my dog really hates the typical shoulder Sherpa style bags for traveling. I don’t know why, I have 2 sherpas in small and medium with plenty of mesh but he just is miserable and trying to get out constantly. I bought a used backpack on FB marketplace for $15 and lo and behold he was thrilled! It has lots and lots of mesh, side entry doors, pockets, and I guess he gets to be in the catbird seat with lots of space and so he’s very happy! But, it’s way too big for the plane. :-( So I looked everywhere for a smaller one and found this one that actually fits in all airlines. It is the 9” deep factor here - the bag has to lie on it’s back and slide under the seat in front. Conceivably the bag could be 10” but really no more than that.
I *really* wanted to find one around $50 but simply could not so I felt I had to pay this price so he would be able to travel with me without crying throughout the trip on the plane to get out of it. So far he likes going into it so this is a major start. I put him down in position he’ll be on in a plane and treat him - I’ve done that a million times with the Sherpa and I can’t make a dent in his rejection of those bags.
Update: worked perfectly on our first trip!! He didn’t cry and he was still really happy when I carried him on my back! So, I guess the $80+ price tag is the price I pay for a happy chihuahua!
It’s also really well made- I don’t see this ripping or falling apart any time soon! So you need a bag you can reliably fit under a seat & you need something seriously sturdy - this is your bag!

Airline Requirements
Always keep in mind each airline sets their own specific requirements, and they can even vary from their domestic, international, and shuttle services so it is always advised to check with your airline of choice. All will require your pet to be comfortable in the carrier, and to remain under the seat in front of you.
Pet Safety & Comfort
The pet tote you choose should have locking zippers and very strong mesh. They should have a leash ring to attach a leach and to insure your pet can be secured while stressed during travels. They should have well designed and secure adjustable carrying straps, in the case of a backpack. They should have a comfortable bedding pad. All of Mr. Peanut's tote designs include all of these and more. Also add a thick and plush faux fleece pad for your pet's comfort.
Under Seat Compatibility
In short, all of airline capable carriers are regularly used on domestic and international airlines, and all are compliant with under seat requirements, but the reality is that there can always be an aircraft or route of a particular nature that uses a smaller aircraft without under seat clearance, but I have rarely come across that with reviews and feedback from literally thousands of users over many years.
Carrier Structure
Soft Sided Pet Carriers by definition are frameless and are mostly only supported by thin steel wire running along the edges and sides of the tote. All of the totes are designed with a very strong waterproof nylon material that is also used in the manufacture of military grade parachutes. The materials used help to avoid the sagging, wrinkled look and give the totes additional structure.

Almost perfect
My dog is slim, just under 20lbs and has long legs. She is just on the borderline of being allowed to ride in the cabin. I was looking for something that would fit on top of a carry-on spinner suitcase with minimal-no overhang and a well-fitting trolley sleeve. This one fits perfectly, but I definitely feel I should keep my hand on the handle while my dog is in the carrier on top of a suitcase. It feels like it can easily tip over depending on which way my dog is leaning. That's not the carrier's fault. It's just physics. The fuzzy interior is nice and cozy. My dog seems comfortable in this carrier. I briefly put it on my back and my partner confirmed that she looks most comfortable inside this one (I also purchased the Monterrey but returned it). I leave the top open when rolling through the airport so she can see where we are going. She can easily and comfortably sit up and look out. She gets a ton of attention as we roll around. When we get on the plane and I slide her under the seat, it's a little short but she's fine. There is plenty of space to lay down and spread out. I usually open the end and put my foot in so she can have something familiar to snuggle and not feel so alone. I originally thought the built-in laptop sleeve was a bit silly, like an added amenity for the sake of jacking up the price a bit. But then I remembered that the dog carrier is my personal carry-on item and it made perfect sense to have easy access to a laptop for going through security at the airport. I've recommended this carrier to others with similar sized dogs. For tiny dogs, you have more versatility, but with larger small dogs, a lot of carriers just won't do. You need something both can be upright and tall enough for a dog to sit up and still lay horizontal to fit under an airline seat. My only wish is for this to have a shoulder or crossbody strap. I'm not really a backpack person. This was purchased specifically for strapping on top of a suitcase and used in an airplane. I have different carriers for other situations. The size and shape of this is perfect for my dog and I, being a backpack is just happenstance. The straps don't really bother me, but I don't think I'll ever wear this on my back.

Post-Flight Update: the carrier was absolutely perfect. Kitty felt very safe and practically jumped back inside once we got through security. It fit very well under the seat (United); even after changing planes to a much smaller commuter jet, it fit well-enough to pass the flight attendant's muster.
Suggestion for improved product design: instead of velcro to secure the fleece lining, switch to snaps. Washing in washing machine caused it to stick to itself (and other items) from the velcro strips. Releasing the velcro significantly weakens the fabric. Best to wash these by hand separately and air dry.

I purchased this in anticipation of flying across country with my 8-lb cat. The soft-sided carriers are a way better choice in general for this purpose. Being able to “wear” my cat on my back is such a game changer because it allows me to be hands free to lug my suitcase, grab a water, keys, etc. While
my flight is a week away, I couldn’t wait to write this review! We’ve been testing it out to get her used to it, strapping her into the car using the front buckles - keeps her super safe and I don’t have to hang on the carrier when I go around a corner. I’ve taken her to the office. She voluntarily goes into it for naps. She loves it!! Great product and super light. Practical design that also looks really good.

Great product and seems sturdy
This is really well built and I am sure it will last for many years. Only thing I would change is the front clip connecting the shoulder straps is too low and might work for men but for women it is in a very uncomfortable spot on the breasts. If you lengthen the straps to the neck it sits well but then the carrier is so low on your back.LGreat product and seems sturdy

I had to return mine as it was a bit bigger than the airline allows for my flights by an inch on the description which I thought would be fine but when it arrived and I measure it with the handle and bottom plastic pieces it ended up being two inches more and I can’t risk it. If it weren’t for the front strap issue I would have kept it for hikes etc as my 10 lbs Pomeranian seems super comfortable in it

Sturdy, comfortable for cat

The outer material is sturdy and holds well. I like that the mesh is doubled. My cat tried to scratch but the mesh still looks brand new.
When my kitten (5 pounds then) first walked into the backpack she purred a lot! She really likes it!! Now she is 9 pounds and it fits her well. She has room to turn around.
It is heavy when I carry her. My back hurts. But when I put in the front straps the weight is distributed to my body.
Suggestions:
When I put her in the car, I put the safety belt on only when the backpack sits up. There are no hooks to put the safety belt when I lay down the back pack. My cat likes to lie down.
The depth is narrow. When I put items on the back pocket (laptop) the space for the cat narrows.
Please provide replacements for the fleece. I can see my cat completely destroying it in the future.
