Royal Holiday
Audible Audiobook
– Unabridged
From the New York Times best-selling author of The Proposal and a "rising star in the romance genre" (Entertainment Weekly) comes a dazzling new novel about a spontaneous holiday vacation that turns into an unforgettable romance.
Vivian Forest has been out of the country a grand total of one time, so when she gets the chance to tag along on her daughter Maddie’s work trip to England to style a royal family member, she can’t refuse. She’s excited to spend the holidays taking in the magnificent British sights, but what she doesn’t expect is to become instantly attracted to a certain private secretary, his charming accent, and unyielding formality.
Malcolm Hudson has worked for the Queen for years and has never given a personal, private tour - until now. He is intrigued by Vivian the moment he meets her and finds himself making excuses just to spend time with her. When flirtatious banter turns into a kiss under the mistletoe, things snowball into a full-on fling.
Despite a ticking timer on their holiday romance, they are completely fine with ending their short, steamy affair come New Year’s Day...or are they?

- Reviewed in the United States on February 25, 2024Similar to "How Stella got her grove back". It was a delightful and effortless read that touched upon the vulnerabilities of being a single mother who is dating discreetly without revealing her daughter's existence. The story also emphasized on the importance of having a supportive and respectful adult daughter who desires nothing but happiness for her mother. Moreover, it showcased the dilemma of choosing between one's personal desires and sacrificing one's personal life in favor of work. I found the book to be quite engaging and thoroughly enjoyed reading it.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 28, 2023Vivian, an older Black woman, is a social worker in Oakland facing a promotion she doesn't want and thus an intriguing life choice. Her daughter, a stylist for royalty, invites Vivian to accompany her to London while she styles a duchess. Vivian never takes vacations, so this is an enjoyable break for her. While on the royal grounds, Vivian meets Malcolm, the Queen's private secretary who is also Black. They hit it off but can they end up together?
Although I wanted to love this book--there aren't enough silver romances, and we should celebrate the few there are--it didn't draw me in emotionally. The one situation I found interesting was when Vivian asks Malcolm probing questions about being a minority in an oh-so-White situation. There was emotional intimacy there, but almost nowhere else. Also, there were 190 uses of the word "laugh" as a dialogue tag. The fact I would even notice this--okay, enough said.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 30, 2019Hmmm... I'm gonna go with a 3.5 here - maybe 3.75? See, I think I really enjoyed the book - it was a bit out of my wheelhouse because of the age of the heroine and hero and thus their stages in life, BUT their story was good and relatable in certain ways. I loved the English royal holiday aspect as well; there were times when it felt like I was in London (and now I totally have plans to go with my mother and daughters). Speaking of which, as I read the book I kept thinking about how much my mother would enjoy it, so I'm actually going to buy a copy for her! All that being said, I think that listening to the audiobook actually dampened the experience - as long as the narrator was speaking with an American accent it was all good, but as soon as she switched to a British accent (particularly a male British accent), it took me totally out of the book. Honestly, what would've taken me a day and half reading traditionally took me over two weeks to listen to, so... Anyway, I did really enjoy Vivian and Malcolm's story and I look forward to Jasmine Guillory's next book. Heck, I may even read this one again (sans audio) and see if my opinion and rating change!

- Reviewed in the United States on December 22, 2020This latest entry in Jasmine Guillory's romantic series was a pure delight and perfect for the final days of this nasty year. I actually started 2020 taking my partner on his first trip to the UK, so this reignited even more special (non-royal) memories for me.
Vivian is a dedicated and experienced social worker that is convinced by her daughter Maddie (from "The Wedding Party") to take a much-needed vacation to Sandringham for a last-minute stylist appt with the Duchess. Even in a year with another amazing season of The Crown, the focus isn't on the royal family.
The focus is squarely on Queen's private secretary Malcolm and his burgeoning relationship with Vivian. I loved that Malcolm made so much effort to please Vivian and broaden her experiences in the UK. He does worry a lot about appearances and propiety: but he's a Brit AND in service.
Vivian is a confident woman that still hasn't learned to embrace her own opportunities for joy. I did appreciate her questioning of the diversity of the Queen's staff, as well as supporting Malcolm's family troubles.
This story had a few more sexy moments than in previous books, but the build is sweet and steamy. Our leads are adorably old-fashioned with communication (postcards!) which leads to a few issues.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 31, 2019I loved this book! Received it on Christmas Eve and finished it last night. One day I even snuck it to work to read lol.
The book called backed to me after finishing each chapter. It was nice to read about people my age finding love and romance without it being pretentious. Several times in the book Vivian asked herself; why did she stop enjoying life??? I've often had those thoughts. When she decided that she was going to live her life for her...I wanted to highlight those words as if I were reading a textbook. Those of us 50 and over sometimes forget that, after all we have to do or having to spend our lives responsible for someone else.
Thank you to Jasmine Guillory for writing something so special for my age group.
I have also read "The Wedding Date" and "The Wedding Party' and enjoyed them both.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful!
The loveliest little snack from the talented Jasmine Guillory. I only wish I’d been able to read it more slowly, so I could spend more time with these characters. What an absolute delight!

Jasmine has done it again. A fun, engaging, light romance and this time set in my home town?!?! Yes.
Plus we have an older female protagonist?! Yes.
And way too many scones?!?! Yes.
Loved it.

Um ótimo livro para se ler no período de festas, mas algo nele não me fez conectar facilmente com a história.

I love this book so much. It's great how I can follow the main characters and their love stories! I read it in two days because it was to hard to put it away!
