Product Description
Product Description
Zinsser 2976 PaperTiger Scoring Tool for Wallpaper Removal Triple Head
From the Manufacturer
PAPERTIGER Wallcovering Scoring Tool perforates waterproof wallcoverings so remover solution can penetrate and resolubilize paste. PAPERTIGER's patented scoring disks open surface holes to let DIF penetrate and attack the paste. In 1985, Zinsser introduced a tool that answered the need for a better way to perforate waterproof wallcoverings. This wallcovering tool, called PAPERTIGER, was as revolutionary an advance in its field as DIF was in remover solutions. With PAPERTIGER, scoring became faster, easier and safer for both worker and wall.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 24, 2012I had been using the 'regular', single head Zinsser Paper Tiger scoring tool to help in removing wallpaper from a living room; plus I've used it plenty in the past. It always left me so tired, as the effort needed to make enough 'holes' in the wallpaper meant quite a workout for both arms. I kept thinking, there had to be an easier way!
Did a bit of research and that's when I discovered Zinsser had the Triple Head Paper Tiger scoring tool, for sale through Amazon; so I ordered it. Put it to work right after receiving it, to score more wallpaper.
Oh my goodness! It was a HUGE improvement, in my opinion. I could score a large area of wallpaper without getting tired, as it covered so much more area with each pass, so to speak. I already knew to keep the pressure light and steady, so have never had any issues with harming the drywall.
By the way, I realize there are different kinds of wallpaper, and some come off easier than others. Mine is from the late 70's or early 80's, and after some trial and error, this method worked best for me: I used a clean paint brush to apply hot water to the top layer, quickly followed with some DIF gel wallpaper remover, applied with a small foam roller (DIF alone didn't seem to work that well). After waiting about 15 minutes, I could usually get off most or all of the top layer.
Then I applied a bit more water to the under layer, and carefully scraped it all off. For me, a Zinsser scraper has never worked well; always felt awkward. However, I have great results with a small flexible putty knife, works great.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 23, 2020I needed a tool to perforate wallpaper that we were removing. I read the reviews before ordering, and ordered with some trepidation. Some of the reviews said it was junk, it broke, one said if you order one you better order 5, etc., etc.
We were removing wallpaper from a room that was 12 ft. X 18ft.
In my experience this tool worked well. It did not perforate the wallpaper deep enough so as to damage the drywall underneath, which was my main concern. It perforated the wallpaper enough so that whatever wetting agent you decided to use went through the perforations to easily remove the wallpaper.
Personally, I had never removed wallpaper before. This was a first for me, and I was not looking forward to this job.
I think maybe the people who used the Paper Tiger tool may have been pressing too hard on the walls, causing it to break. You only need LIGHT pressure; back and forth and circular motions to allow the wheels to roll along the wall and do its job! It doesn’t take long to do a whole room either, maybe 30 - 45 minutes.
I would recommend this product.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 25, 2022Works well, but not in tight spaces or at edges like against ceilings, baseboards and corners. One of the wheel caps fell off almost immediately, so far it doesn’t seem to affect the way it works.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 11, 2024I was trying to remove a wallpaper boarder at the top of the ceiling. This tool was almost too big for the area. I would say it is made more for a whole wall of wallpaper. Also it made marks in the drywall so I stopped using it. I didn't want to have to patch the drywall all the way around the ceiling. If you are looking to remove boarder wallpaper, a steamer is your best option.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 1, 2024I was very careful to use LIGHT pressure on this tool, just enough to puncture the paper. However, it is so flimsy and poorly constructed that the wheels do not pivot while trying to change directions and got bound up. This resulted in 3 of the 6 cutting wheels popping off. For the 90 seconds it stayed together, it worked well. If they would just build it a better it would be a good tool.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 10, 2014The picture shown does not reflect the actual product. The actual product is bigger and has three heads. It is very easy to use and very effective. I have used smaller scoring tools before but this blew them out of the water. It was so quick and even let me get close to the ceiling and to moldings. My experience has been that the walls always need some repair prior to painting so a few small areas where I pushed a bit hard are not a big deal to either mud over or simply cover with a good primer. This is now the 6th room of our house to be dewallpapered and so far the easiest.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 14, 2023Great tool for removing wallpaper - simply make circles on wallpaper with light pressure (don’t press hard) - the tighter the circles the smaller the pieces of wallpaper that come off! - then use a paint roller soaked with water to roll the walls (contractor uncle told me this trick( — once wallpaper turns colors - maybe 3-5 min (means the water has soaked through) and then you can use a small scrapping tool (don’t use the big heavy duty ones it will ruin your walls). Just use the ones that are like 1-2 inches wide — paper comes right off! Rewet with roller for places that dry or need more water. Tada! I did the whole kitchen in 2 hours this way.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfora bien sin dañar
Funciona fácilmente. Perfora el tapiz y no daña la pared. No se necesita ejercer fuerza.

5.0 out of 5 stars Speeds up wallpaper stripping about 50% versus a steamer alone.
Lots of people reporting this breaking, but I had no issues. Yes, it's a bit flimsy, and I pressed fairly hard, but no issues. Also had no issues with it marking the walls - again probably a symptom of some people pressing too hard. Having done a fair bit of wallpaper stripping before purchasing this, I would say it speeds up the process by about 50% when used with a steamer. It's a lifesaver particularly for tough sections e.g. painted over paper or woodchip, it's also pretty quick and easy to use. Protip: Run the steamer ahead of the paper tiger to soften it up a bit, the device then cuts through the paper much easier.

4.0 out of 5 stars Does the job but requires the right touch
Does what it is advertised to do by scoring holes in wallpaper to aid removal. It does require just the right amount of pressure as too much could easily damage the unit I feel, and as suggested by others. Like any cutting tool, let the tool do the work and take your time. Light pressure but even pressure will get the job done. Depending on your wallpaper, you may need to put more scoring holes in it to aid removal.
Would be better if the bearings and swivel points where stronger metal, as it is fairly highly priced for what it is, and the largely plastic construction.

1.0 out of 5 stars Qualität mangelhaft

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent tool for the job
This wallpaper remover tool exceeds the others. Very easy to use but must be careful as the rotary cutting bits are very sharp.
