Chrome Dipped

From the consistently thriving punk scene of Melbourne comes Civic, a snarling five-piece in the tradition of the Dead Boys with heaps of energy and an unfussy pub rock backbone. The group built their name on a well-received trio of EPs in the late 2010s before delivering Future Forecast, their full-length debut, in 2021.

Members Jim McCullough, Darcy Grigg, Lewis Hodgson, Roland Hlavka, and David Forcier formed Civic in 2017 with the aim of making no-nonsense rock & roll that harkened back to raw '70s punk, pub rock, and power pop. Recorded and released by Billy Gardener and his Anti-Fade label, 2018's New Vietnam EP earned Civic plenty of early praise, and they followed it up later that year with another EP, Those Who No. A third EP, Selling, Sucking, Blackmail, Bribes, arrived in 2019, and after switching to King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard's Flightless label, the band issued their first full-length effort, Future Forecast, in March 2021. ~ Timothy Monger
