Purchase options and add-ons
Lyla is in a bit of a rut. Her post-doctoral research has fizzled out, she’s pretty sure they won’t extend her contract, and things with her boyfriend, Nico, an aspiring actor, aren’t going great. When the opportunity arises for Nico to join the cast of a new reality TV show, One Perfect Couple, she agrees to try out with him.
A whirlwind audition process later, Lyla finds herself whisked off to a tropical paradise with Nico, boating through the Indian Ocean towards Ever After Island, where the two of them will compete against four other couples—Bayer and Angel, Dan and Santana, Joel and Romi, and Conor and Zana—in order to win a cash prize.
But not long after they arrive on the deserted island, things start to go wrong. After the first challenge leaves everyone rattled and angry, an overnight storm takes matters from bad to worse. Cut off from the mainland by miles of ocean, deprived of their phones, and unable to contact the crew that brought them there, the group must band together for survival. As tensions run high and fresh water runs low, Lyla finds that this game show is all too real—and the stakes are life or death.

- The first couple listed was Conor (31) and Zana (22), and the age gap made me do a double take. Was it weird that a thirty-one-year-old was dating a twenty-two-year-old? Not that much weirder than my four-year age gap with Nico, I guessed. Conor (whose bio said he was a “YouTuber and NFT trader”)Highlighted by 364 Kindle readers

Editorial Reviews
Review
“Ware shifts from romantic satire to adventure novel to psychological thriller with a skill that cannot be denied.” —Wall Street Journal
“Ware once again delivers the literary goods, with a cheeky sense of wit (including a “blink and you’ll miss it” nod to one of her own books), a propulsive sense of pacing, and a fiendishly clever conclusion.” —Library Journal (starred review)
"The ultimate trouble-in-paradise thriller, One Perfect Couple is timely, gripping and all too plausible. The Love Island / Lord of the Flies mash-up you didn’t know you needed."—Erin Kelly, The Sunday Times bestselling author of The Skeleton Key
“A fresh, adrenaline-fueled take on Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None . . . absolutely ingenious . . . Bound to be a top summer 2024 beach read.” —Booklist (starred review)

- Reviewed in the United States on May 1, 2025Seriously...I started and couldn't stop. I read this one in one big gulp...start to finish.
This story was captivating. It kept me turning pages and still carried that enticement thru to the very end.
Great book. Well written. Shockingly good character development. Surprisingly relevant in our current climate - touching on feminism and male domination in a male ruled world.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 3, 2024I liked this book. It definitely keeps you reading throughout, and keeps you guessing until about the 60% mark. If you've read as many of Kindle Unlimited's psychological thrillers as I have, or if you've read other Ruth Ware books, you'll figure out the plotl ine at about that point.
I love me some trash reality TV and I could really do with an island getaway right now, so that was an immediate draw. There are a lot of characters, but they are well written enough to keep everyone straight, and it's the right mix of characters. the behind-the-scenes piece of the reality show filming is true to life from what I know. I kinda want her to write a different book where the storm doesn't happen and we get to see how this reality show would have played out.
The main plot point discussed in the product description, the storm and ensuing fight for survival, is super well written. Man, it was so hard to read. You felt their pain and panic, and accompanying physical / emotional challenges. There was a little bit of who's-the-bad-guy but not much.
About 80% of the way through, it started dragging a little. The main plot points had all been resolved and you saw clearly how the book was going to end. I found myself skipping over a lot of the description to get to the end.
Mild spoilers below
I read and enjoyed The It Girl. I feel like the antagonist in this book was the same antagonist as that book. I feel like it's the same antagonist in a lot of these psychological thrillers I read, enough that I roll my eyes when I realize who it is. I get why they keep rewriting the same villain over and over, but mix it up a little, ya know?

Overall, I recommend this book. And now if you'll excuse me, I've been inspired to go watch Temptation Island or something :-D
- Reviewed in the United States on August 18, 2024I don’t know how to speak of this novel. Some of it was interesting-the premise was great. Couples on a far away island and the interactions that would create drama and continued interest for a TV show.
But the darkness descended and just like in the classic “Lord of the Flies” chaos and madness arrived. Only it didn’t quite grab the reader like the original.
The characters were a bit thin; some of the situations were very contrived. But overall a good read. Again some the extraneous detail…authors paid by the word count!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 19, 2025This book was quite the exciting adventure. The characters were interesting, the plot myzteriois. The.story presented ethical dilemmas that make it a good tool for discussions. The author always writes good stories and this is no exception.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 5, 2025I enjoyed it! It wasn’t anything like I thought it was going to be. It was an interesting spin on what I thought was going to be a reality tv show plot.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 6, 2025This was my first Ruth Ware book and what a treat! Is there anything better for a reader than finding a ‘new to you’ author with lots of books?
- Reviewed in the United States on May 4, 2025this thriller kept my attention and I was so glad the four girls got rescued before anything else bad happened! the author described each character so that you rooted for each even though the characters died in some unusual circumstances. I used to watch Reality TV, but not anymore! So if you are into this kind of TV, then this book is recommended.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 9, 2025This wasn’t for me. As many reviews have noted, this is not a mystery or a thriller. Just barely a commentary on terrible human behavior … 🤷♀️

5.0 out of 5 stars One Perfect book
Another brilliant piece of writing from Ruth Ware. A unique story with interesting characters who are challenged beyond any thing life has thrown at them.
A page turner that will have you cheering (or not) for the couple's to survive.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Gripping Page Turner!
A great summer read which kept me gripped throughout. Lyla is persuaded by her actor boyfriend Nico to enter a new reality TV show, ‘One Perfect Couple’. Ten strangers, five beautiful couples have to survive together on an isolated island, and the last couple standing wins the prize. They are promised lots of sun, sea, laughs and flirting. However, things turn deadly when a tropical storm cuts them off, and tensions within the group increase as fresh water runs low. Lyla then realises that someone in the group is playing this game for real, and will do anything to win. Will all ten people survive to the end? The intriguing storyline had me hooked and the plot twists kept me happily turning the pages. The mix of characters and the building suspense made this a real page turner.
