Works great, but a couple things..
After the first time I used this, I stored it in a drawer unplugged with the spike in the cradle. When I went to use it after sitting for about a month or so, the spike battery was dead. I recharged it and was back up to 100% after about an hour or so…..I guess you have to leave it plugged into the USB charger or remember to take it out well in advance to recharge the spike, I have used this a couple of times now with excellent results, 17lb turkey came out perfect and was set for 165……The ambient temp however appears to be reporting low. I had the oven at 450 for the first hour and it never went over 375. Then turned the oven down to 325 and it reported 285. Sent an email to customer support about the spike battery and have not heard back. Update: Received a response about a week later and they offered some support and a full replacement if needed,

I have some issues cleaning the device, especially on the black end. It's been great for 3 years but it stopped charging to 100%, only to 50% and would discharge in minutes. I wrote TempSpike about the issue and they offered suggestions. When those did not work, they sent me a brand new device at no cost. I had an issue with a wired probe about 5 years ago, wrote them about the issue, and they sent me a new probe then too. The support and customer service is EXCELLENT!!! I have several friends that smoke too and if I haven't already told them about these devices, I sent them as gifts.

    I've been using this Temp Spike for a couple of months now and find it pretty good, except the probe is quite large and it's required to insert it several inches to have it operate properly. The battery usually needs to be recharged prior to use...remember to do that. Also, and a bummer, it won't work in my new Traeger smoker...the Traeger apparently has too thick of a steel surrounding for the Bluetooth signal to penetrate. The Temp Spike works great in the kitchen oven and the app is fairly straightforward. Maybe the newer, more expensive, model is better??? OK, now that I've read the manual I see that you're supposed to place the booster near the TempSpike to increase the Bluetooth signal. I fully charged the spike and booster and it now works in my Traeger. RTFM!

    Update: I was over the moon with this right out the gate. However, after about 3 uses the probe no longer connects with the app. I have tried everything that was listed on the ThermoPro website for problem solving, and called the ThermoPro helpline. I tried to contact them through their online forum, but it appears to be broken. I am at a loss and out $70.

    Original Review: I was honestly thinking that this was going to be too good to be true. It arrived yesterday and I let it charge overnight. Today I set it up, which couldn't have been easier. The directions have a QR code you scan that takes you right to the APP store. Once downloaded the probe paired with the APP immediately and I was off to the races. You insert the probe into your meat up to the indicated line, and then select a meat type from the menu, which sets the target finish temp. You should note that these appear to be USDA recommended temperatures, and not what our OXO thermometer refers to as "Chef Temperatures." We prefer more rare meat, so you also have the option of adding your own profiles with your own finish temperatures, which fixes this problem. The probe was spot on temperature wise (we double checked with an instant read thermometer). The coolest feature was the ambient temperature reading. It helped us better understand how warm our smoker actually was, as the temperature gauge on our smoker isn't very accurate. I also really appreciate how easy it was to clean, and that I didn't have to worry about getting any part of it wet. We were pleased to find that the booster makes noise, as well as your phone, when the meat reaches temperature. We are often going in and out while grilling, and it's nice to have double insurance that we hear the alarm when things are ready to be removed from the grill. The only thing I wasn't thrilled with was the estimated finish temp. It doesn't seem very accurate. Granted, we have only used this once, but we were only cooking simple chicken breast, and without opening the grill the estimated finish time jumped all over the place. By no means a deal breaker, but I just wouldn't count on it. Overall, we were super impressed with this and I can't wait to cook with it again. I would highly recommend!

    I will start with the positives. The app is good, easy to maneuver and user friendly. The range good. If you find that you are getting disconnected make sure that the Booster is near the grill and not inside next to your phone. The temperature is within 2°-3° of any of my other thermometers, I’ll take that. Now for the negatives… I have 4 of these. I bought the first 2 and 2 are replacements from the manufacturer. (I forgot to put that above on the positives…. The customer service was outstanding. But it does not outweigh my negatives.) The first issue I had was #1 would not make the Bluetooth connection. I tried several times eventually with the help of customer service, which led the them sending a new complete unit. Thank You for that! It now connects and I am happy. Now to #2. It connected just fine and seemed to be working properly. The issue came in when the probe battery died about 3 hours into a brisket. Not good. So, again, another call to Customer service and working with them again, they sent a replacement unit. Thanks again! So, now I have 4 TempSpikes, one of which is useless because of the non connecting booster, although the probe still works, kind of. So, following the written instructions and customer supports recommendations on usage and placement of the probe and booster I can not get any more than 5 hours max on any of the probes. I have tried on several styles of grills and smokers, I tried in the oven and lastly I have placed each on the counter not inserted to anything and still the probes are dying at or before the 5 hour mark. Per the specifications the probes are supposed the be good for “48 hours or more”. I would gladly settle for half of that. I don't understand how with over 8000 positive reviews I cant get one to work as advertised. I do a lot of Butts and Briskets and as much as I like the TempSpike and want it to work, I think I’ll have to move on.

    Anyway, I know this was long winded but I wanted to make sure that I explained myself without just leaving a bad review.

    I originally purchased a different meat thermometer which didn't work well at all, so I purchased the Thermopro temp spike, what an amazing product, very user friendly with an app full of features. It can measure the meat temp while cooking as well as the ambient temp of your cooker. On the app it has a start recording button that you press when you start cooking as the meat cooks it records your cook and saves it in the history tab. As you cook you will see a timer that continuously counts down and gives you an approximate time the meat will be cook, this is a game changer, so you can go and prepare what you maybe having with your meat. When the target temp is reached it sounds an alarm so you know when the meat is cooked. The Bluetooth range is very good, if you happen to get to far away it sounds an alarm, so moving back closer reconnects automatically so never a problem. The unit is very well made and I am sure it will last for years to come
