasure, and even insert the tile for a small, easy labyrinth reshape. But for more complex moves he needs my help. Don't get me wrong, I love playing it with him, but unless you are a nerd like me you might be better with other games such as The Game of Life Junior Game or Monopoly Junior Board Game, or even ThinkFun Rush Hour if you have patience to teach him. You can check my reviews of these games if you are interested.
- If you are thinking to bu this game to play with adults only (no kids), I might not recommend it so much though. I think traditional games like Risk or Scrabble, or more advance games like Catan 5th Edition, Pandemic Board Game or Shadows Over Camelot will be more challenging and engaging for mature players
Overall, Labyrinth is definitely a 5-star game with a unique gameplay. I expect it to remain as one of our most often plays games for the next few years!

- Reviewed in the United States on March 14, 2025Didn't know what to expect with this game, but the reviews were mostly very positive, and I have an 8-year-old granddaughter who LOVES board games, so I decided to give it a try. It's AMAZING! So much fun. It's a simple game, really, but it can be very competitive, so you have to be strategic and think ahead before you move. The object of the game is to collect treasures by creating path to those treasures and collecting them. The person who collects all their treasures first, wins! It's been a great learning experience for my granddaughter, and a lot of fun for the oldest among us. Highly recommend this for families that like to game together!

This could have happened at the factory for all I know, but the Amazon package it came in showed no sign of damaged that could have passed it on to the board game box. Aside from that, a great game.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great addition to your games arsenal!
I am not usually big on board games, I enjoyed Monopoly Empire as it is really easy to pick up and play and taking over your opponents brands trying to win is quite satisfying. I am always on the look out for decent board games especially for the darker nights / Christmas time.
I came across Labyrinth, was on sale at half price and already had good reviews so I went ahead and ordered it. Delivery came pretty quick ( Prime member), opened the box and checked all the parts / cards were there. I was pleased to see a single sheet of A4 rules! On reading it seemed quite straight forward, my teenage daughters and I played and found it very entertaining, the fact that the board - as a maze - can change on each turn by putting in the extra maze piece in the marked areas and pushing the whole row of maze pieces along really does add a good dimension compared to regular board games - you can greatly help yourself or hinder others when trying to get your treasures. There are no dice - just prepare the board with the maze pieces - deal out the treasure cards ( don't show others these cards unless having a practice; ) - you have to then move the maze on your turn - then either choose to move ( or not move ) your character piece as far as you like as long as there is a clear path - or until you reach your treasure piece....on doing this you then turn over your next treasure card and wait your turn to again move the maze and then your playing piece as required. There is strategy to a point, and moving your piece off the board one side and as in the rules place it the opposite side before moving means you can get to the other side of the board then make your move. Some luck can come your way as well as not - as its funny when you think you are nearly at your treasure and then the player before you then moves the maze and the game changes completely!
This is well worth a go - I think we'll certainly be breaking this game out more than others we have ( apart from "grab a pig" or stinky pig which are great, quick easy games for a good giggle!!). I hope I have given a fair idea of how this game plays...and if you can get it for the £12 I paid then why not give it a go...the board / cards and pieces are decent enough quality - i would highly recommend...
