“A hilarious, heartfelt romp of a novel about—what else?—accidental murder and the bond of family. This book had me laughing aloud within its first five pages… Utterly clever, deeply funny, and altogether charming, this book is sure to be one of the best of the year!”—Emily Henry,

What happens when you mix 1 (accidental) murder with 2 thousand wedding guests, and then toss in a possible curse on 3 generations of an immigrant Chinese-Indonesian family?

You get 4 meddling Asian aunties coming to the rescue!

When Meddelin Chan ends up accidentally killing her blind date, her meddlesome mother calls for her even more meddlesome aunties to help get rid of the body. Unfortunately, a dead body proves to be a lot more challenging to dispose of than one might anticipate, especially when it is inadvertently shipped in a cake cooler to the over-the-top billionaire wedding Meddy, her Ma, and aunties are working at an island resort on the California coastline. It's the biggest job yet for the family wedding business
—"Don't leave your big day to chance, leave it to the Chans!"—and nothing, not even an unsavory corpse, will get in the way of her auntie's perfect buttercream flowers.

But things go from inconvenient to downright torturous when Meddy's great college love—and biggest heartbreak—makes a surprise appearance amid the wedding chaos. Is it possible to escape murder charges, charm her ex back into her life,
and pull off a stunning wedding all in one weekend?

Amazon.com Review

An Amazon Best Book of May 2021: It's a tale as old as time: Ancient Chinese curse causes men to leave the Chan women so the family tries to outrun fate by moving to California and setting up a wedding business. But the curse catches up with Meddy Chan. So mama Chan goes online, poses as Meddy, and finds her a man. Mom’s catfish game is a lot stronger than her emoji game though—an exchange involving eggplant gets lost in translation and Meddy finds herself on a blind date with a horny hotelier. The date ends with Meddy bringing him home to mom. But dead, and in the trunk of Meddy’s car. With a huge wedding to pull off at a ritzy California resort that day, this poses the first in a long string of screamingly funny challenges. Turns out though, that the Chan women are alarmingly pragmatic, devilishly inventive, and fiercely protective of one another. With a winning mix of Chinese culture, filial duty, murder, romance, and buttercream frosting, Dial A for Aunties proves one of the most fun reads of the year so far. —Vannessa Cronin, Amazon Book Review

“Jesse Q. Sutanto’s
Dial A for Aunties is a hilarious, heartfelt romp of a novel about—what else?—accidental murder and the bond of family. This book had me laughing aloud within its first five pages, and kept me bouncing between anxiety and delight until its very last. Utterly clever, deeply funny, and altogether charming, this book is sure to be one of the best of the year!”—Emily Henry, New York Times bestselling author of Beach Read

"Sutanto brilliantly infuses comedy and culture into the unpredictable rom-com/murder mystery mashup as Meddy navigates familial duty, possible arrest and a groomzilla. I laughed out loud and you will too.”—
USA Today (four-star review)

"I LOVED it. Whip-smart, original and so funny. I found it impossible to put down and lost count of the number of times I laughed out loud."—Beth O’Leary,
Sunday Times bestselling author of The Switch

"It's a high-wire act of comic timing, misunderstandings, romantic foibles and possibly foiled heists…The glue is Meddeline, endearing, capable and in full thrall to her elders, who are all absolute hoots to keep company with."—
The New York Times Book Review

"If you loved
Crazy Rich Asians and all the comedic family drama, you'll definitely get a kick out of this story."—PopSugar

"Part thriller, part rom-com, Jesse Q. Sutanto's
Dial A for Aunties will give you the good laugh we could all use these days."—Marie Claire

“Comparisons to
Crazy Rich Asians are apt, as the author details the wild spending and luxurious lifestyles of the superrich. But this story is filled with mistaken identity, a gaggle of intoxicated groomsmen, five lovably hilarious sisters, and slapstick humor that leans more toward the film Clue. Readers will die for the delightfully absurd hijinks in this dark comedy.”—Kirkus Reviews

“Wrap a romcom with a crime novel, sprinkle in
Weekend At Bernie’s, and you get this deliciously fun, big-hearted book…. If you love romcoms (this is PERFECT for adaptation) do not miss this 2021 gem of a release.”—BookRiot

Dial A for Aunties is a hilariously quirky novel that is equal parts murder mystery, rom-com, and a celebration of mothers and daughters as well as a deep dive into Chinese-Indonesian culture.”—Library Journal

“The best parts are Sutanto's portrayal of the bantering, interfering aunties (" 'How could you set Meddy up with such a douchebag?' Fourth Aunt snaps at Ma"), who excel at wreaking havoc. There's plenty of light entertainment here..."—
Publishers Weekly

“Murder is never funny, except when it is. In Sutanto’s rollicking debut, which she describes in a “Dear reader” foreword as “a love letter to my family—a ridiculously large bunch with a long history of immigration,” a fatal accident begets family reconciliation, true love at second sight, and happy beginnings all around.”—
Booklist

“A tightly-plotted, highly comic romp,
Dial A for Aunties keeps you guessing till the very last twist. A+!”—Lauren Ho, author of Last Tang Standing

“This laugh-out-loud tale is part crime novel, part romantic comedy, part immigration story, and full of heart.”—BookBub

"
Dial A for Aunties has redefined what 'page-turner' means to me...If you're in the mood for laugh-out-loud humor, unprecedented mayhem (involving meddlesome family members and over-the-top drama), and delightful twists and turns at every corner, I highly recommend Dial A for Aunties."—Buzzfeed

“A tantalizing blend of romantic mishaps, quirky relatives, and a behind-the-scenes look at the wedding industry,
Dial A for Aunties is proof of a promising new writer.”—Mystery Scene Magazine

"A delicious and devourable read."—E! Online

"Dial A for Aunties is a warm, hilarious book that deftly straddles genres to tell a story of romance, murder, and the joys of having a family full of strong women."—PopSugar

"Meddy Chan didn't mean to kill her terrible blind date. And she definitely didn't mean for the body to end up at the island resort where she and her aunties are working as planners for a billionaire's wedding...the same resort her college boyfriend apparently owns. To say that hilarious hijinks ensue would be an understatement."—
Good Housekeeping

"You know when you just want to read a hilarious, murder mystery, romcom? Well, here it is! Sutanto is serving wedding weirdness, ex exigence and Auntie antics for the win. "—Ms. Magazine

"A quirky novel that’s as fun as a rom-com and as nail-biting as a murder mystery."—The Tempest

"If you’re looking for something uplifting with dark humor, spontaneity, and a bit of romance sprinkled in, this may be a good choice for your next read.”—The Young Folks

"Genuinely hilarious, romantic and sweet,
Dial A for Aunties is brilliantly crafted and compulsively fun to read."—BookReporter.com

Hilarious and Nonstop Fun!
Ladies and gents, I have just read one of my top 5 FAVORITE books of 2021! Dial A for Aunties is the type of book you cannot put down and simply wouldn’t unless you had to! I read it in under 24 hours and only stopped because I needed to sleep 😂. It’s a hilarious novel, one that depicts a 20 something year old who finds herself in a tricky situation when a man she went on a date with gets fresh with her and then dies! Sounds morbid but I promise you it’s not! This is one funny novel and shows just how far family will go in order to protect the ones they love. Trust me, you don’t want to miss this one! Aside from the fact that I found this one to be an absolute riot, I also loved how the author used this tale to describe Chinese and Indonesian culture. What an absolute delight! I haven’t read many books like this and now want to read them all (especially is Sutanto writes them!). I felt immersed in the culture and wanted to be a part of it right alongside these loveable characters. If you’re in the mood for a book with a little bit of mystery, romance, and mayhem that will give you all the belly laughs then I highly recommend picking this one up! I am highly anticipating the next one and hope the author writes this as a LONG series. I can’t get enough! 𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗙𝗘𝗖𝗧 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗙𝗔𝗡𝗦 𝗢𝗙: • Romantic mysteries and Humor • Books with diverse characters • Authors like Stephanie Plum, Sara Desai, and Lyssa Kay Adams 𝗠𝗬 𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 𝗛𝗘𝗔𝗧: 🔥 None. Just a little kissing.

This is the first book I have read by this author, but definitely, not the last.

Meddelin "Meddy" Chan, a photographer who works for the family's wedding business, accidentally kills her blind date.  Unfortunately, the body ends up being transported in a cake cooler to the lavish wedding that they are catering. Her mother and aunts, known for their overbearing nature, step in to help dispose of the body. To make matters worse, Meddy runs into Nathan, her ex-boyfriend from college, who just happens to manage the hotel that is hosting the wedding.

This was such a fun read!  I laughed so hard at Meddy's mother and aunties outrageous behavior!

For example, after Meddy's mom calls the aunties to come over to help out with the dead body thus, she and Meddy have to quickly cut up mangos, dragon fruit, and pear because it is rude not to offer any food to your guests. Moreover, Meddy's mother and aunties have differing interpretations of emojis. She sends a text to Auntie asking if "everything is ok?" Auntie replys with a thumbs-up, angry face, and shirt emojis.

This is a fun summer read!  I am looking forward to reading more books in the "Aunties" series!

While I did not love it (more on why in a moment), I found more than one reason to like it a lot. Firstly, I so dig the Asian community represented in books-their closeness, their undying love for one another, and their absolute comedic genius is worth the price of admission. It’s why I love Vivien Chien’s books so much. I found the Aunties to be no different, whether it’s arguing amongst themselves about the most trivial things during the most stressful moments (like trying to hide a dead body) or absolutely butchering the English language, they kept me in stitches (Ma included in this bunch 🙂). I also like Nathan and Meddy as a couple. They are perfect together and good for each other.

So what didn’t I love? Well, let’s start with the bad language. Other reviewers have mentioned this, so I won’t dwell too long on it, except to say that reading language like that hurts my ears as much as hearing it does. It’s also totally unnecessary IMO. Lastly, I will repeat what a female news person I admire says-resorting to using language like that while writing or speaking is lazy.

I also did not care for the way the first 5 or 6 chapters are laid out. It’s confusing to switch back and forth between the past (Meddy and Nathan in college), and present day especially when it could have been covered in one chapter (or less 🙄). This actually leads to my last reason for not loving it. It was WAY too long and as a result ended up being tied up in a nice, neat little package that was too convenient and quite unbelievable. If it had been shorter, it perhaps could have been done a little better with lots less “everyone ends up happy” nonsense.

I have the next book in the series, but will probably put that aside for now and come back to it at some other time. I will read it, though, because I love those Aunties 😂.

Meddy is being the good filial daughter. She’s still living with her mom and spends time with her Aunties and is the photographer in the family wedding business. She doesn’t really date because she is still hung up on her college boyfriend Nathan. When her mom catfishes some guy online, she feels like she has to go on the date. Unfortunately, he’s a total creep and she accidentally murders him.
This one was a caper with some rom com mixed in. It was fun although there were a few times that I wondered if Meddy was completely incapable of making a smart choice. I realize that is necessary for the plot to move forward but at points I wanted to shake her.
Still, it was a fun read and I’ll probably read the others in the series. Because a girl should be so lucky to have a bunch of meddling Aunties in her life.

Well, lets talk about fun books! Cause Dial A for Aunties was exactly that. Pure fun! It was totally over the top and unrealistic but easy, laughable and funny. A bit like Crazy Rich Asians series which I absolutely adored!

I know these "stereotype" books can be tricky cause they can easily cross the line and be considered as offensive, but I think Sutanto managed to concentrate on the fun side of all of it. A big fancy wedding, a body to hide, an old flame and a whole bunch of family members who think they know best... can the situation be more messed up for our m/c? And I mean, meddling family members and parental guilt is something I think definitely a lot of us can relate to. Trust me, Croatian moms kick ass in the guilt part. I even think its incorporated in their DNA 😂.

If you are looking for something breezy to get your mind off these hard times, my vote definitely goes out to this one. I cant wait to get to the sequel soon!
