- Reviewed in the United States on February 3, 2024I bought this book last year for my 8 and11 year old granddaughters, and I just bought it for my newborn and 2 year old grandsons. I also just read it to their grandpa. All ages thoroughly enjoy it. Bottom line, it doesn't matter your age. The story of Love is expressed joyously throughout the book.
I don't understand why some buyers write about the smaller size of this book. Whose bookshelf doesn't contain books of various sizes? It is adorable, and I would definitely recommend to lovers of words of any age.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 23, 2024Another wonderful story in the Crayon series. My students, first graders, love all the crayon adventures!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 4, 2022Having purchased 2 of these books, one here on Amazon and another at a store, I have encountered the 2 versions of the book. Amazon sent me the one with the brown crayon page as “sweet as chocolate” however I prefer the one with the wording “love sometimes stinks”. I would say that neither diminishes the purpose of the book, to describes what love is like but I personally like the love stinks version; it’s funny and the picture is more consistent with the other pictures which are crayon drawings. The “love is sweet” picture stands out because it’s not a “crayon” drawing, if that makes sense. We gifted a book to preschool teacher for teacher appreciation week and kept one for home.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 12, 2024I have been enchanted with this series since I saw the first one ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’. I have found them delightful books to share with my grandchildren. They are colorful and educational. Each book contains a teaching message. It may be about colors or numbers, perhaps feelings or using your imagination.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 4, 2022is a potentially problematic phrase, but not if you address it as “when you have a tantrum/when you really make me angry, my love doesn’t go away,” so it doesn’t become an excuse for grown-ups abusing kids.
Definitely wonderful. My brother didn’t like that page. I think it’s fine and can even be a good introduction to “but not abuse. Here’s how to identify that,” or “but we left (situation) because that’s a different kind, and you can always tell me when (action) happens, so we can address (issue).”
I had PPD due to spousal abuse and there were a few months of anxiety instead of just “Oh, recovery is here,” since I was also shunned for a year and a half after the birth of my second child by my mother. She wouldn’t take the kids ONCE, then became furious when my therapist said she needed to do it weekly.
That led to an anxiety attack for months. Knowing one child is hated and lied to, and both should have been aborted, in her words. So, this book is a safe place for my kids to discuss/listen to necessary topics I didn’t know I could address until I read this book.
Hang in there, to anyone who can relate.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 10, 2021It's a small, simple book. I liked it but I've never read the other ones. This was perfect for a "Love" book. It's a fancy Valentine's Day card. I just bought it today--and it cost just more than a card--because my little granddaughter read it to me via video chat and I ordered it right then (came tonight). Her book was from the library but the two pages that some reviewers are having a hard time with are purple and brown. As you can see from the photos, those pages have been changed.
I wish I had the other version. I get it; I understand "outside the lines" for purple. I have a friend who may be a distant cousin but she's like a sister to me. I also understand "sometimes love is stinky." Children get mad at parents and vice versa, right? This large card or little book--however one wants to view it--is just a reminder that love is not always perfect joy, joy, happy, happy. But it is still love. I love it!
If the author or illustrator (or someone who doesn't want the version with the original purple or brown), has a copy, please send me that original version! I get it! Thank you!

- Reviewed in the United States on January 18, 2024These books were smaller than expected. They're about the size of my hand. None the less, I love them and they're going to be part of a valentine basket im preparing for my kids. The crayon book arrived pretty dirty on the cover but the inside pages were perfectly fine/clean. Maybe whoever packaged the books just had dirty gloves on or something. No big deal though, came right off with a Lysol wipe. Overall, I recommend! :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than day the crayons quit
The little notes about love were easy enough for a toddler to understand, it’s such a lovely story, I prefer it over the days the crayons quit I guess it’s slightly more meaningful. We had it from the library before purchasing to have in our home.

Love this book. Disappointed with the size, I maybe should have read the size posted. Great addition to the other two.
