I have used a variant of these before, and I was excited to get a few more to hang up more wall decorations. Pay close attention to the directions. There is a specific way you have to insert these so that the wire on the back side of the wall creates the right amount of tension.
After that is done, you're ready to hang up your decorations. I have used them bare, without the j-hooks. The thumb saver is nice to get the initial hole started. The other brand I purchased didn't have the thumb saver, and it did leave a little soreness and brusing when I was first getting the hole started.
The beauty of these is the tiny hole that they leave. It's really easy to patch up. This is one reason I prefer to use them without the j-hook. The j-hook does tend to leave a few more scuffs when it is installed, creating a larger area that you need to touch up.
