Persuasion: A Jane Austen's Classic Novel (200th Anniversary Collection Edition) Paperback – April 21, 2021
Purchase options and add-ons
“You pierce my soul. I am half agony, half hope...I have loved none but you.” ― Jane Austen, Persuasion
Persuasion is the last novel fully completed by Jane Austen. It was published at the end of 1817, six months after her death. Persuasion has been the subject of several adaptations, including four made-for-television adaptation, theatre productions, radio broadcasts, and other literary works.
The story concerns Anne Elliot, a young Englishwoman of twenty-seven years, whose family moves to lower their expenses and reduce their debt by renting their home to an Admiral and his wife. The wife's brother, Navy Captain Frederick Wentworth, was engaged to Anne in 1806, but the engagement was broken when Anne was "persuaded" by her friends and family to end their relationship. Anne and Captain Wentworth, both single and unattached, meet again after a seven-year separation, setting the scene for many humorous encounters as well as a second, well-considered chance at love and marriage for Anne in her second "bloom".
The novel was well-received in the early 19th century, but its greater fame came later in the century and continued into the 20th and 21st centuries. Much scholarly debate on Austen's work has since been published. Anne Elliot is noteworthy among Austen's heroines for her relative maturity. As Persuasion was Austen's last completed work, it is accepted as her most maturely written novel, showing a refinement of literary conception indicative of a woman approaching forty years
age. Her use of free indirect discourse in narrative was in full evidence by 1816.

About the author

Jane Austen was born on December 16, 1775 at Steventon near Basingstoke, the seventh child of the rector of the parish. She lived with her family at Steventon until they moved to Bath when her father retired in 1801. After his death in 1805, she moved around with her mother; in 1809, they settled in Chawton, near Alton, Hampshire. Here she remained, except for a few visits to London, until in May 1817 she moved to Winchester to be near her doctor. There she died on July 18, 1817. As a girl Jane Austen wrote stories, including burlesques of popular romances. Her works were only published after much revision, four novels being published in her lifetime. These are Sense and Sensibility (1811), Pride and Prejudice (1813), Mansfield Park (1814) and Emma(1816). Two other novels, Northanger Abbey and Persuasion, were published posthumously in 1818 with a biographical notice by her brother, Henry Austen, the first formal announcement of her authorship. Persuasion was written in a race against failing health in 1815-16. She also left two earlier compositions, a short epistolary novel, Lady Susan, and an unfinished novel, The Watsons. At the time of her death, she was working on a new novel, Sanditon, a fragmentary draft of which survives.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 12, 2021I published a one-star review for their copy of Brothers Karamazov, but this printing was perfectly acceptable. Just be careful when you are buying from this company.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 23, 2022Well, what can you say. It’s Jane Austen. Can’t get much better than that.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 26, 2022Recently watched the movie and though it was great i just KNEW the book had to be better. the movie felt like too much was crammed into it and it should have been a 1 season series. My only issue with the book is that its a paperback and was shipped in a bag not a box so it was slightly damaged.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 18, 2022Another great book by Jane Austen
- Reviewed in the United States on August 30, 2021This book is enjoyable light reading...for the beach or just sitting on a shady porch.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 1, 2021It was great to get this excellent book so easily and quickly.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 1, 2022I never read the “look inside” option. I wish I had with this book. Who wrote the beginning information? It’s awful. Before you publish again maybe look up whether a book title is in quotes or italics and then make good choices! I would tell you but I shouldn’t have to. Poorly written background, intro, and the rest leading up to chapter one. And what’s up with the Table of Contents? I feel as if middle school/high school students published this for a class project.
