After Oxpecker flits by showing off the flower that they received from their boyfriend, Jim can't help but see couples showing love all over the place. They're gazing into each other's eyes, slow dancing…and even kissing. Gross! Wanting someone to agree with him, Jim wanders over to his friend Norman's branch. But, as expected, Norman disagrees. He shares his view that Valentine's Day is for everyone, including parents, children, and friends. Grumpy Monkey is soon showered with small tokens of love and appreciation by his loved ones. "Maybe Valentine's Day isn't so gross after all, he thought." Except kissing…still gross!     I love this story. My only wish is that they had it as a board book.
    The story is really well written, it’s funny but has a sweet message. As with all the Grumpy monkey books the illustrations/facial expressions are good.
    Story in a nutshell: Jim finds out from a love struck oxpecker what Valentine's day is (she gloats about romance with her boyfriend) Jim sees all these couples doing gross things (cuddling, dancing and then kissing!) He is not impressed. Then his friends and family show him that there are many types of love (the love you have for friends, parents and parents for their kids) He feels loved and happy. He decides Valentine’s Day isn’t so bad… but still thinks the kissing is ‘grooossssss’
    I like this book because I’m not a huge fan of Valentine’s Day as it seems like a money grab, but this brought the day into new light.
