I love everything about this book, from the beautiful cover (the actual hardback cover, underneath the dust-jacket, looks like a piece of Josh Young’s painted art), the size, which is very substantial as you might expect with a high-end coffee table book (12.25” x 9.5” x 1.125” thick), the exceptional quality, and especially the content…all check the boxes for this rather picky gal. Unlike several of my other design-themed books, this one is a perfect balance between being a feast for the eyes, and thoughtfully written and informative content. Josh really seems to have put his heart and soul into this book and I have been thoroughly indulging in every one of its 256 gorgeous pages. For me, it’s been a much needed escape from the crazy, chaotic world we live in. Bonus: I got to meet and chat with Josh at one of his book signings at a chic little home goods store called MANSE in Georgetown DC, and am happy to report that he is as I had hoped, a truly lovely, unpretentious person. I can honestly say that he deserves all the accolades and successes that are coming his way! If you’re thinking about buying this book for yourself or a friend…WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!

I’ve followed this author for some time on Instagram and was delighted to hear he was writing a book. It’s absolutely beautiful, the photography stunning, as it always is with Rizzoli. On trying to understand why I like Mr Young’s style so much, I realised that whilst his interiors are mostly neutral in design, they’re certainly not minimal. For those of us who love to see the clashing patterns and colour in traditional English design but find it too ‘noisy’ to actually live in, this is the perfect solution. A limited palette but making use of texture and light. Again, it does display the tendency in these books now to look beautiful but I would have liked a little more about the ‘how’. I’ve noticed this more and more; exquisite books but leave you to figure out yourself paint, lighting, fabrics etc. and that’s why four stars rather than five.
