child using Dolch site/sight word flash cards for pre-k, kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd grade

Sight Words Flashcard Bundle Includes 5 Different Packs With Great Benefits

  • 500+ educational sight words for beginning readers ages 3-9
  • Helps children learn and practice up to 75% of the most common words found in children’s books
  • Curated word list from Dolch and Fry to help prepare students grade levels Pre K through third grade for successful learning
  • Bundle includes 30 teaching techniques and 30 fun, educational games to help your children practice writing, spelling and build sentences. Learners can practice word activities to help their memory skills, key for tests
  • Helps kids build their vocabulary and increase their reading skills by memorizing simple letter-to- sound high-frequency words that do not necessarily follow phonics rules
  • Learning to recognize these words without decoding them increases a child’s reading speed accuracy, fluency, and comprehension
  • Cards are designed to make learning fun for young learners with a non-distracting design and large bold print that helps students automatically recognize words. There are two words per card (front and back) with answers included on the opposite side for quick and easy quizzing
  • Flash cards are made from high quality card stock with a smooth laminated coating and angled edges for easy sorting and handling
  • Comes in a beautiful, sturdy case for safe storage

  • This bundle includes 30 games that encourage learners to get a better understanding of the sight words and how to use them. Games include things like: Complete the Sentence, Create a Sentence, Slapjack, Search the Deck, Word Hunt and more.

  • Cards are coated with a thick, protective layer for durability that repels when in contact with water. This is a cardstock paper product so it’s not totally waterproof, but the coating helps protect the cards if they come in contact with some liquid.

  • The words in our decks were curated from the Dolch and Fry lists. In almost every school, K–2 teachers assign these words for their students to study and learn because they are the most frequently occurring words in children’s texts.

  • These cards do not include pictures because research indicates that most children learn sight words better without using pictures. Although some pictures might be helpful for objects like ""dog", they are confusing for words like "was" or "because".

  • The cards do not have sentences on back. However, they have words on both sides to optimize learning. The packs include games where you encourage learners to make their own sentences with the words.

Great cards
As a special education teacher with a background in literacy coaching, I have to say that Think Tank Scholar's 652 Sight Words/Phonics Flash Cards are a fantastic resource. I purchased these for my first-grade son, who has been facing some challenges with phonics blending. What stands out to me is the accuracy of the words included, aligning perfectly with the list provided by my son's school. The gradual increase in difficulty levels is just what he needed to progress. These flash cards are not only effective but also incredibly well-designed in their simplicity. I also found that they pair well with a phonic letter board. I highly recommend these flash cards for any child struggling with phonics or working to improve their literacy skills. They've made a significant difference for my son.

This has been a great addition to my kids learning that we do during homework time! I love that there are ideas and instructions in different and creative ways to use the cards. The picture quality and color on the cards is very high quality and easy to see and use. The thickness of the cards is about the thickness of a playing card, they are great quality and have been very durable for us this far.

This set of flash cards stands out in a crowded pack of competitors not only because of its ability to help your child look smart in a never-ending pursuit of nothing but your love and acceptance, but also because the colors are quite nice. Nice fonts. For sure.

The cards are sturdy, and even after being smeared with an assortment of craft supplies, the content is still readable, the colors still shimmer with learning, and the fonts are still top notch.

Every evening, when I pick the cards up off the floor, where they inevitably land as my daughter’s younger sibling (that is all I will call him,) tosses them across the living room like rolls of paper towels tossed into a crowd; I close my eyes and think of that moment that will eventually follow the first time my vacant-eyed toddler correctly identifies the word, “ME” in black lettering. It will be that moment when the principle is handing my kid some sort medal for mental strength or whatever, and that principle looks up into the crowd, locks eyes with me, and gives me the slowest, sweetest, head nod ever given, like he knows it was me, my tireless work with Junior McSmartyPants on her flash cards that made it all work out.

And let me stress again, that these cards - their font game is bananas.

    **UPDATE**
I got these cards at the beginning of Jan 2019, we spend about 25 mins in the morning before school, 2 to 4 times a week (depending on the week) to do these sight words. We took a break in the summer, then once school started in Sept, I had to spend couple of weeks refreshing the words. It's now at the beginning of Dec 2019 and my son is done with all the words (done as in all the words from Pre-K to 3rd grade). His reading went from zero to decent, all within one year.

Think Tank, if you are reading this, please note that:
    1) You have the word "Upon" twice, once in the 2nd grade deck and once in the 3rd grade deck.
    2) I would prefer you have the words singular and present tense instead. I already tought my son that if you know the word and it has a "s" at the end, then it's plural and so you need to pronouce the word with the "s," same thing with "ed." I.e. in the 3rd grade deck, you have "minutes" and "covered," making the words singular and present tense such as "minute" and "cover" is just easier and more consistent to teach and learn, at least for my son.
    **UPDATE**

My 5 year old son is in kindergarten, he has not started sight words in his school, they're only doing letter sounds and pronunciation of letter combinations. My wife and I thought the school is a bit lax, so we started making flash cards of sight words ourselves, but it was getting too laborious and since we're not teachers we just couldn't come up with proper categorizations of the level of words. So I said to myself, surely I can buy them and so I started to look for them and came across these.

These words does seem to be one level higher as it is categorized, the Pre-K does seem to fit K and the K seems to fit grade 1; but grade 1, 2 and 3 seems to be at level. This is based on my older son's experience between a mediocre and a good school district.

It took about 6 weeks to teach my son to learn all the Pre-K sight words, (we spend about 25 mins, 2 to 3 days a week in the morning). Moving on to K level, hopefully I can get him to read simple books by the time summer starts.

One interesting thing I had to bring up; Think Tank Scholar if you're reading this, please take note. The words "win/won" and "lose/lost" are not here. These are basic and common words, I just hope the decision not to include these words is not because of reasons like "we don want to make everything about winning." I had to make two flash cards for these two words as they are common words.

I like that it identifies the different grades. It may be a bit advanced, given that some of the pre-k site words are used in my child's kindergarten class, but I'm not considering that a con.

We turned it into a searching game, where I put six cards down and called out the word and my two kids had to slap their hand down on it first to take the card. My preschooler did pretty well on the game as well by being able to identify certain letters (or they're a really good guesser).

I like that this will get us through to 3rd grade!

I am not a fan of the double sized cards because my Kindy kid has a specific range of sight words and some of them are on both side of the cards where-as most are not.
