Pretty good workout - heavy duty little machine
This stair stepper comes with the device itself, fully assembled, two rubber elastic strength bands with carabiner clips on one end and a handle on the other and a nonslip pad to put underneath. It also includes a small wrench, hex key, and bottle of oil for maintenance. The stepper has a small LCD which will count the number of steps you have taken up to 9999. On the side of the stepper is a knob for adjusting the resistance. If I adjusted it to the hardest resistance I could not budge it (I weigh 170 lbs). I found the resistance bands to be a good length for me and I am 5'6". Overall first impressions are that this is pretty well made. However, that said - the play in taking a step is much smaller than say going up stairs. However, its pretty quick that you start feeling it in your legs and adding in arm pulls at the same time, this gives you a good workout. The downsides I see are that the machine does creak a bit as you use it and the manual says to just 'adjust your step' so you don't have the bottom of the foot pedal hit the base, which seems sort of annoying that you have to be careful not to do that, though it wasn't terribly hard to keep that in mind. It's also worth noting. With the heavy duty construction, this thing is heavy. It's small enough to fit under a bed or get tucked away, but its not going to be easy to just yank it out. For a young fit person it would be no problem, but heavy enough to be annoying. The non-slip pad is just big enough for the machine to fit on, but I didn't feel it slip at all when I used it without the pad. Overall, not a bad way to get some strength training in while watching TV, etc. without taking up too much space in your house.     This step machine is very easy to get working. There's not really any parts to put together, and its ready to go out of the box.

    The machine is fairly simple in construction. It's basically two hydraulic pistons attached to the steps with a resistance knob to regulate the fluid flow. I imagine fluid transfers from one piston to the other with every step. The knob would decrease the amount of fluid able to move from one side to the other. This takes a considerable amount of work to do, and naturally heats up the pistons as you work out.

    At it's highest resistance, my wife of 145lbs can put all her weight on the steps and they won't budge. She liked the setting around half way. At the lowest resistance, my daughter of 60lbs can work the steps at a good pace. For myself (185lbs), I'm comfortable around the 3/4 mark.

    The machine counts the steps and gives an estimated number of calories burned. I doubt the machine knows what resistance level it's set at, which would affect the calories burned. I wouldn't count on the calorie counter for this machine.

    There's two resistance bands included. These attach to rings on the steps. They're too light for me to use, but my wife finds them to be useful.

    The machine is very quiet, the only sound is a click at the end of the step travel. I can't imagine that to be too irritating, most other noise would easily drown this out.

    I do wish the machine had a bit more travel. This would allow it to give even tougher workouts.

    Overall, I'm very happy with this machine. I can see myself using it as a part of my (and our) workout routines. It stores away nicely because of its small footprint. It's also light and easily manageable which helps ensure that it gets used.

    For the days I can;t make it outdoors and especially in the hotter months this is perfect and can get my steps in while watching my favorite sports or shows without leaving the comforts of my home. Has helped to build ankle and calf muscles as well and love that it has a digital counter for not just steps but how how long I’ve been stepping makes extending my goals a lot better.

    I got this stepper because I was getting bored with my regular stepper and somehow this one is way more fun with the twisty action! It's very sturdy- and I love the red steps and the grips. It's adjustable and quiet and definitely gives me a decent workout pretty quickly. The resistance bands leave something to be desired like all of them do because I'm short and there's no good way of adjusting them so I just leave them off and find other solutions. I haven't used it for a very long period of time yet- my young kids will inevitably need me every 5-10 minutes but this is a great way to sneak in a workout randomly throughout the day.

    Seems solidly built. Very simple design and about as small as you could make it. The angle of your feet with this unit is not exactly straight up and down but angled to the side slightly. Once you are on it, it all feels perfectly fine. The first step is a bit weird though due to that little angle. It makes no noise when in use. The height is about 1/2 of a normal stair step so the range of motion is a bit limited. However, I do see where it can be of use for those who are "working up" to a more robust workout. It is easy on the knees and very smooth.
