- Reviewed in the United States on April 2, 2023Flavor Name: OriginalVerified PurchaseEDIT: I’m changing my rating from 1 star to 5. The company reached out to me and offered a replacement shipped directly from their warehouse. They also offered to send me a scent insert that will help with the smell, it lasts 3-4 bottles. If you are having a problem with the smell reach out to the company! I still give the supplement itself 5 stars. I found out I’m having twins so I’m super glad I switched to these from a gummy to give my babies and body the nutrients it needs. I haven’t had any problems with them making me nauseous. I’m now in my second trimester and the smell isn’t as bad.
I give the supplement itself 5 stars, it has the amount of nutrients I was looking for. The quality control gets zero stars. A lot of the pills are poorly filled, I would say about half are only 3/4 full, the rest are either all the way full or less than half full. For $60 I expected better.
The amount of pills doesn’t bother me. There are 8 in a serving because of the amount of nutrients in them. You can’t fit that amount into 1 pill so it won’t be a “one a day” type of prenatal. If you want to take less pills you will have to get a prenatal with less nutrients.
The smell is pretty bad but so far I haven’t had a problem taking them. To me it smells like rotten protein powder or sometimes an old pee diaper.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 9, 2025Flavor Name: Citrus InsertVerified Purchase**EDIT** Needed has issued a replacement package with no further questions asked. Hoping the last batch was a fluke.
I have been taking these for months and really like them. My hair and nails noticeably grow faster since I've been taking these, and multiple people have asked if I've changed my skincare routine since I started them (I haven't).
I did get one batch that smelled terrible but the rest were fine. The most recent refill I got however made me physically ill. Terrible stomach cramping and bloating for days - the final day I started running a low grade fever. Took me 6 days to figure out it was these Needed supplements that were making me sick (I started having pain the day I opened a new bottle). When I stopped taking them I started feeling relief in 6 hours and 12 hours later I was feeling normal again. I have reached out to Needed about it and they have sent a replacement bottle no questions asked.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 5, 2025Flavor Name: OriginalVerified PurchaseUpdate: Needed reached out and offered a full refund and are sending their essential prenatal for me to try. That is top notch customer service! Hoping the Essentials capsules smell better 🤞
Love the ingredients and the high quality of nutrients, but the smell is so horrible! Makes me wonder if these are actual needed capsules and also how these are stored at the Amazon warehouse. Perhaps that’s the issue?
The smell is terrible and lingers for such a long time. Definitely not what you want to experience while pregnant. Even my husband can’t stomach the smell. Says it smells like cat pee. I don’t disagree
- Reviewed in the United States on October 30, 2024Flavor Name: OriginalVerified PurchaseI won't buy another prenatal. These have every nutrient you need while being mindful of sourcing and packaging. Yes, it is 8 pills. Yes, there is no iron in these. Yes, they do sometimes smell. But knowing I am getting so many needed nutrients to support my health and fertility make these 1000% worth it in my book. Subscribe and save, buy on sale, whatever it is--stock up on these! My only complaint is I'm unable to put them in pill boxes because they are exposed to too much air causing them to smell even worse. I emailed Needed and they said this happens when exposed to air / moisture. I keep a bottle on both floors of my house to ensure I take them throughout the day with my meals.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 18, 2025Flavor Name: OriginalVerified PurchaseThese vitamins are absolutely incredible in terms of what they have in them and their completeness for a prenatal. However, they actually make my morning sickness/nausea worse. I am trying to finish the bottle, but I literally have to plug my nose and have some kind of flavored drink with me in addition to bread in order to keep these down. The smell will linger in the room so I keep these sealed in a ziploc bag downstairs in the kitchen. My husband made a comment they were smelling up our bedroom!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 14, 2025Flavor Name: OriginalVerified PurchaseI was recommended this brand by the functional nutrition practitioner I work with. So so glad I listened. The first prenatal I tried was great quality but I noticed when I switched to this my extreme morning sickness drastically improved. Love how the does is split into multiple pills so I can split up the dose and not take the full dose. Easily swallowed pills, unlike some of the giant horse pills some prenatals are. No weird after taste.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 22, 2025Flavor Name: Citrus InsertVerified PurchaseGreat formula, horrible taste and smell. I thought because I have had zero vomiting and only mild nausea during the first few weeks of pregnancy that I could tolerate these. I was wrong. Gagging due to the rotten egg mixed with orange taste and smell every time I take them. I do 1 or 2 pills at once, all in a row for the full serving to get it over with. They also cause burping after. DHA fish oil burp and iron pill taste have nothing on the misery of taking these bad boys. Taking with food does not make it easier enough to justify buying them again.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 4, 2025Flavor Name: Citrus InsertVerified PurchaseThe citrus smells better than the unscented option. These do not make me nauseous and they are the most effective prenatal multivitamins I have tried so far. Worth the money.
