Meet the Inventor

I'm Yair Reiner, founder and CEO of Gowanus Kitchen Lab. I invented Frywall in my kitchen in Brooklyn, NY. I'd always loved cooking but hated cleaning the stovetop afterwards. A particularly splattersome duck breast drove me to find a solution. I made the first Frywall for myself, from a two-part silicone paste bought over the Internet. When I saw how well it worked, I knew I had to share it with others.

Very impressive!
I was skeptical, but this thing is awesome!! The biggest headache of cooking bacon, searing steaks, making hash browns, or anything requiring a bunch of oil in my skillet is the splatter and subsequent cleanup - to the point I’d rather just cook something else. So far I’m very impressed. Nearly no splatter from my bacon or steak escaped the ring in my pictures. The tea kettle is usually covered. Bonus that you can reach in a manipulate food as necessary, unlike with a splatter screen. Also doesn’t actually take up that much space in the dishwasher, in spite of its size, considering you can likely fit other items inside the ring. Ultimately, there’s still a little cleanup needing to be done, but at least I don’t have lakes of splatter oil collected underneath my burners and all over my grates.

    I have no idea why this would be frequently returned. It is awesome!! Even with a metal splatter screen grease would go everywhere. With this doohickey, I have no splatter outside of the collar. The bottom of it does not sit flush with the bottom of your pan (and make sure you measure what size pan you have and order accordingly) The collar sits slightly above the bottom of your pan, maybe 1/2". At first I thought I had received the wrong size, but no, d'oh, I was trying to put it in incorrectly. Best buy ever. Now I can get rid of that worthless splatter screen. I am going to buy the other two sizes, though really, I probably don't need the smallest one. I could reach in to the collar to do whatever needed to be done with whatever I was cooking. Absolutely happy with this product

    A handy little gadget, but it's not perfect. The rubber material becomes more flexible as it heats, and sometimes the upper part of this cone-shaped thing sort of folds in on itself and droops into the pan. Also, it's difficult -- close to impossible -- to lift a pan and swish around its contents while using this. Nonetheless, it does indeed block grease, oil and other stuff from splattering all over the stove, so it makes clean-up much, much easier. If you're on the fence about buying one of these, I'd say it's worth ordering one to see if you like it

It took up too much space in the dishwasher, so we wash it by hand in the sink and let it air dry before storing in the original package in the cookware cabinet.

    We do a lot of cooking with our Sous Vide which leads to a lot of searing on the stove top. My husbands biggest complaint is the splatter all over the stove every time he sears meat. As soon as he said that I remembered seeing the Frywall and ordered it. I was (or thought I was) very careful about measuring our favorite cast iron skillet. Based on my measurements, the 12" frywall was perfect. Turns out my measurements weren't spot on and the 12" frywall was too big. Gowanus Kitchen Lab gives pretty clear directions on how to measure and they are serious when they say 11.8" - 12.5". I did use a tape measure but I guess I eyeballed it too quickly. My 12" cast iron skillet measures 11.7", not big enough. The 12" fits perfectly in our 13" skillet. It was a bit of a bummer that it didn't fit in our favorite skillet but my fault. When the company emailed me and asked what I thought of the frywall I was honest and said I was disappointed it didn't fit in the 12" skillet since I'd been careful about measuring. Boy did these guys blow me away with their greatness. Let's remember, this was my fault but even so they weren't happy that I wasn't totally satisfied. They sent me not one but two additional frywalls in different sizes that now fit all of our skillets. Blown away! I just checked to see what else these guys are selling in hopes that there were other cool kitchen gadgets that I might need. Unfortunately the only thing that currently shows up on Amazon is the Frywall. I will be keeping a close eye to make sure I don't miss anything they may offer in the future. Great quality, great company = my favorite place to shop.

    Oh, the frywall, it seems big but it's great because the funnel at the top is big enough to give you room to work with the food in the skillet without being in the way. It also cleans up super easily and then rolls up for easy storage. Keep the little sleeve it comes in and then just pop it back in that when you want to store it in the cabinet.

    I was not expecting to like this but I tried frying bacon with it and it controlled the amount of grease splattered on the stove. This did not help prevent grease from spilling out of the pan do expect to clean up some grease spots. The cooking area did downsize a bit but the fact that you did not have to scrub the whole stove was a big plus.
