- Reviewed in the United States on June 6, 2025Size: 24 OuncesColor: Shy MarshmallowVerified PurchaseI bought the Owala FreeSip Insulated Stainless Steel Water Bottle (24 oz) for my 12-year-old daughter, and it has been a total win. She absolutely loves it, and I do too—for a lot of good reasons. If you’re looking for a high-quality water bottle that actually makes hydration easy and fun (yes, that’s possible), this is the one.
Thoughtful Design & Amazing Sip Options
The feature that really makes this bottle stand out is the FreeSip lid. It has both a built-in straw and a wide-mouth opening, so you can drink two different ways. My daughter loves using the straw when she’s on the go, and when she’s really thirsty or refilling at home, she just tilts it back and chugs like a regular bottle. It’s a small thing, but it makes a big difference in how often she actually uses the bottle. She even mentioned it feels “cooler” to drink from than her old one.
Perfect Size for School and Sports
The 24 oz size is ideal for a kid. It holds enough water to get through most of the school day or a sports practice without being bulky or too heavy. It fits easily into backpack pockets, cup holders, and even the side pouch of her dance bag. She’s taken it to school, dance class, and weekend outings, and it’s always the first thing she grabs when heading out the door.
Keeps Water Cold All Day
This bottle really performs when it comes to insulation. It keeps water cold for hours—literally from morning until late afternoon, even on warm days. My daughter actually gets excited to take a sip and feel how cold the water still is. That’s a big improvement from some of the cheaper plastic bottles we’ve used in the past.
Durable and Kid-Proof
Kids drop things. A lot. This bottle has held up incredibly well. The stainless steel body is sturdy and the powder-coated finish hasn’t chipped, even after being tossed into lockers and dropped a few times. It still looks nearly brand new. The lid closes securely and hasn’t leaked once, even when it’s rolling around in a backpack.
Cute Colors That Kids Love
Owala really nailed it with their color choices. We got the “Shy Marshmallow” (pastel blue and peach), and it’s adorable without being too childish. The color combo is one of my daughter’s favorite things about the bottle—it feels stylish and fun, which means she actually wants to carry it around.
Easy to Clean
The lid design might look complex at first, but it’s surprisingly easy to take apart and clean. We usually rinse it by hand, but the bottle is dishwasher safe on the top rack, which is a huge bonus. There’s no weird plastic smell or funky taste either, which has been an issue with some other bottles we’ve tried.
⸻
Pros:
• Dual-function FreeSip lid (straw + wide-mouth) is super convenient
• Excellent insulation keeps water cold for hours
• Kid-friendly design that’s durable and fits in backpacks/cup holders
• Leak-proof lid means no spills in school bags
• Fun, stylish color combos kids actually like to use
• Dishwasher safe and easy to clean
• Comfortable size and weight for younger users
Cons:
• Lid handle is a bit small for adult hands (not an issue for kids)
• Straw can take a little getting used to at first (minor learning curve)
⸻
Final Thoughts
The Owala FreeSip Water Bottle is one of the best purchases I’ve made for my daughter. She drinks more water without reminders, loves showing it off to friends, and it’s held up to daily use like a champ. Whether it’s for school, sports, or weekend outings, this bottle goes everywhere with her. If you’re looking for something functional, fun, and built to last, this is absolutely worth it. I might even grab one for myself next!

- Reviewed in the United States on June 26, 2025Size: 32 OuncesColor: Foggy TideVerified PurchaseCan't say enough about this water bottle. I tried many before this. Camelbak, Stanley, Yeti, Takeya, and FJ Bottle. The last two were my most recent... the Takeya and FJ Bottle. The Owala is the best of all. Its the best water bottle I've ever used.
-The best feature is the push button open lid that is quiet. The lid stays open due to built in springs.
-2nd best feature is the spout for chugs or sip (via straw). I always chugged with other water bottles but find I use the sip more often with the Owala maybe because the straw diameter is large enough? Its just perfect.
-3rd best feature is the combination of the first two, because it's so easy to pop the lid (you don't have to unscrew) - you can pop the lid and the chug spout is large enough to refill the water bottle at a fountain or faucet without hardly any effort..
- The sip spout with straw is easy to sip - much easier than Camelbak.
- Love the carry handle (comfortable) and the way that it locks the lid and keeps it from accidently opening when in a gym bag or on a car seat etc.
-It keeps drinks ice cold with just a little ice for over a day.
-The size and shape and mechanics of the water bottle are really well thought out. Note: The 32 ounce is a little large in the base to accommodate most vehicle cup holders - it has to go in the door well. But, most people aren't using the 32 ounce for a car cup holder but for the gym. If looking for the car, then go with the 24 oz version.
- Durability? I would give it a A-. I purchased the separate rubber boot piece to protect the bottle and it fell off a kitchen counter and there is a small dent at the top of the bottle just under where the lid is tightened. I don't blame Owala - it fell off a counter onto a hard wood floor. Bottle has character now.
The only criticism I read about is the color combinations of the bottles. Some don't like the multi-color options but they have plenty of solid colors so I'm not sure what the issue is. They have plenty to choose from. I chose the Foggy color but almost chose black. The all white is fairly popular.
Recommendation: Purchase a few favorite vinyl stickers. Why? You will need them to ID your water bottle. It has easily become the most popular water bottle I see at the gym.
Notes on 2 of the competitors:
FJ Bottle - I thought I would really like the extra rope handle it comes with and the magnetic top. It's just ok. I don't use the rope that often and the functionality of the Owala is so much better.
Takeya - the handle is really comfortable. It doesn't look comfortable but it is to carry. The top is not as water tight as it seems. The rubber band at the top of the lid comes off and stretches over time.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 13, 2025Size: 24 OuncesColor: Foggy TideVerified PurchaseI've had this for over a year now and it's definitely the best water bottle ever. It’s insulated, sturdy, secure, attractive, and the free sip + straw design is amazing. I’ve never been a big straw person and previous was using the Thermos Alta water bottle—I loved it at the time and always preferred an open spout to a straw, but I had so many accidents with it popping open in my bag because I often forgot to lock it. Eventually, I lost it and got this one. The Owala locks securely as long as you just put the handle down. Even when I forget to put the handle down, it usually doesn't open because the button takes a bit of force to press. I figured I would primarily use the spout option, but ended up falling in love with the straw. Unlike other options, it doesn’t stick out of the bottle and is super easy to clean. The straw is wide so you can easily suck up a lot of liquid. I wanted a bottle that was attractive for the office and a balance between holding a substantial amount of water and still fitting in my bag and car cupholder. I have the 24 oz version in Foggy Tide, which fits the bill. I find I drink more water using this, so I do have to refill throughout the day, but it’s great. It keeps my water cold and I add 3 big ice cubes in the morning, which last through the day as I refill the water.
Even my 2-year-old LOVES the straw function and it’s easy for her to use. She has her own water bottle with a silicone straw, but always begs for mine instead. I think the 24 oz would be too cumbersome for her to use regularly on her own, but I’m considering getting her a 16 oz kid one since she loves it so much. My only issue is that if she knocks it over, I really don’t want it to spill everywhere. I'm considering the flip, but I wish there was a kid size that had the same exact straw as this without the spout..

5.0 out of 5 stars Favourite Water Bottle!
Size: 32 OuncesColor: Iced BreezeVerified PurchaseThis bottle has genuinely become my most favourite water bottle I've ever owned. Such a cute design (although I can't speak for some of the others... lol), and the handle makes it very comfortable to carry. I love the straw and the fact that you can choose to sip or chug from it! It also keeps water cold for such a long time. Unfortunately, I've dented my bottle already by dropping it (about a metre drop), so it isn't the most dent-proof but you can always get a silicone boot to protect the bottom. After reading some reviews, I was worried that the bottle might come dented, but thankfully it was sent in a padded mailer and in great condition! My Owala literally comes everywhere with me now and I honestly can never go back to my other bottles. Although it may be a bit pricey, it is 100% worth the money as you'll get so much use out of it. Also reminder to take all the silicone bits out and wash them individually to keep everything clean! Definitely recommend this bottle if you haven't bought it already.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy it and don't look back
Size: 32 OuncesColor: Iced BreezeVerified PurchaseEasily the best water bottle I've ever had. Sip and chug function are great and work really well, keeps my water cold for days even in hot weather. My partner loves it so much that I've bought them their own and now the parents-in-law love them too so they'll be getting their own too! Perfect size (though it doesn't fit in a cup holder) and very durable, I've had mine for a year and it's still in perfect condition with no leaking. Well designed and aesthetically pleasing. It did spit water at me once on a plane but that's just due to altitude and pressure - twist the lid open a little to release the pressure and then twist it back on and use as normal to avoid that.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great bottle!
Size: 24 OuncesColor: Iced BreezeVerified PurchaseThe Owala FreeSip Insulated Stainless Steel Water Bottle is hands down one of the best water bottles I've used, and here’s why it’s become a must-have in my daily routine:
What I Loved:
Innovative FreeSip Spout: The standout feature of this water bottle is the FreeSip spout, which gives you two drinking options. You can either sip through the built-in straw or tilt it back to gulp. It’s incredibly convenient whether you’re on the go or need a quick drink during a workout. Having both options in one bottle is a game-changer!
Great Insulation: This bottle keeps my drinks cold for hours. Thanks to the double-wall, vacuum-insulated stainless steel, my water stays ice cold for up to 24 hours, and I’ve even tested it with ice cubes that lasted all day. It’s also great for keeping hot beverages warm for several hours, which makes it super versatile.
Leak-Proof Design: I can toss the Owala in my bag without worrying about leaks. The flip-top lid seals securely, so I never have to deal with any spills or messes, even when it’s full. The lock feature adds an extra layer of security, which I appreciate.
Ergonomic Carry Handle: The built-in carry loop is comfortable and makes it easy to grab the bottle when I’m heading out the door or to the gym. It’s sturdy and practical, especially when your hands are full.
Easy to Clean: Both the lid and straw come apart for easy cleaning, which is a big bonus. I love that I can take everything apart and thoroughly clean it without worrying about lingering bacteria or residue. Plus, it’s dishwasher safe!
Durable and Stylish: The stainless steel build feels incredibly sturdy, and the powder-coated exterior makes it resistant to scratches and dents. The wide range of vibrant colors is another bonus—I picked a bold shade, and it looks fantastic!
What Could Be Improved:
Straw Size: While the straw option is convenient, it’s a bit on the narrow side, which makes drinking thicker beverages like smoothies a bit slower. It works perfectly for water, though!
Size Variety: I’d love to see an even larger version for those super-long days or hikes when I need extra hydration. The current sizes (19 oz, 24 oz, 32 oz) are great, but a bigger option would be ideal for all-day hydration.
Final Thoughts:
The Owala FreeSip Insulated Stainless Steel Water Bottle is an exceptional bottle that’s as functional as it is stylish. The combination of the innovative FreeSip spout, excellent insulation, and leak-proof design make it perfect for any lifestyle, from casual use to workouts. Whether you’re a fan of sipping or gulping, this bottle offers both options, making hydration super convenient and enjoyable. Highly recommend it!
