    The Mary Poppins books are eccentric, and not necessarily in a good way. It's one of the few times I would say that Disney improved a book. The problem with the books is that Mary Poppins has the fae quality about her, but it doesn't work as beautifully as real fairy stories. Disney tackled that problem by making her more endearing and adding comedy and songs, so that the musical, loosely based on the book, is much loved by people who enjoy musicals. Mrs. Piggle Wiggle works better for eccentric nanny-type stories (although she is not actually a nanny, just someone who corrects bad behavior in children)
