Great for cutting crown moulding

Great for cutting crown moulding
This really helps when it comes to cutting crown moulding. I kind of wish there were instructions for cutting vaulted ceilings but I eventually figured out how to do it. On a few cuts I held the tool too close to the saw and ended up cutting it so be careful about maintaining distance away from the saw blade. If you're a novice with crown moulding like me, I think you'll enjoy using it. With the spring angle taken care of, it makes cutting crown like cutting base moulding. The included and handy wall angle / spring angle finder completes the package. I found that even though the little cheat sheet that you adhere to the tool helps you toget started, it doesn't matter what side of the miter saw you place the tool. I found that placing the tool based solely on the cheat sheet can be confusing and cause you to make the wrong, opposite cut. DOH!For horizontal angles (standard flat ceiling) you're supposed to set the angle on the Crown-Pro to the moulding's spring angle and lay the moulding up side down on the tool and make your cut. To do vaulted ceilings (vertical angles) set the tool's angle to 90 minus the spring angle and lay the crown moulding right side up to make your cut. When you transition from the horizontal run to vertical vault, you have to make a small triangular transition piece. There are a couple websites that explain the creation of that piece but know that the vertical transition side of the piece is done using the 90 minus spring angle, right-side up procedure.

yes, I know how to use my compound miter saw to cut crown and its a pain....... BUT this does the job so much easier! you find the initial angle of the crown and then just have to measure, flip the piece upside down and cut on a 45 left or right - every cut I did fit perfectly; I probably saved the cost in mistakes (crown is not cheap!) this is worth it in time and saved materials. Im just a homeowner who does the occasional project but having good tools does make up for my lack of ability in this case! get it, it really does help the job go faster. good luck!

I am installing crown molding for the first time. I started with just holding the molding against the guard on my mitre saw but things did move a bit from time to time. The Kreg jig does make things easier in my opinion. I with the extension arms on my Ryobi 10" saw where a little longer so that it was easier to hold the jig in place but that's not the fault of the jig. One the Kreg tool has been adjusted for the spring on your crown it super easy to use and does hold the molding much better than just your saw alone.

First I bought another brand similar tool, and that was a bust.

Then I bought the Kreg, much better! Well thought out, clever tool that is actually usable for miter-cutting crown molding. The included angle finder is not very useful ( flimsy and inaccurately marked) not sure why they bother. But the Kreg tool itself is cleverly designed and well made. I like it that it slopes away from the fence of the saw. I also like that it has a stop at the bottom, where you can rest your crown molding, so it is held at the angle you set.

I bought this in the hopes that it would do at least some of what it promised. I can now say that it did its job WAY above my expectations. All you have to do is watch the short video on Kreg's web site and you are fully schooled. If you have a miter saw and can measure, this works. We tried it out on one room and my wife wants crown molding in every room now. Beautiful crown molding. Adds value to your home in resale.

We had estimates at over $2000 plus materials to install crown molding. This device saved me $1970. We had that crown molding cut and hung in 5 hours for one room. A little caulking to fill the uneven wall gaps and painted them. LOOKS GREAT!

My dad and I are both experienced DIYers and he used to work in construction but oh dear LAWD for some reason crown molding scrambles both of our brains every time. We spent six hours working one day a few weeks ago and got exactly two pieces of crown up because we kept accidentally cutting pieces at the wrong angle, etc. Never again!!!! I decided to look for a tool to take the confusion out of it and ordered this Kreg jig. My father is not an effusive man but he GUSHES with love for this tool. We did the crown molding for the entire upstairs in the same amount of time it took us to previously only get two pieces up. A+++, my favorite purchase, if you’re renovating you NEED this. Just read the directions and you’ll be fine! I found it helpful to sketch a quick diagram of each room and mark each corner “LI” or “RI” for left internal or right internal so when you’re standing at the saw with the jig you don’t have to remember which is which. Good luck!!

Pros: meant for use by DIY’ers, not professionals. inexpensive, lightweight, adjustable spring rate. Stickers on front make cutting a no-brainer. Does help improve accuracy of crown molding cuts and makes crown molding projects easier.

Cons: Text & numbers on the plastic is very difficult to read. Flimsy plastic. Holds crown about an inch or two off the base of the miter saw. This leads to the cut-off pieces falling, bouncing around and into the spinning saw blade. On my very first cut, had a piece shoot-out so fast it almost broke a window. After having this happen multiple times in a single day, I sopped using it out of fear.

I’m genuinely surprised Kreg put their name on this and still sells it. They usually have such great quality products - which this is not. I would not recommend this product. Check out the Rockler Crown Cut instead.

It did work for me on my 10" Mitre Saw, but it is large. Also, be very careful when setting the angle on the back of the tool. I had used it one day the put the tool aside. The next day I did not double check the angle I had set and it had moved. Be sure you tighten the thumb screw on the back well and double check each time you use it that it has not moved.

The crown molding I used was 2 7/8" wide and that would be the maximum size on a 10" mitre saw as it just fit between the tool and the blade, anything wider would not fit under the blade.

I was able to cut perfect corners once properly setup.
