I don't see any "odd" finish (glaze?) on the dishes that others have mentioned. Spent hours looking for ring holders and didn't even think about using just dishes, not one of the holders with more items attached to them (like cats, dogs, fingers, plants, etc.) -- till I saw these. I like the simplicity of the dishes. The colors are nice though I may swap them with the darker one toward the front and the other toward the back. Arrived in perfect condition. UPDATE: Change of plans. I decided the Echo Pop speaker's teal color doesn't go with the darker plate, so I put the speaker under the shelf that holds my eye glasses (see photo). Now it's mostly out of sight. I also swapped the position of the plates, putting the light colored one behind the dark one. UPDATE:
