They have a lock that keeps them from opening up while in your nail bag, which I thought was pretty nice. They make putting champher edge on a lot quicker and easier than it is without them.     It works fine especially for 1/2" PVC quarter rounds since saws tend to melt pvc even with a swift cut. Wood quarter round split sometimes because of the pressure. It works better with PVC. I have only used it for quarter rounds and the concept is nice for accurate cuts.
