- Reviewed in the United States on January 13, 2019My goal was to find a set of headphones that had great sound but did not cost $250.00 or more. The noise cancellation feature was of secondary importance to me because I use the headphones in the house 99% of the time. I fly occasionally but not enough to require the best noise cancellation in the world. After reading too many reviews I decided to try the Tribit X Free model, mainly because of the positive reviews. I found out quickly that when I tried to pair the headphones the purple light would simply stay on but the headphones would not pair or connect, so I sent them back and asked for a replacement. Unfortunately, the second set did the same thing so I gave up and sent them back for a refund. I originally was deciding between the Tribit's and the Mpow's, so I then got a set of Mpow H10's. Although it paired and connected properly it simply didn't sound that great with weak bass and scratchy trebles. Another big issue for me was that whenever I used the noise cancellation feature there was a very noticeable hissing sound. Back I went to researching for a headphone with excellent sound quality. I looked at the reviews for the Plantronics Backbeat Pro 2's and found them to be quite mixed. However, the negative reviews related to poor sound cancellation, and to a comfortable fit. The noise cancellation didn't matter to me so I was only a little concerned about the comfort. Based on the many positive reviews about the sound quality I decided to try them anyhow. I mainly use headphones to listen to Spotify music on my laptop, but when I first used them I found that after playing several songs, the music tracks started skipping badly and the music was inaudible. I contacted Plantronics about the problem and received an interesting response as follows: Thank you for contacting Plantronics Customer Care.
We have received your message and would like to inform you that Our Bluetooth headsets are only designed for smartphones/tablets. They are not specifically optimized to be used directly with a PC or Mac. Pairing your Bluetooth headset with your PC or Mac may sometimes work for audio streaming, but we cannot guarantee the audio quality or how well the headset functions will work.
Wow, that was an interesting response because it was not mentioned in the product description or in any of the reviews on Amazon and other sites. I contacted Plantronics again and they indicated that they have a dongle that is designed to solve that problem. The dongle costs $100.00. I contacted them once again, and without going into detail, they agreed to send me a dongle free of charge. I have mixed feeling about this whole thing, but at least Plantronics went out of their way to fix the problem. Now, as far as the headphones themselves, I only have positive things to say about them. Yes, the noise cancellation is not great, but I find them to very comfortable and can easily wear them for four hours or more with no discomfort. The battery life is phenomenal, as mentioned by other reviewers. The most impressive feature is the sound quality. There is absolutely no comparison to either the Tribit's or the Mpow's. The audiophiles who are reading this will undoubtedly point out that there is no comparison between the Plantronics and a set of headphones that cost $250.00 or more. That's fair, but I don't really care because I am totally satisfied with the sound of the Plantronics. The bass is extremely good, it's not muddy, and it doesn't drown out the mid range and treble sounds. In fact, even though it's somewhat of a cliche, I can honestly say that I hear sounds that I've not heard before. For example, in the past I've never been able to hear the brush sounds on a cymbal or drum whereas I can now. At times, some of the sounds I hear actually startle me because I don't expect them to be so clear. A good example of that is hand clapping in some music.
As a side note, I didn't have any problem with track skipping when I used the headphones with my phone, but I'm still a little confused about the headphones not being designed to use with a laptop. Regardless, I am so satisfied with the sound quality of these headphones that I would buy them again.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 8, 2018I bought this for an upcoming international trip that requires over 20+ hours of flight with 2 layovers. I have made this trip a few times before therefore I have set some criteria on what I expect from a pair of headphones for this trip plus price and value. I am traveling with my wife and small kids. Hence this expensive trip is cost prohibitive on getting high end models from Bose, Sony and alike. It's just like buying a used luxury car with the same or more bells and whistles than a brand new sub-brand automobile.
The buying experience: I purchased this "USED, LIKE-NEW" because it is at least $30+ cheaper than new. I got it within the promised shipping time of about a week with free shipping. I was somewhat unpleasantly surprised that a LIKE-NEW item did not come in a box and owners manual. The headphones was shipped inside the soft Plantronics pouch in a bubble lined plastic envelope with the complete accessories (3.5mm jack and micro usb charger). I did not notice any scratches and cracks. I was at least hoping for a generic shipping box that can protect the battery and electronics in case it was dropped during shipping.
Feel and comfort: Compared to more expensive ANC headphones I tried in store displays, the PLT BBP 2 do feel a bit heavier and bulkier but does have a quality build similar to those models. The weight is evenly distributed around my head and the earcups have just the right snugness around the ears, head and face considering its weight. I wore it for about 4 hours and did not feel any heat and did not sweat at all. I did feel a little pressure on the front of the ears when I was laying down while watching a movie from my bed. Then again I'm not traveling business or first class. If I was, I'm sure I would spend the money on higher end brands. I don't really have, what you might literally say, a standard-sized head. I usually wear wider sunglasses that are often not available off-the-shelf. The BBP2 feel comfortable and secure.I do understand that the dark brown and faux wood fit and finishes are polarizing but I actually think it gives the BBP2 a more sophisticated and unique look.
Controls: The controls were easy to get used to and well placed. The buttons and switches have a solid feel to them. I got used to how they work and where they are placed only within the first 15 mins of use. I like that I get voice feedback from a pleasant AI voice with pairing, volume, and all the other controls. It makes using BBP2 more intuitive and fool-proof in case you accidentally used the wrong control.
Sound quality: True to expert reviews and feedbacks, sound quality and balance are excellent. I don't know if I am just getting older, but extra bass is hurts my ears and even causes headaches especially when combined with high altitude and increased cabin pressure. Tried different music genres (pop, hip-hop, classic rock, jazz, etc.) and I was very happy with the sound quality. I binged watch 4 episodes of Jack Ryan on Amazon last night and the dialogues were crisp and explosive action scenes did not cause fatigue at all. The BBP2 enhances the functionality and music experience with the DTS-X 3D Surround function of my LG phone (G7Qthin) as it produces awesome soundstage effect.
Connectivity: Bluetooth pairing was a breeze and quick. works well with my new LG phone (G7Qthin) as well as Amazon Firestick. I almost forgot that it still work as a "regular" headphone even when the power is turned off if connected using the 3.5mm jack. I specifically wanted a hardwire capable headphone because of the poor quality headphones you get with airlines. I especially like the Hi-Def Quad DAC feature (only for hardwire connection) on my LG phone which gives a more "organic" sound quality that, I feel, enhances the performance of the BBP 2. Bluetooth range of over a 100 ft is more than 3 times most headphones. I left my phone charging in the bedroom and did not loose connection wherever I was in my 2000 sq/ft home. The "pause function" when taking the headphones off my ears worked flawlessly and, to my surprise, works as well when watching a movie. It is a great function when you have to take bathroom break without reaching for the TV remote.
Battery Life: Haven't had the chance to tryout the promised 24 hour battery life but expert reviewers rave it to be accurate. I received the BBP2 with "power level high" according to the voice prompt. After 4 hours, the voice prompt said that it was still at the same level.
Active Noice Cancelling: The reviews were pretty honest to say that the Bose QC2 is the gold standard in ANC. The Plantronics does not pretend it can match Bose but it also does not disappoint. I was in our small bathroom with the tub faucet on full blast with 2 toddlers talking and playing and the ANC made it the most pleasant bath time ever! It failed to drown out about 15% of the "noise" but it was quite acceptable. The ambient microphone feature is a great added feature.
Overall: Whether you purchase it used or new, the PLT BBP2 is an amazing value. It packs a lot of features with great sound quality for less. it's not a low budget level decision but then again you get a lot of bang for the buck! The controls are intuitive coupled with good build quality. It's all about the sound quality and the PLT BBP2 does not disappoint!
Tip: Purchase a hard case for about $13 on amazon to protect your investment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good price, great sound
I purchased the Sony H.ear On 2 (WH-H900N) headphones at the same time as these Plantronics Backbeat Pro 2 headphones, so this review is mostly a comparison between these highly rated headphones and my personal opinions regarding both.
Sony pros:
- Noise cancellation is good
- Adjustments within the app
- Touch controls work well
Sony cons:
- Bass response
- Ambient sound could be better implemented (more on this further down)
- Sound leakage
Plantronics pros:
- Sound (particularly the bass response)
- Controls are easy to master and can be used with gloves on
- Pauses music when taken off or when the "open listening" switch is used
Plantronics cons:
- Volume ring could be easier to locate and feels a little loose/cheap
Overall, the Sony's probably have a better/more traditional look (I got them in the grey colour). However, the Plantronics have definitely grown on me and I think I actually like the look of them better than the Sony headphones now.
I did not like that the Sony headphones had a function where you could put your hand over the right earcup and it would lower the volume of the music and then return the volume once your hand was removed. I would have preferred that the music paused as it does on the Plantronics. This is because, with the volume only lowered, I had to try to listen to the person speaking while also hearing the music at the same time. In addition, it looks kind of silly to be talking to someone while holding your hand over the ear cup of the headphones. I also like the "open listening" switch on the Plantronics better and am surprised at how often I use this feature when talking to people.
The other thing I didn't like about the Sony headphones was that when the ear cup was pressed and released, it made a 'rushing air' sound that I found quite annoying.
The headphones weighed about the same and comfort is about the same with the Plantronics perhaps having a slight edge.
There were three things that ultimately made me keep the Plantronics over the Sony headphones:
First was that the Plantronics sounded way better with bass being way more emphasized without being over done (in my opinion). With the Sony headphones, even with adjusting the EQ through the app, they never sounded as full or as punchy as the Plantronics.
Second was that the Sony headphones leaked A LOT of sound. If I sat beside someone (about 3 feet away), they would be able to clearly hear whatever was playing very clearly even if the volume was only moderate. The Plantronics also leak sound, but no where near the same amount as the Sony headphones.
Third was price. When I bought the headphones, the Sony headphones were a hundred dollars more expensive than the Plantronics. Given that the Sony headphones did not hold any meaningful advantages over the Plantronics, the choice was pretty easy.
Hopefully this review helps anyone who is currently trying to decide between these 2 headphones. The Plantronics are the best pair of headphones that I have purchased and I would highly recommend them to anyone who appreciates good, punchy bass and dynamic (but not too overdone or "boosted") sound overall.

Its awesome! Been using it multiple times. The materials used are sewn meticulously. The bass makes you feel like you’re in a cinema and my ears fit nicely in the cup. Thanks Plantronics!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best after Sony and Bose
Brought this after a lot of research and most of the forums rated his very high and not without a reason
Pros: Premium look and feel, Excellent features (Open mic, ANC, Misic pauses when you take it off etc), superb music quality. People who compare this with Sony and bose, let me remind you this is 80% as good as sony and bose in terms of sound quality and 70% as good as sony and bose in terms of Noise cancellation at less than 50% of their price. Great comfort to wear for long hours. superb battery life. Great bluetooth range
Cons: Just wish that this was foldable. Little bulky to carry when not using.
All in all great value for money. Just go for it if you dont want to spend more than double for Sony or Bose

5.0 out of 5 stars Excelentes en calidad y precio
