I am a classic overthinker, so I've been researching a steam cleaner for a couple years now. I already had a steam mop that works great, but I wanted a steam cleaner that could be used for other areas. Real talk: I wanted it mainly for the bathroom. I live in a house full of boys. Very tall boys, aiming at a relatively small area far below. I don't want to be indelicate—turn away now if you have a weak stomach!—but I need something to blast pee out of those toilet hinges. I clean the bathroom three times every week (like I said, boys, and I have just one bathroom), but the smell still lingered, and I was positive the problem was those hinges. Let me tell you, sister: as soon as I opened the box... well, I'm getting ahead of myself. Let's start at the beginning. The Neat steamer is a small cube, very minimalist and, well, neat. The 16-foot-long cord (that's long, you guys!) wraps around its holder hidden from view on the bottom of the unit. I worried that I would have to wait to wrap the cord and put the cleaner away until it cooled off and was emptied, but no, I have flipped the cube over while still hot and full with no problems. The carrying handle is recessed into the top of the cube, and yes, it's light enough to actually carry around, but you likely won't need to. It also has casters that roll very well on my hard floors and a berber carpet. And the accessories! My goodness, so many accessories. I thought I really only wanted and needed the nozzle to concentrate the steam, but I'm finding I'm using all of them. I love the nylon brushes for my grout. I also used them for my cabinet doors and the grubby corners a kid grabs to keep himself upright as he barrels around the house at breakneck speed. The window squeegee makes quick work of the gazillion dog-nose smudges (but put a towel down at the bottom to catch all the water that will drip down). If your windows are particularly tall, using one or both of the included extension wand sections really increase your reach. My couch cushions (again, look away, you with weak stomachs) were beginning to take on a slight boy-butt odor, with maybe a suggestion of boy feet, after several weekends-long marathon group gaming sessions... the corner tool with the included bonnet took care of that quickly. I *think* I could do it even faster using the floor tool and a cloth. Speaking of the floor tool, I thought I would not use it, since I have a perfectly wonderful steam mop already, but I was wrong. I love that I can use the included microfiber mop cloths or *any* cloth I want, simply by clipping it on. Perfect! And the steam from the Neat doesn't reach the same temperature as my steam mop does, which sounds like a downside, but what I had not realized before I bought the steam mop was that the super-high-temp steam would ruin the finish on my vinyl flooring. Had I bought the Neat years ago, my vinyl would still be shiny, so let that be a cautionary tale for you. But back to the bathroom. I believe it would be worth the cost of the Neat steamer for the bathroom alone. Because of the timing of the delivery, I used it just *after* I'd cleaned the bathroom (and I should tell you, I am a very thorough cleaner). Yup, those toilet seat hinges were the problem. I used the nozzle to concentrate the steam, and it blew through those hinges and allowed me to wipe up the offending particles with a paper towel. While I was there, I went ahead and used one of the nylon brushes to clean the edges where the tub trim meets the floor and gave the tops of the baseboards a good wipe, too. I hadn't thought of it until just that moment, but I steamed the inside of the wastebasket. It looked clean beforehand, but I like the idea that I killed any germs that may have been lingering. One thing in the bathroom that I always seem to forget is cleaning the lightbulbs. Dust and hair (how the heck does dog hair keep getting into a room the dogs are not allowed to enter??) and the steam that results from long showers combine to leave an almost concrete-like substance on baseboards, tops of medicine cabinets and window trim, etc., and on the lightbulbs. It was amazing how quickly the steam melted it right off those neglected bulbs. Maybe the best feature of all is the trigger lock. My hands would be stiff claws if I had to keep the trigger squeezed the entire time I was cleaning! For quick jobs, I just pull the trigger and let it go, but for longer tasks like mopping the floor, the trigger lock is invaluable. I have very few complaints, and they aren't even really complaints. In my extensive research, I saw several people complain that some water shoots out before the steam begins. Yes, there will likely be some water in your hose or attachment that will come out ahead of the steam, but since you know it'll happen, it's a problem easily solved by starting with the nozzle pointed into the sink or even just at a cloth or towel. One valid point I'd seen made and have observed myself is that there is no water level indicator. When you're out of water, the steam stops with no warning. It's a slight annoyance to have to fill the reservoir and wait the 5 or 8 minutes for it to heat and pressure to build, but it's not an insurmountable problem. I would have like to have an accessories storage included, but I just slide the cardboard box they came in into the closet beside the Neat unit (you can see in the picture how this fits even in my ancient house's tiny linen closet). Which brings up my last "complaint": the hose does not detach from the unit, and there is no "holster" for storing the hose. Again, not a deal breaker. I just coil the hose and hope for the best. In summary, I highly recommend the Dupray Neat steam cleaner.
