Clarkson Potter Punderdome: A Card Game for Pun Lovers Game – January 1, 2013
Purchase options and add-ons
• One part game, one part conversation starter, you don't need to be a pun master to master Punderdome: the goal is to make bad jokes and have fun along the way.
• The prompter for the round draws two prompt cards from the deck, then reads the prompts to the rest of the group. The other players have 90 seconds to combine the two prompts into a single, groan-worthy pun.
• When time is up, pun makers share their puns with the prompter, who awards the prompt cards to the player with the best pun. The winner then draws the next pair of prompt cards and the process repeats.
• The first player to obtain 10 pairs of prompt cards wins the game.
• Easy to play and enjoy in person or over video chat!
Punderdome includes:
• 200 double-sided cards (100 White and 100 Green)
• 2 Mystery Envelopes with fill-in prize slips
• 2 80-page pads for drafting puns
• 1 instruction card and 1 pun example card
• A stu-PUN-dous time for 3 or more players

Editorial Reviews
Review
“With the right mix of people you’ll be rewarded (or punished, depending on your tolerance for puns) when the mix of “Beatles” and “diner” leads to people singing lines like “I want to hold your ham…” and “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Sandwich...” the fusion of “dessert” and “fraternity” leads to suggesting college students with a sweet tooth rush Kappa Theta Apple Pie and avoid hazing-nut ice cream.”—A.V. Club
“This punderful game will replace Cards Against Humanity at your next party." --Mashable
"First, there was Apples to Apples, the game of absurd comparisons. Next, there was Cards Against Humanity, the R-rated Apples reboot for basics. And now, there’s Punderdome, a card game created by Fred and Jo Firestone."—Brokelyn.
" [The] new Pun-Based Card Game Will Shuffle Your Boredom."—Mental Floss
"Now the world’s best/worst pun contest has escaped Brooklyn’s bars and is on the way to your home, courtesy of the Punderdome home game...Inside is everything anyone would ever need to turn their living room into the scene of a no-puns-barred cage match...The game is hilariously groan-inducing fun, and a good one to pull out for a party or night in with the family."—SUVUDU Gaming
"This game is a witty way to get families to put cellphones, and other technology away for a bit and interact with each other face-to-face."—Cover Lovers Book Review
Praise for the Live Game Show, Punderdome 3000
“But for the contestants in a monthly pun competition at Littlefield, a performance space and bar in Brooklyn, forming puns is a spigot they can’t turn off.”—The New York Times
“(The PUNDERDOME®) was unabashed silliness that I longed to bottle and smuggle out in my purse.”—The New Yorker
“The lowly pun has long been considered the bottom-feeding bristle worm of the comedy world…. That has changed with the arrival of Punderdome 3000, a now monthly event that has turned punning into a high-functioning competition that is equal parts stand-up, beat poetry …” -- The New York Post
“Father-daughter pair Fred and Jo Firestone have started a family together. To clarify: It’s a figurative family, but indeed, ‘family’ is the right word; the Punderdomers are more loyal and tight-knit than just a ‘community,’ and have more inside jokes than your average ‘clan.’” -- Bustle

Fun game but takes a bit to get head into it! Lots of laughs and silliness

- Reviewed in the United States on June 22, 2016Game came delivered in a handy envelope so no extra boxes to deal with. I like the portable size to just throw in a bag if going to a party. Set came with two sets of cards, two notepads, two prize envelopes and a few sheets of tear away mystery prize slips. The dividers in the box keeps everythign nice and neat! Game play is very straightforward and mirrors the play of Apples to Apples and Cards Against Humanity. I did find that running through a few Pun Questions and Answers helped people understand what the game asks. Once we moved onto to using the white and green cards the 90 sec needed to brainstorm was definately needed! After a few rounds, people got more competitive and silly. Having to collect 10 sets of cards seems like a lot to win, but game play went to about a full hour with just 3 people. Looking forward to playing in a bigger group. I do like the endless combinations of the cards and the challenge of playing. I could see this game working well for all ages for kids learning to write to elders helping them stretch and use their brains in new ways. This father and daughter team knocked it out of the park again!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 11, 2018My extended family loves to try new games when we all get together. I bought this last Christmas for my husband, as he comes up daily with bad puns to make me groan....but he never opened it to check it out. So at our summer family gathering I brought it along. Everyone thought it looked too hard, I persisted that we needed to just try it. I had 8 takers, and about 6 who said they'd watch. We weren't strict with time limits....some puns took longer than others, but there are pun jokes on the back of each card that you can read aloud to entertain the crowd while you're waiting on that last contender to finish their pun. I was amazed at how clever some of my relatives were! Each round you flip two cards (one pile has nouns, the other pile has verbs) - you must write a pun that utilizes both words in some form or another. My husband didn't disappoint: with the words "Vampire" and "Fly" - his pun was simply "Bat"....the shortest "pun" ever. The reviews from the crowd were mixed.....while we all laughed and laughed at the reading of each contenders pun, the end-result was "this game would be funnier if everyone was drinking". Tough crowd!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 26, 2016I have to say this game has fabulously designed packaging. Very compact and well designed, just generally very pleasing to the eye. What immediately caught my eye is that this game is actually based on a live Game Show from Brooklyn, New York.
To play it is very straight forward. You need a minimum of three people, one of which is labelled a 'prompter' for the round. The prompter picks up two cards, and reads a quick pun question. The player who responds the quickest with a pun connecting the two cards wins extra seconds for the next round. The next round the prompter selects a green and a white card and players have 90 seconds to write down a pun combining both topics. The best pun, as chosen by the prompter rewards the player with the pair of cards. The winner of the round becomes the new prompter.
The objective of the game is to win the mystery envelope prize by being the first player/team to obtain ten pairs of cards. The mystery envelopes are included.
The game comes with the sets of cards, 2 note pads, 2 mystery envelopes and envelope prize cards. An instruction card and a tips card are also included.
While it takes a bit to get into the idea of puns - once you play it a bit you really get going and it is a lot of fun. This would be a great game to play with more than three people too. Some of the puns are so ridiculous, but it's all for a good laugh - which we cannot do too much of in my opinion!
Please note that I was sent a copy of this game for purposes of review, however the opinions are my own.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 8, 2016I brought this on a mission trip to India recently and we spend quite a few nights playing it: we all joking declared that this game, when played correctly, makes you completely hate yourself either for coming up with horrible puns instantly or for learning that you are trying too hard to have a sense of humor. Some of the puns in the pack are truly terrible as well but we nonetheless had a blast playing it.
Positives: Portable and easy-to-understand rules. It is also safe and fun to play with anyone from your priest to your drinking buddies: and especially fun with a priest who has been drinking.
Negatives: This has been really difficult to play with my friends who are not native English speakers but that is more because of the nature of puns than because of the game itself. If you are playing with anyone who may not be incredibly comfortable with English puns, I strongly suggest increasing the writing time.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 28, 2018This game is... interesting. It is tough to make puns on the fly with only 1 minute to do so; the puns rarely make sense and honestly it is super forced to make anything funny in this game. I am super disappointed in the way the rules for this game are written, maybe with some modification would be fun, but the real rules are not fun for us. I really love puns and word play, but this game is not for me.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 26, 2023We played Punderdome with our 9 yo son today, and he loved it. We liked the challenge of it while leaving room so as not to get frustrated with level of difficulty (kids not feeling discouraged from playing).
- Reviewed in the United States on March 27, 2018This game is harder than you think, even if puns are natural to you.
After a few rounds, however, we've decided that writing down the puns isn't really the way to go, because a lot of times the spoken delivery, the emphasis on certain words, is key (and the judge simply might not how to say it for maximum impact). The next time we play, we're going to do more of a charades style delivery and see how it works out. Still, this is a great brain-game.
