This heater is really fantastic. It's still too warm to use this heater, so I chilled my relatively large room with the cold aircon for an hour, and then placed this under my work desk. I connected it through a Sanwa Watt meter (also available here on Amazon) to monitor the power usage, and noticed a few things which I'll discuss below. For starters, this heater advertises it only costs 350yen per year but that's a ridiculous claim. I monitored the heater and it draws ~294 Watts from the moment you power it on. It defaults to "high power" and even after setting it to "low power" it still draws that amount, but it seems to PWM the voltage in order to use less power overall (down to 0 for a few minutes and then back up to maximum, and so-on). In "high power" mode it is constantly drawing ~294W so that will surpass 350yen in about 30 hours of use here in Japan after the recent electricity price increase. The heater does not remember settings, so if you power off and back on again, it will return to "high power" mode and the default 3 hour timer will be set. There's no way to disable the timer, it will turn off automatically after either 3, 6, or 9 hours. This is a good safety feature in my opinion. I tested the other safety feature of tilting the heater more than 45 degrees, and indeed it does turn off, but it turns right back on if you place it back up haha. Although the power usage does drop to 0, it seems the heater only goes into "sleep" mode because after placing it back, the previous setting remains (unlike when you really power off). Another safety feature which is a bit overkill but still appreciated, are the plastic feet to hold the heater upright. Without the feet it will still hold up just fine, but the feet add a nice amount of extra stability making it quite difficult to knock over (and it'll probably hold still during an earthquake too). Now the juicy part: does it work? Well, duh! And not just that, it works so well. My legs are nice and comfy as I type this in the un-necessarily aircon chilled room (I'm doing this for you, dear reader). I've previously used ceramic floor heaters (you know those big 1000W things) but they dry the air a bit too much. I've also tried the kotatsu-as-a-work-from-home-desk and it gets too hot and sweaty under there (and I also end up falling asleep on the floor anyways). Of course it definitely beats the heat mode on an aircon (I've always found those useless anyways). I think this kind of heater is just right for a situation where you want to warm up but not sweat or get nose bleeds from dry air. I can't imagine using this in the kitchen while I'm cooking though, it seems like such a ridiculous use-case, why not just wear long pants? However for sitting at a desk or on the sofa watching the game, this is it right here. I think the best feature of this heater is that you can accidentally nudge it with your legs without burning yourself. You can fold it up and put it away safely when you're done and it barely takes up any space. I think it works best with a top cover though, since the idea is to heat yourself and not a whole room (don't let the hot air escape), so if you're in an open space then the included microfiber blanket covering the top of the heater will be very useful (almost like a kotatsu minus the table space to eat mikans). The anti-chew cord is really just a plastic sleeve on top of the power cable, and it doesn't even cover the entire cable (as show in my photos) so that's something to beware of if you have pets or kids who like chewing on cables (my toddler doesn't, thankfully). Regarding kids, I think it's probably better to keep this away from young babies and toddlers, since the remote/buttons controller part gets a bit hot to touch. Even on "low power" I measured 40°C (also show in my photos) which I think is a bit much for smaller kids. I also wouldn't want my toddler fiddling with the buttons (he loves buttons) and running up my already too expensive electricity bill. The included instruction manual is Japanese-only, but it is very good, very detailed and quite useful and professional. It is the type of manual you get when you buy a product from Sharp or Panasonic (yes, with 10000 pages of warnings hahahaaa), clearly a lot of effort went into it. Overall I have nothing bad to say about this. The marketing photos are a bit misleading and it's definitely not going to be "cheap" to use daily for multiple hours, although it will be cheaper than other options. The safety features, ease of use, and comfort compared to other types of heaters is just right in my opinion and I would definitely recommend this for those in the market for a better personal heating solution.
