About the Author

STEPHEN SHASKAN has written and illustrated a dozen children's books in addition to his successful Pizza and Taco series. His debut picture book, A Dog Is a Dog, was a New York Public Library 100 Titles for Reading and Sharing Selection and was a CCBC Choices Book. He holds a BFA in illustration from Rhode Island School of Design, and worked with kids for twenty years as an early childhood educator and an after-school and summer art teacher. He performs musical storytimes, presents at schools, conferences, and festivals, and teaches comic classes to kids. Stephen lives with--and often collaborates with--his wife, author Trisha Speed Shaskan, in Minneapolis.

Stephen Shaskan is the author and illustrator of several picture books including: BIG CHOO, TOAD ON THE ROAD, MAX SPEED, THE THREE TRICERATOPS TUFF, A DOG IS A DOG, and the graphic novel series PIZZA AND TACO. He is also the illustrator of the picture book PUNK SKUNKS and the graphic novel series Q AND RAY, both written by his wife Trisha Speed Shaskan. Stephen and Trisha live in Minneapolis, Minnesota and love traveling around to schools and libraries reading their stories and inspiring young authors/illustrators.

My son loves graphic novels, and this is one he picks up often even though he probably knows it by memory. I love to see him laughing out loud while reading it. If you're trying to get your young reader to enjoy reading more, start with graphic novels, specially this one!

    My daughter is 7 and was not feeling confident in her reading abilities. This book is easy enough for her to build up her confidence. Most words are fairly easy with a few bigger words thrown in. I can tell she also likes how there are not too many words on each page and that they use chapters which gives her a sense of achievement. On top of that the stories are pretty fun.
