Amateur woodworker here. These pocket hole screws are a nice quick way to join some boards together whilest keeping things out of sight. Coupled with the plugs Kreg also sells, a good way to save some time on a project. Reading around, these are probably not the strongest solution for joining some boards together, but it is probably one of the quickest. For me, I just didn't have the time (nor the tools) for intricate dowel joints, mortise and tenon, etc... So, if you're looking for just a quick and easy way to make something you can be proud of, these aren't a bad way to go.
